The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is reportedly issuing statements in the name of Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, after he left the country.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is no longer inside the country and recent statements attributed to him were written by senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officials, according to an Israeli security official cited Sunday by the Saudi broadcaster Al Hadath.

The official provided no evidence for the claim and did not identify the country where Khamenei was purportedly staying. Iran did not immediately confirm or respond to the report, which could not be independently verified.

According to the Israeli official, Khamenei has become completely disconnected from developments inside Iran, leaving IRGC commander Ahmad Vahidi and other senior officers to compose statements in his name and present an appearance of leadership continuity.

The allegation would represent a significant escalation from previous reports describing Khamenei as isolated in a secret location with extremely restricted communications. Earlier American intelligence reporting said messages reached him through what officials described as “a labyrinth of couriers,” but did not indicate that he had left Iran.

Questions surrounding Khamenei’s whereabouts, health and authority have persisted since he succeeded his father, Ali Khamenei, following the previous supreme leader’s death in US-Israeli strikes on Feb. 28.

The younger Khamenei was reportedly injured in the same attack and has not made a confirmed public appearance since his appointment on March 8. He was also absent from the extensive funeral ceremonies held for his father earlier this month, despite reports that he had sought permission to attend.

Iranian officials attributed his absence to injuries and the danger that a public appearance could allow Israel to locate or assassinate him. President Masoud Pezeshkian said in May that he had met Khamenei and that the supreme leader’s condition was improving.

The IRGC published what it described as a new photograph of Khamenei on July 11 and said he was in “complete health.” The image did not resolve doubts over his location or the extent to which he was personally directing government decisions.

Iranian state media have instead issued a succession of written messages attributed to the supreme leader. In a statement released Saturday, Khamenei purportedly said repeated American violations of a memorandum signed with Tehran had shown that President Donald Trump’s signature was “utterly worthless and devoid of credibility.”

The statement also warned that Iran and the regional “resistance front” had “unforgettable lessons” for the United States as fighting between the two countries intensified.

The Israeli official cited by Al Hadath claimed those and other messages were not written by Khamenei, but by Vahidi and members of the Revolutionary Guard seeking to conceal the leader’s absence and maintain the appearance of a functioning command structure.

No independent evidence has emerged establishing who prepared or approved the written statements. Reuters reported earlier this month that senior Iranian sources believed Khamenei was continuing to make decisions while recovering, even though he was not well enough to appear publicly.

His prolonged absence has nevertheless become an increasingly serious political problem for the Islamic Republic. Iran’s supreme leader is constitutionally the country’s highest authority, with control over the armed forces, intelligence apparatus, judiciary and major elements of foreign and domestic policy.

Khamenei entered the office without the public political history or senior religious standing possessed by his predecessors. His influence before becoming supreme leader was largely exercised behind the scenes through his father’s office and his close relationships with Revolutionary Guard commanders.

Those ties have fueled speculation that the IRGC is exercising unprecedented control over the state while the supreme leader remains hidden.

“The internal divisions in Iran are deep and threaten the very existence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,” the Israeli official told Al Hadath.

The official also claimed that Iranian operatives had prepared a sophisticated plan to assassinate senior Israeli figures in central Tel Aviv in retaliation for Ali Khamenei’s death.

No details were provided about the intended targets, the alleged method of attack or whether any suspects had been arrested. Israeli authorities have not publicly announced the disruption of such a plot.

Iran and its allied organizations have repeatedly threatened to avenge the elder Khamenei’s killing. Vahidi said earlier this month that pursuing those responsible for the US-Israeli operation would remain a permanent Iranian priority.

The Israeli source separately claimed that Washington does not want Israel participating in offensive operations against Iran, even in response to an Iranian attack.

The United States has not publicly confirmed such a restriction.

Colombia Charges 13 ex-Chiquita Executives of Financing Death Squads

(UPI) -- Colombia's Attorney General's Office on Friday charged 13 former Chiquita executives for financing paramilitary death squads that are accused of killing more than 4,000 people.

Between 1997 and 2004, the executives of the Florida-based corporation paid $1.7 million to the United Self-Defenders of Colombia, or AUC in its Spanish initials, prosecutors said. The company already admitted to making the payments in 2007 in U.S. court when it settled with the Justice Department for funding terrorism and paid a $25 million fine.

Chiquita has said that it was "forced" to pay off the AUC.

"To be clear, there is no allegation that Chiquita itself committed any of the crimes perpetrated by the Colombian terrorist groups," the company said in a statement at the time. "The only allegation is that Chiquita should be held responsible for these crimes by virtue of the money that it was forced to pay."

Does forced to pay mean they were held at gunpoint, or that it was the cost of doing business in an extremely corrupt country? If it was the latter, then the cost was too high. Decency would demand that you just cut and run. No business is worth financing assassination squads.

Friday's announcement opens the case in Colombia, where the killings took place, and is the result of Prosecutor General Humberto Martinez's efforts to investigate and prosecute corporate funding of paramilitary squads, in what has become known as "para-economics," according to Colombia Reports.

Of the 13 former executives charged, three are American: Dorn Robert Wenninger, John Paul Olivo and Charles Dennis Keiser.

All of the former executives are accused of financing death squads that are accused of killing 4,335 people, disappeared 1,306 people and forced the displacement of 1,675 others.

They are accused of crimes against humanity and "aggravated conspiracy to commit a crime."

It seems the current government is trying to clean up the horrendous mess of corruption in Colombia. God help them; they need it.

Amsterdam Attacker Who Stabbed 2 Americans had ‘Terrorist Motive’ – Authorities

The Afghan man suspected in the Amsterdam Central Railway Station stabbing that injured two Americans on Friday had a “terrorist motive,” local authorities said, citing the suspect's initial statements.

“The victims were not chosen deliberately or with a clear reason,” Amsterdam authorities said, as quoted by AP. “The investigation is still underway, and all scenarios remain open for the investigation team.”

The stabbings took place at Amsterdam’s busy Central Station on Friday afternoon. The two victims were identified as being American, Ambassador Pete Hoekstra said in a statement, adding that the embassy had been in touch with their families.

Both victims have serious but not life-threatening injuries, and are expected to fully recover. "We wish them a speedy recovery and are working closely with the City of Amsterdam to provide assistance to them and their families," Hoekstra said.

The suspected attacker was shot and wounded by police. It is understood that the suspect, who was later identified as an Afghan citizen with a German residency permit, did not know the two Americans.

Multiple data devices have been seized and will be investigated, De Telegraaf reported, citing the local municipality. The suspect will be brought before the examining magistrate on Monday. 

A search has also been carried out at the suspect's home in Germany, at the request of Dutch authorities, according to Dutch news agency Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau (ANP).

Amsterdam police spokesman Frans Zuiderhoek earlier told AFP that the investigation was “seriously taking into account that there was a terrorist motive.”

On Friday, witnesses described utter chaos as gunshots rang out in Amsterdam’s busiest train station, as thousands of commuters and tourists were evacuated just after noon. Roughly 250,000 travelers use Central Station every day.

THANE, India, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Authorities in India have dropped the hammer on several "call centers" that were nerve centers for an aggressive scam intended to swindle Americans out of cash by posing as the Internal Revenue Service.

Indian police said at least 70 people have been arrested for taking part in the scam and investigators are looking at hundreds more. Nine call centers were disrupted by the crackdown.

"They were stunned to see the police," deputy police commissioner Parag Manere, who supervised the raid, said. "They never thought that police would raid them."

Why was that, I wonder? Did they assume the police were on the take? Were the police on the take? And if they were, what happened? Should there be an investigation into the possibility of police being on the take?

The goal of the scammers is simple, officials say -- call as many U.S. residents as possible, pose as an IRS agent and tell them they owe back taxes. The coup de grace comes when the scammers tell the unsuspecting, and often frightened, Americans that they will be arrested and taken to jail unless they pony up the cash immediately.

Authorities say the scammers often don't raise suspicion because they speak with an American accent and they give no indication the money is going overseas. Officials say they set it up so the cash was wired to U.S. bank accounts before being transferred to India.

And a lot of people fell for it.

Incredibly, the bogus IRS call centers were taking in about $150,000 per day for a year before the con was uncovered.

So far, some of the big wigs of the scam have eluded capture and Indian authorities believe there are almost certainly accomplices in the United States.

Indian investigators got into position to bust the IRS ring after an informant came forward a few weeks ago. Police said more than 600 other suspected scammers are under investigation and could also be arrested.

Impersonating the IRS to unlawfully collect money is hardly a new concept. Several people have been arrested and charged inside the United States in recent years for doing the same thing. Authorities say millions of dollars have been swindled out of residents since the scam started about three years ago.

"That Makes Me Smart"! Sure!

If you have been following this blog for awhile you know that I haven't paid a lot of attention to the presidential race in the USA. You may even know that I do not like 'reality TV' nor do I like the 'theatre of the absurd', both of which describe the last year and a half of American electioneering. Consequently, I did not watch the big debate last night; I was happy to watch a few highlights, although I'm not sure that's the appropriate word. What I heard was disturbing but very telling.

Hillary Clinton missed a great opportunity last night to destroy Donald Trump; whether she didn't hear his remark or just wasn't ready for it, only she knows. But when she announced that Trump had paid zero dollars in taxes for some years (I'm not sure how she found that out, it seems unlikely that it was public information), Trump interjected with the comment, "That makes me smart"! Does it? Maybe, but saying it was a pretty stupid thing to do for several reasons:

1. He's calling everyone else in America who pays taxes - stupid for doing so.

2. That sets an example for Americans to emulate. If All Americans were 'smart', there would be no government, no police, no military, no justice system, no prison system, no food and drug control, etc., etc. Society would completely collapse into anarchy.

3. If Trump becomes President, he would have to deal with that very problem of falling tax revenues. Consequently, he would have to raise taxes in many areas and eliminate tax breaks, ie mortgages. God forbid he should attempt to tax the wealthy.

4. Trump has as much as admitted that the entire government, military, police, etc., etc, systems are being carried on the backs of middle income Americans who, obviously, aren't very 'smart'. 

5. That means that Trump and many other extremely wealthy people do not support the American military, police or firefighters. They seem quite happy with allowing middle income Americans to shoulder all that responsibility. Their responsibility is to their own greed, not to America.

They are quite happy to send Americans into war zones where they know some will come back in body bags, or missing some parts, because many of America's wealthy benefit financially from Americans using their weapons, etc. And, all too often, those soldiers are fighting an enemy using American weapons as well. All the more profit for American arms manufacturers to hide in off-shore accounts away from the IRS.

One of the reasons middle Americans are supporting Trump is because he is rogue; he's not in the pockets of the 1% who are telling Congress and the Senate how to vote on any bill concerning them. And that's refreshing, the thought of the 1% not being able to control the government. It is, however, wishful thinking, for two reasons:

1. Trump is one of the 1%, so how would his policies differ from the others?

2. If he did attempt to make some significant changes to benefit middle-income Americans at the expense of the tax-free 1%, he would be stymied at every turn by Congress and the Senate who are still in the pockets of the rich and tax-free.
