Have you ever studied the
contrast between the rich, young ruler and the thief
on the cross? The thief realized who Jesus is and humbly asked to be remembered
although he knew he didn’t deserve it. The rich, young ruler also realized who
Jesus is, but came to him confident that he had kept the Law and probably
expected to hear the Lord praise him. But the Lord pulled the rug out from
under his feet and sent him home in dismay. Peter said, “We have left all and
followed You.” And Jesus praised those who have done so. Luke 18:28-30. Do you have riches of some sort that you are not willing
to sacrifice?
