The Hamas War > UN reduces estimates of Gaza deaths of women and children by half

We've blamed Hamas for being prolific liars with the example of them accusing the IDF of blowing up a hospital and killing 500 people, when the truth was revealed it was Hamas partners, PIJ, who dropped an errant missile in the parking lot of the hospital and killed perhaps 50 people. The IDF claim Hamas and PIJ have misfired 450 rockets which landed in Gaza. The number of deaths from this friendly fire is unknown, but is, no doubt, attributed to the IDF. The hundreds of people who have died from natural causes are also included in Hamas' numbers. Hamas considers itself a winner when the west's godless media believe their lies.

UN Halves Its Estimates of Women and

Children Killed in Gaza

Stung by the findings of statisticians who concluded that the figures Hamas has provided on casualties in Gaza could not possibly be true, the United Nations has now halved the estimated number of women and children killed in Gaza, according to UN data published on May 6 and 8. More on this astonishing development can be found here: “UN seemingly halves estimate of Gazan women, children killed,” by Yuval Barnea, Jerusalem Post, May 11, 2024:

The UN published the [latest] number of fatalities reported by the Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health or the Government Media Office in Gaza and Israeli authorities.

The UN provided a disclaimer below the data: “The UN has so far not been able to produce independent, comprehensive, and verified casualty figures.”

On May 6, the UN published data showing that 34,735 people had reportedly been killed in Gaza, including over 9,500 women and over 14,500 children.

On May 8, the UN published data showing 34,844 people had reportedly been killed, including 4,959 women and 7,797 children.

The new figures showed the number of identified deaths as of April 30, which total 24,686 people; the new data also specified that 10,006 men had been killed and 1,924 elderly.

Note as well that before the war, about 800 Gazans died each month from diseases, old age, and accidents, so in seven months of war, 5,600 of the deaths Hamas reported in Gaza had nothing to do with the war.

The UN also highlighted that the plurality of identified fatalities were men (40%), while children were (32%) and women (20%)….

Why on May 8 did the UN publish statistics that halved the numbers of women and children killed that the UN had put out just two days earlier? Apparently, the studies by outside statisticians, including Professor Abraham Wyner, showing the falsity of the Hamas data, had been getting considerable attention, and the UN could no longer ignore their conclusions. The UN has thus quietly revised its figures downward for women and children dead in Gaza, from 9,500 women and over 14,500 children on May 6 to — as of May 8, just two days later — 4,959 women and 7,797 children.

And if we were to subtract from those revised figures the number of women and children who died in Gaza from natural causes and accidents — amounting to several thousand over the seven months of the war — that would bring the numbers of women and children killed as a result of the war lower still, by about 3000.

On May 9 — after the UN put out its revised figures on women and children killed — I heard Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) on CNN refer to “34,00 women and children” killed in Gaza. Apparently Sanders believes that all the fatalities in Gaza were women and children. And he certainly has not been kept informed by his staff of the latest UN figures, released on May 8. Similarly, on May 10 I heard Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon) on CNN refer to “24,000 women and children” killed in Gaza. He, too, appears not to have been kept abreast of the latest UN figures, which lower those figures by roughly half, to a total of 12,756. If we were to subtract from that number the estimated deaths from natural causes (disease, congenital illnesses) and accidents, over seven months, of women and children in Gaza, that figure would be lower still, to below 10,000. That is the figure that we need to keep reminding the world is the true figure; that not even the UN any longer accepts the Hamas figures that so misled Senators Sanders and Merkley.
