Car rams pedestrians in Mannheim, Germany, killing at least one
March 3 (UPI) -- A car rammed into a group of pedestrians in Mannheim, Germany, killing at least one person and injuring several others, police said.
Mannheim Police said in a statement published online that the car struck pedestrians in the city center shortly after noon Monday, killing one person.
Police said "several" other pedestrians were injured, but investigators were still working to determine the exact number and severity of injuries.
A suspect has been identified and arrested, the statement said.
The city's official social media portals warned residents to steer clear of the city center for the time being, due to "a large-scale police operation" taking place.
"A large-scale police operation" would indicate that this was not an accident but likely another terrorist event.
The incident is the latest in a string of vehicle attacks in Germany in recent months.
A Feb. 13 incident in Munich saw a mother and her child killed and dozens of people injured when a Mini Cooper drove into a crowd of protesters. The suspect in that case was a 24-year-old man from Afghanistan.
Another vehicle attack in December killed six people at a Christmas market in Magdeburg. A 50-year-old Saudi citizen who has been living in Germany for at least a decade was arrested.
Sweden: Four Muslim migrants kidnap 68-year-old man, murder him after his family fails to pay ransom
“As for the captives, the amir [ruler] has the choice of taking the most beneficial action of four possibilities: the first to put them to death by cutting their necks; the second, to enslave them and apply the laws of slavery regarding their sale and manumission; the third, to ransom them in exchange for goods or prisoners; and fourth, to show favor to them and pardon them. Allah, may he be exalted, says, ‘When you encounter those [infidels] who deny [the Truth=Islam] then strike [their] necks’ (Qur’an sura 47, verse 4)” — Al-Mawardi, al-Ahkam as-Sultaniyyah (The Laws of Islamic Governance).
Four Afghans jailed in Sweden for kidnap and murder of 68-year-old man after his family failed to pay ransom
by Thomas Brooke, Remix News, February 27, 2025:
Four Afghan nationals living in Sweden have been convicted for the gruesome murder of a 68-year-old man they kidnapped in southern Stockholm and beat to death after his family failed to pay a ransom demand.
The elderly man was accosted near his home in Skärholmen and subsequently reported missing by his family on April 29 last year.
A Swedish court heard how the victim was beaten, tied up, and placed in the trunk of a vehicle where he succumbed to severe bleeding and possible brain damage.
Following the kidnap, the Afghan gang contacted his family by text, demanding a ransom of $45,000 (€42,000) for his release. In the message published by the Samnytt news site, the kidnappers told the family a time and a place to hand over the funds, warning them that if they were late or involved the authorities, they could “collect the pieces” of their loved one.
It is unclear when the victim died during the kidnapping process, but his body was found at the side of the E4 highway near Jönköping two days after his family reported him missing.
Mohamed Musavi, a 34-year-old Afghan citizen, was sentenced to life in prison for murder and human trafficking. The court ruled that he would be expelled from Sweden after serving his sentence, with no possibility of return….
The costs of the convicted individuals’ legal defense amounted to over SEK 2 million (€180,000) — a burden that will be covered by Swedish taxpayers.
The condemned
Samnytt can tell you more about the four convicted perpetrators from Afghanistan.

In the legal aftermath, 34-year-old Afghan citizen Mohamed Musavi has been sentenced to life in prison for murder and kidnapping. After serving his sentence, he will be deported back to his home country without any further time limit.

20-year-old Afghan citizen Musawer Abdul Ahmadi is sentenced to five years and ten months in prison for kidnapping. He will also be deported to his home country without a time limit after serving his sentence. He has previously been convicted of rape, among other things, but the punishment was limited to a few months of youth supervision.

18-year-old Afghan citizen Ilias Farzad is sentenced to one year and eight months in closed juvenile detention for kidnapping. The reason he is given such a lenient sentence is that he was only 17 at the time of the crime and is therefore entitled to a significant reduction in sentence. This is also the reason why he will not be deported.

25-year-old Afghan citizen Nazanin Hassan Ali is sentenced to a suspended sentence and a few weeks of community service for attempted aggravated protection of a criminal. She has previously been convicted of theft. The prosecutor had requested deportation to her home country after serving her sentence, but the court believes that despite her recidivism, she should be allowed to remain in Sweden.

Fled abroad
Several of the suspects and now convicted fled abroad after the murder. One of them was the murderer Mohamed Musavi.
After a European arrest warrant was issued, he was arrested by the police in Rome. From there, he was extradited to Sweden to face trial.
