It must be tough being Josh Earnest. The President forbids you to use the words Islam or Muslim in relation to any terrorism event, and while you know how ridiculous that is, you have to defend it in front of the world press. Good luck with that Josh.
Pressed on why the Obama administration doesn’t describe the terror attacks in France as “radical Islam” like the French government does, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Tuesday that it’s about “accuracy.”
NPR reporter Mara Liasson said the French “are calling the ideology, the warped view, by a name,” and pointed out that Earnest wouldn’t do that. “Is there a reason for that?”
“The first is accuracy,” Earnest said. “These are individuals who carried out an act of terrorism and they later tried to justify an act of terrorism by invoking Islam and their own deviant view. The second is, this was an act that was condemned by Muslim leaders. We have not chosen to use that label because it does not accurately describe what happened.”
He added, “We are trying to be as specific and accurate as possible". Pfft!
Earlier in the exchange, Earnest had said: “I think the fact that the majority of victims of terrorist attacks carried out by Al Qaeda and adherents and their particular brand of violence, the majority of them are Muslims, I think is a pretty clear indication that this is not a matter of the world being at war with Islam. The world and the United States, as we’ve discussed before, are in the context of ISIL, is at war with these individuals, violent extremists, who carry out these acts of terror and try to justify it by invoking this religion.”
Liaison said, “France, your ally in this effort, has put a name on this ideology, which he calls radical Islam. You have bent over backwards to not ever say that. There must be a reason.”
“The reason is twofold. I certainly wouldn’t want to be in a position where I’m repeating the justification that they have cited that I think is completely illegitimate. They have invoked Islam to try to justify their attacks,” Earnest said.
Liaison responded, “So to call it radical Islam, you feel, would be playing into their hands?”
Earnest said, “Well, I think what I’m trying to do is describe to you what happened. These are individuals who are terrorists.” No, I think what you are trying to do is to convince everybody that the emperor really does have clothes.
President Obama's defense of Islam is rapidly approaching the fanatical. He's left his press secretary on soft ice with dull skates - he's not able to go anywhere and the ice below his feet is melting.
To blame the Paris attacks on 'individuals' is to deny that it was a coordinated assault involving several people including Al Qaeda in Yemen. To suggest that they later tried to blame it on Islam is astonishing since they were all dead or missing.
Their own deviant view of Islam is actually shared by hundreds of millions of other 'deviants'. Is that an oxymoron - can you be deviant when hundreds of millions of people agree with you? I don't think so!
The act was condemned by Muslim Leaders - was that unanimous? I don't think so. I don't think it was even close.
The majority of victims are Muslims - who cares? Do you think that helps the hundreds of Yazidi girls being frequently raped by IS? Will it help the several hundred girls kidnapped and made into sexual slaves by Boko Haram? Will it comfort the 10 year old girls who walk in to a market place in Maiduguri and blow themselves up? Or the thousands of Malalas who are denied education by fundamentalist Islam?
That Muslims kill more Muslims than any other ethnic or religious group is: 1) a matter of geography, and 2) a matter of character inherited from their father Ishmael - Genesis 16:11,12 - an angel of the Lord is talking to Hagar:
"Behold, you are with child,
And you will bear a son;
And you shall call his name Ishmael,
Because the LORD has given heed to your affliction.
"He will be a wild donkey of a man,
His hand will be against everyone,
And everyone's hand will be against him;
And he will live to the east of all his brothers."
