QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) A suicide bomber on a motorcycle Monday rammed a police truck in Pakistan’s restive southwest, killing 10 police officers and wounding 12 in one of the deadliest attacks on security forces in recent months, authorities said.

The newly formed Tehreek-e-Jihad militant group hours later in a statement claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place on a bridge in the Sibi district of Baluchistan province.

Small Baluchistan-based separatist groups and local militants have been blamed for previous such attacks.

Late on Monday night, the Islamic State group also claimed responsibility for the attack. It said in a statement released by the group’s Amaq news agency that IS militant Abdul Rahman al-Pakistani was driving a bomb-laden motorcycle that he ignited, killing or wounding 24 police.

Mahmood Notenzai, a local police chief, said the officers were on a routine patrol when the attack happened, initially killing nine. The casualties were taken to a nearby hospital, where one of the critically wounded policemen later died, he added. Sibi is about 150 kilometers (90 miles) east of Quetta, the provincial capital.

The force of the blast overturned the truck, which caused additional injuries, he said. Trucks often transport troops in Pakistan.

Notenzai said the officers who came under attack were deployed last week to Sibi, where an annual cultural festival was held amid tight security. An army helicopter was sent to evacuate the seriously wounded to a hospital in Quetta, where better health facilities are available.

Last year, a suicide bomber from the extremist Islamic State group targeted President Arif Alvi ’s security convoy when he attended the Sibi festival. Alvi was far away from the site of the bombing, which killed five troops. IS militants later claimed responsibility for that attack.

The festival has been celebrated for several centuries to mark the advent of summer.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the attack. In a statement, he expressed his condolences to the families of those killed and ordered health officials to provide the best medical care for the wounded policemen. He said the attack was part of nefarious enemy plans to destabilize Pakistan and vowed to defeat terrorism.

Can Pakistan be more unstable than it is?

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also condemned the attack and extended “heartfelt condolences” to the families of the victims and wished a prompt recovery to the injured, his spokesman said.

Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo, the top elected official in Baluchistan, also denounced the bombing.

“The terrorists who are carrying out such attacks are the enemy of Pakistan,” he said, adding that they will not shake the resolve of the country’s police.

Baluchistan has long struggled with a low-level insurgency by the Baluchistan Liberation Army and other small separatist groups demanding independence from the central government in Islamabad.

Authorities claim to have quelled the insurgency but violence has persisted. The province has also seen attacks by militants from both the Pakistani Taliban and the Islamic State group.

Marseille: Stéphane Ravier sent back to correctional on March 9

for discriminatory remarks

A new legal appointment awaits far-right senator Stéphane Ravier.

After his two appearances for having qualified Samia Ghali as "Point G. of Marseille", which had resulted in a conviction followed by an acquittal on appeal, a new legal appointment awaits the far-right senator Stéphane Ravier. On March 9, the former RN executive who passed through the Zemmour camp is indeed summoned before the Marseille criminal court. The trial was initially set for September 28 before being postponed.

In question, a tweet dated January 11, 2022, echoing a sordid news item, the murder of an 18-year-old young man in the Paris region by a 62-year-old Senegalese national. The next day, Stéphane Ravier hastened to publish the photo of the victim accompanied by a house comment: "Théo, 18, murdered yesterday by a Senegalese" #ClayeSouilly. Immigration is killing the youth of France."

Outraged by this "nauseous" position, the international league against racism and anti-Semitism (Licra) and the human rights league (LDH) immediately filed a complaint for "provocation to discrimination, hatred or violence". A procedure validated by the prosecution, which considered that this tweet contained "allegations or imputations undermining the honor or the consideration of a group of people, in this case migrants, because of their origin or their membership or their non-affiliation to an ethnic group, nation, race or religion".

By publishing this tweet, "the elected official is not content to react to a current event but wishes to underline the nationality of its author and to associate all people with an immigrant background", deplores Me Alain Lothe, who intends to become a civil party for the Maison des potes. "This practice of recovering certain dramas is not new for Stéphane Ravier", he recalls.

How does this qualify as an ethnic group, nation, race, or religion? All immigrants include a lot of different groups, religions, and nations. Someone is being exceptionally sensitive or is trying to hide the truth.

Recently, relatives of Marie Bélen, an anthropology student victim of a heinous crime in the Marseille metro, said they were "wounded, shocked, disgusted" by the recovery of the death of the young woman by the senator on his social media...

For his part, Stéphane Ravier, in bad shape politically since his departure at the wrong time at Reconquest, a formation swept away in the presidential and legislative elections by his former friends from the RN, assumes his words. He denounced a "crime of opinion".

Apology for terrorism in Tréport: a man sentenced

to two years in prison in Dieppe

Translated from “Apologie du terrorisme au Tréport : un homme condamné à deux ans de prison ferme à Dieppe,”
Paris-Normandie,
March 7, 2023

A 41-year-old man who brandished a hammer in front of a passer-by in Le Tréport on Thursday March 2, 2023, and then threatened three gendarmes with death by glorifying terrorism, was sentenced to two years in prison in Dieppe on Monday March 6, 2023. He was taken into custody.

Violence, insult, rebellion, threats, racial insults, glorifying terrorism…The file of a 41-year-old man sentenced on Monday March 6 in direct appearance before the criminal court in Dieppe is extensive.

Abdelkader, who was born in Feuquières-en-Vimeu and lives in Abbeville (Somme), terrorized a passer-by at the base of the Le Tréport funicular at around 6pm on Thursday March 2. “You swung a hammer above her head. You shouted out ‘Allah Akbar’ several times,” the judge recalled. “He’s either crazy or has been drinking,” concluded the pedestrian, and alerted the gendarmerie….

To determine whether the man’s condition is compatible with police custody, the gendarmes take him to a hospital. “At the Eu hospital centre, you make allusions to the attacks at the Stade de France, the Bataclan and Nice,” the judge continues. The man in his forties shouted to them, “You got a lot off. We will blow you up!” and promised to return with Al-Qaeda. He also threatened the families of the gendarmes. His blood alcohol level at that time was 0.65 mg/l breath (1.30 g per litre of blood)….

He tries to appease: “Even in prison, I never radicalized myself. It is not part of my purpose in life to kill someone with a knife. At the age of 41, I have never killed anyone.” His criminal record shows 25 convictions….

But the judges double the sentences demanded: Abdelkader El Mechbouh is sentenced to two years in prison without parole.

So, that's good news for someone who has another two years to live before this lunatic murders them.

This Thursday, March 2, a man committed damage to the Saint-Eustache church, located in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. He smashed the protective glass of the brocade of the celebratory altar in the choir of the monument, with a fire extinguisher. He is currently wanted, but his profile becomes clearer as the investigation progresses.

Damage to one of the largest churches in Paris. This Thursday March 2, it is the monument dedicated to Saint-Eustache, in the 1st arrondissement of the capital, which was targeted by an individual. Yves Tcheris, priest of the Oratory, explains on the monument's Instagram account that the man broke the protective glass of the brocade of the celebration altar, with a fire extinguisher.

"It seems useful to me to specify that, following this malicious action, the altar can no longer be used until a repair celebration has taken place", specifies Yves Tcheris.

THE SUSPECT HAD ALREADY VANDALIZED A CHURCH

According to a source relayed by the CNEWS police-justice service, the sexton saw the suspect flee. He was able to draw a detailed portrait of him to the investigators, namely a thin man of African type with short hair measuring 1m90.

The suspect's modus operandi for the misdeeds observed on Thursday would be comparable to that of the Saint-François-Xavier church (Paris 7th arrondissement), where damage had been committed on Tuesday, February 28.

The man of faith filed a complaint for the act of vandalism committed on Thursday. The technical and scientific police took fingerprints within the church in order to confirm the leads of the investigation.

PARISIAN CHURCHES ALREADY TARGETED IN JANUARY

Parisian churches had been the target, in January, of attempted fires. The Catholic places of worship concerned were Saint-Laurent (10th arrondissement), Notre-Dame-de-Fatima (19th arrondissement) and Saint-Martin-des-Champs (3rd arrondissement). A man of Ukrainian origin had been arrested and admitted to the psychiatric infirmary of the police headquarters.

Last December, the Saint-Roch church (1st arrondissement) had meanwhile been the target of conspiratorial inscriptions.
