Germany witnesses significant drop in asylum applications – Spiegel

Germany, which has been the primary destination for asylum seekers in the EU, has seen a major decline in new applications, Der Spiegel reported on Monday, citing a recent study by the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA). The reduction in applications comes as German authorities have introduced stricter border checks amid growing anti-immigrant sentiment in the country.
According to the report, the overall number of asylum requests in Germany in 2024 dropped by nearly 30% compared to the previous year, with EUAA figures showing a decrease of around 92,000 applications. Nevertheless, Germany has remained the number one destination for first-time applicants, the EUAA has found.
Meanwhile, across the EU, Norway, and Switzerland, asylum claims have also fallen, with a total of 1.01 million applications recorded in 2024, down 100,000 from the previous year. At the same time, application rates in countries like Spain, France and Italy have remained largely the same.
The report stated that most applicants last year came from Syria, followed by Afghanistan, Venezuela and Türkiye.
The sharp decline in applications comes as Berlin has introduced tougher entry policies in response to growing public concerns. In 2024, Germany expanded border controls with its EU neighbors, citing an increase in irregular migration. The measures, which included stricter checks along the country’s borders with Poland, Austria, and the Czech Republic, were extended for an additional six months in January ahead of federal elections.
Anti-immigration sentiments in Germany have also continued to grow in light of violent incidents being perpetrated by foreign nationals. Last month, an Afghan asylum seeker drove a car into a labour union rally in Munich, killing at least two people, including a two-year-old child, and injuring at least 39 more.
A similar incident took place in December, when a 50-year-old Saudi psychiatrist drove his car into a crowd at the Magdeburg Christmas market, resulting in five fatalities, including a child, and injuring over 200 people.
These and other high-profile attacks have intensified political calls in recent years for stronger restrictions on immigration, which became one of the key issues in the recent parliamentary elections. Last week, the ruling Social Democratic Party lost ground to the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD), which had campaigned on stricter policies.

Germany: Munich cancels traditional carnival celebration for fear of jihad attacks
Wir schaffen das! Germany’s surrender and Islamization proceeds apace, and in the recent elections, the Germans successfully defeated a party that promised to do something about it. And so now the German culture and nation will go quietly into the night, among the first of the European states to commit suicide. Sweden, Britain and France, however, will not be far behind.
Munich cancels carnivals after deadly alleged terrorist car-ram attack
by Chris Gattringer, Brussels Signal, February 19, 2025:
Munich authorities have cancelled upcoming traditional carnival celebrations following a suspected terror attack on a demonstration in the city that left two dead and 39 injured.
Officials in the Bavarian capital announced on February 19 that both the “Nonsense Thursday” event on February 27 and the Shrove Tuesday celebration on March 4 will not take place this year. A third carnival event in the city’s central pedestrian zone has also been cancelled.
The decision came after an Afghan immigrant allegedly crashed his car into a trade union demonstration in Munich’s centre on February 13.
A 37-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter died in the incident, with at least 37 people injured, many of them seriously.
Investigators said the act may have been motivated by Islamist ideology, with the driver allegedly having radicalised himself on TikTok and pledged allegiance to Islamic State….
Julian Reichelt, a right-wing publicist, commented on the Munich decision by ironically quoting a standard phrase of German politicians often heard in the past few years: “We will not let Islamists change our way of life.”
Yeah, looks as if that ship has sailed.
And Germany just voted to make sure it continues to get worse for another 4 years. What will Germany be like in 2029? Will there be any churches still standing?
Spain: Islamic State threatens to attack cathedrals as part of its ‘Tear Down the Cross’ campaign
The cross is an affront to Islam. The Qur’an claims that Jesus was not crucified, although in somewhat equivocal language for what is supposed to be the perfect word of an omniscient god:
“And their saying, ‘Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.’ And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but another was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.” (4:157)
And a hadith depicts Muhammad saying: “The Hour will not be established until the son of Mary (i.e. Jesus) descends amongst you as a just ruler, he will break the cross, kill the pigs, and abolish the Jizya tax. Money will be in abundance so that nobody will accept it (as charitable gifts).” (Bukhari 46.37.2476)
This means he will destroy Christianity (break the cross), force the Christians to obey the Islamic food laws (kill the pigs) and end the second-class dhimmi status (abolish the jizya) that Islamic law specifies for Christians, such that they will either have to convert to Islam or be killed.
Dutch police arrest Syrian on terrorism charges
A 24-year-old man from Venray was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of terrorism-related offenses, including making threats involving a terrorist act and distributing incendiary materials.
The suspect came to the attention of Dutch authorities earlier this month after Belgian police raised concerns about several social media accounts. The Belgian authorities, alarmed by a TikTok video, suspected that the user behind the accounts might be planning a violent attack. The man had thousands of followers on the platform.
Dutch police identified the suspect as a Syrian asylum seeker who had been living in the Netherlands since 2018.
Further investigation into the social media accounts revealed a video in which the suspect sang in praise of martyrdom and promoted its glorification. He also shared an image from an ISIS-affiliated news outlet that called for attacks.
During the arrest, authorities confiscated two mobile phones and a laptop. The suspect appeared before a magistrate in Rotterdam on Friday and was remanded in custody for two weeks.
