Military Madness > Ukraine launches 158 drones at Russia, almost all, if not all, shot down

Russia claims 158 Ukrainian drones downed

as energy plants targeted

By Allen Cone

Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Russian military said Sunday 158 Ukrainian drones targeted Russia, including two energy facilities, and they were all intercepted and destroyed.

Ukraine has not commented on the claims.

Kiev Independent reported targeted areas also were Tver, Voronezh, Tula, Kaluga, Bryansk, Belgorod, Lipetsk and Kursk, according to local officials.

Fires were reported at the Moscow oil refinery and the Konakovo power station in the Tver region, one of the largest energy producers in central Russia. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said at least nine drones were downed in the capital region, according to TASS.

"Two more enemy UAVs attacking Moscow have been downed in the Ramensky Municipal District," Sobyanin said.

A fire broke out at an oil refinery in Moscow in a "separate technical room, Sobyanin said.

The refinery is owned by Gazprom Neft, the oil division of Russian gas giant Gazprom.

About 75 miles from the Russian capital, in the Tver region, blasts were heard close to the Konakovo Power Station.

The region's governor, Igor Rudenya, said a fire caused by an attack in Konakovsky district had been contained, without providing details.

BBC Verify has checked videos posted on social media, which show explosions at all locations.

So, it is likely that a few of the drones hit their targets, perhaps 3 or 4 out of 158. When you consider the minimum cost of a military drone is about 3/4 of a million dollars, then you have to wonder if 3 or 4 hits is worth spending about $120 million dollars.

It is, of course, to the makers of the drones and to the makers of the missile defence systems that shoot them down, or try to. I don't know how many more millions that would account for but we are getting close to a quarter of a billion dollars for  day's work and a few fires. What kind of madness is that?

Ukraine reportedly controls over 500 square miles and 100 settlements, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said Tuesday.
