I'm not a big fan of the Farmer's Almanac having spent most of my working life with Environment Canada's Weather Service, but the winter forecast is interesting enough and probably on the right track in predicting a very cold season with La Nina set to reset the global warming panic. Thought you should be warned.

We hate to harsh your summer buzz, but the Old Farmer’s Almanac just released their weather forecast for 2017, and things aren’t looking good. Extreme cold, higher than normal amounts of precipitation, and a general sense of misery is predicted for the entire county. OK, that last piece is just a guess on our part, but we’re feeling pretty confident about it.
Nearly every nook and cranny of the country is expected to be hit by old man winter’s fury, but as usual, British Columbia is getting off easier than the rest of us. They’ll still get a bit more precipitation, but since their temperatures aren’t expected to plummet like the rest of Canada (they might actually be warmer than last winter), it will come in the form of rain instead of snow. So basically, while most of us will be investing in military grade snowsuits, B.C. residents should be looking into wind-proof umbrellas.
Perhaps most foreboding of their entire report is that they’re predicting a ‘Snowmageddon’ of sorts, yet again. The east coast could be on the receiving end of at least 30 cm of snow between February 16 and 19. So, if you’re planning on booking a tropical escape, you might want to keep those dates in mind to avoid getting stranded at the airport.
Of course, we live in Canada, where winter is more of a way of life than a season, so surely it won’t be that bad, right? Well, many locations are expected to hit 40 below, which doesn’t even include the wind chill. So, yes. It will be that bad. And if you’re one of those people that dismisses long-range weather forecasts, have a look at how accurate the almanac has been in the past. We don’t know how they do it. It could be witchcraft, it could be science, but whatever it is, we’re believers and we’re already scared for what’s to come. This would be a reeeaaaalllly great time for Canada to finally adopt Turks and Caicos. Just sayin’.
