French Government falls on budget vote as first EU collapse due to Trump's military budget demands and the stupidity of Macron and von der Leyen

French government collapses

Prime Minister Francois Bayrou ousted by the National Assembly in a no-confidence vote
French government collapses

The French government has fallen after Prime Minister Francois Bayrou lost a crucial confidence vote in parliament on Monday. Bayrou is the second consecutive prime minister under President Emmanuel Macron to be ousted, throwing the nation into political and economic turmoil.

A no-confidence motion in the National Assembly requires at least 288 votes to pass. Monday’s motion received 364 votes, with the left-wing New Popular Front and the right-wing National Rally uniting in opposition to end a months-long standoff over Bayrou’s austerity budget.

Having previously survived eight no-confidence motions, Bayrou called this vote himself, in a bid to secure backing for proposals that forecast almost €44 billion ($52 billion) of savings to ease France’s debt burden before the budget is presented in October.

The prime minister, who has repeatedly warned that France’s national debt poses a “mortal danger” to the country, appeared to acknowledge his fate. In a bitter remark on Sunday, Bayrou lashed out at rival parties that he said “hate each other” yet joined forces “to bring down the government.”

Bayrou is the second French prime minister in succession to be brought down following Michel Barnier’s ejection last December after just three months in office – and the sixth to serve under Macron since he was first elected in 2017.

Bayrou’s ouster reportedly leaves the French president to choose between appointing a Socialist prime minister to steer a budget through parliament, effectively ceding control of domestic policy, or call snap elections that polls suggest favour Marine Le Pen’s National Rally. With Macron’s approval ratings already hitting historic lows, either choice risks further weakening his presidency. Analysts warn that if markets lose confidence in France’s ability to rein in its deficit and mounting debt, the country could face turmoil reminiscent of the UK during the brief Liz Truss premiership.

Public discontent with Macron’s leadership has deepened, with the latest Le Figaro poll showing nearly 80% of French no longer trust the president. Thousands marched through Paris at the weekend demanding Macron’s resignation and carrying placards reading ‘Let’s stop Macron’ and ‘Frexit.’

Trump cutting funding to train and support European troops in countries bordering Russia: report

The apparent shift has alarmed European defense leaders, who see the presence of U.S. troops and support as a key deterrent against Moscow

The Trump administration is halting what may amount to hundreds of millions of dollars in security funding to those European nations bordering Russia.

The upcoming cuts, which have not been publicly announced, come as the administration has not sought to renew European portions of what’s known as Section 333 funding and the Baltic Security Initiative, which supports nations near the Russian border like Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, the Financial Times reports.

“This action has been co-ordinated with European countries in line with the executive order and the president’s long-standing emphasis on ensuring Europe takes more responsibility for its own defense,” a White House official told the paper.

His timing on this announcement is awkward as the French government collapsed because of very serious budget issues. It's almost impossible for France to get it's budget in order at the best of times. The French react violently when their privileges are attacked. On top of this, Trump requires EU countries to dramatically increase military spending on the absurd presumption that Russia might attack at any moment.

President Macron played up this insane scenario, making stupid promises he cannot possibly afford, and now is being pressured to resign himself.

This is just the first EU country to be thrown into chaos by Trump's America First policy, which has utterly no regard for the rest of the world. It won't be the last.

And he calls himself a Christian!

Did the Trump-Putin meeting change the acceptible narrative on Russia?

Putin-Trump summit ‘erased’ Western narratives

– EU state’s leader

Direct dialogue with Moscow is crucial, Slovak PM Robert Fico has said, urging Brussels to take its cue from Washington
Putin-Trump summit ‘erased’ Western narratives – EU state’s leader

The summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, in Alaska has challenged the West’s entrenched confrontational narratives regarding relations with Moscow, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has claimed.

In defiance of the EU’s prevailing approach, Fico halted Bratislava’s military aide to Kiev in October 2023, and has been a vocal critic of the bloc’s sanctions against Moscow, as well as suggestions that Ukraine join NATO.

This is why EU's Deep Left is working to undermine Fico. See the previous post on this blog.

In a video posted on Facebook on Saturday, Fico stated that the sheer fact that Putin and Trump had met in person was the “most important thing” about the summit in Anchorage on Friday.

“Politicians need to meet and show mutual respect, to talk and try to understand each other,” the Slovak prime minister argued.

He further claimed that the high-profile meeting had “rejected the black-and-white view of the military conflict in Ukraine” and essentially “erased a single mandatory opinion on the war.”

“We must speak equally about security guarantees both for Ukraine and for the Russian Federation,” taking into account the “historical roots” of the conflict, Fico emphasized.

“The next few days will show whether the major players in the EU will support this process,” or continue to persist with their “failing” strategy aimed at weakening Russia.

In a post on X on Saturday, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, similarly hailed the Putin-Trump meeting for having made the “world a safer place than it was yesterday.”

Speaking to Fox News following the summit, the US president described the talks with his Russian counterpart as “warm,” bringing the sides “pretty close to the end” of the Ukraine conflict, with “one or two pretty significant items” left to iron out.

Putin characterized the talks with Trump as “constructive” and “useful.”

European Leaders cease-fire plan in Ukraine is befitting their stupidity

Ukraine, European leaders counter Russian cease-fire plan ahead of Trump and Putin meeting

European officials have rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin’s demands that Ukraine give up its territories annexed during his war, pushing their own proposal instead.

The counter-offer demands rock-solid security guarantees for Kyiv, including NATO membership, before any territorial concessions, European officials familiar with the talks told the Wall Street Journal.

The European plan – put forward by the UK, France, Germany and Ukraine — also proposes that any land exchange must be reciprocal. If Ukraine gives up some regions, Russia must pull out of others.

The proposal was presented Saturday in the UK to senior US officials that included Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s Ukraine envoy Keith Kellogg and Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

The deal is meant to serve as a framework for negotiations between Putin and President Trump in Alaska on Friday.

“The future of Ukraine cannot be decided without the Ukrainians who have been fighting for their freedom and security for over three years now,” French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on X.

Economics - Trump Style > Trump ate von der Leyen for breakfast in biggest deal ever - Orban

Is there a big difference between Trump's trade deals and the old Mafia protection rackets - Pay me what I want and I won't destroy you!

‘Dark day’: French PM says EU’s Trump trade deal is a ‘submission’

The European Union’s trade deal with the United States is “submission” to U.S. President Donald Trump and marks a “dark day” in the history of the bloc, French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou said on Monday.

Trump announced a trade deal between the U.S. and the EU on Sunday after meeting with European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland.

Bayrou took to social media to criticize the deal, which would see an across the board 15 per cent tariff on most goods from Europe.

“Von der Leyen-Trump Agreement: it is a dark day when an alliance of free peoples, united to affirm their values and defend their interests, resolves to submission,” Bayrou posted in French on the social media platform X.

What Trump’s EU trade deal reveals about talks with Canada

The response from French government officials stands in contrast to some other European nations. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz welcomed the deal.

“We have been able to safeguard our core interests,” Merz said in a statement on Monday.

A 15% tariff is safeguarding? Someone please explain that to me.

Also, explain to me how weakening the economy of all your friends and trading partners doesn't come back to bite you. What goes around, comes around!

On the other hand, French President Emmanuel Macron has not reacted to the announcement of a trade deal, while other senior French officials have been cautious in their reactions.

“The trade agreement negotiated by the European Commission with the United States will bring temporary stability to economic actors threatened by the escalation of American tariffs, but it is unbalanced,” French deputy minister for European Affairs Benjamin Haddad said in a statement on X.

“The current situation is not satisfactory and cannot be sustainable. The free trade that has brought shared prosperity to both sides of the Atlantic since the end of the Second World War is now rejected by the United States, which is choosing economic coercion and complete disregard for WTO rules,” Haddad added.

The private meeting between Trump and von der Leyen culminated months of bargaining, with the White House deadline Friday nearing for imposing punishing tariffs on the 27-member EU.

“It was a very interesting negotiation. I think it’s going to be great for both parties,” Trump said. The agreement, he said, was “a good deal for everybody” and “a giant deal with lots of countries.”

Von der Leyen said the deal “will bring stability, it will bring predictability that’s very important for our businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Trump said the EU had agreed to buy some $750 billion worth of U.S. energy and invest $600 billion more than it already is in America, as well as making a major purchase of military equipment.

“We are agreeing that the tariff straight across for automobiles and everything else will be a straight across tariff of 15 per cent,” Trump said. “We have a tariff of 15 per cent. We have the opening up of all of the European countries.”

Von der Leyen said the 15 per cent tariffs were “across the board, all inclusive” and that “indeed, basically the European market is open.”

Except, you are restricted to buying American LNG at twice the price of Russian gas. And you have been bullied or fooled into thinking you need trillions of dollars worth of American-made weapons systems. Orban is right, as usual.
