Swiss prosecutors indict two people on terroism charges
July 7 (UPI) -- The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland filed an indictment against two people on terrorism charges on Monday.
The two men, aged 36, a Kosovar national, and aged 33, a Macedonian national, are being accused of having carried out activities related to indoctrination, financing, and the recruitment of new members.
The two are suspected of promoting the ideology and supporting the terrorist group "Islamic State."
In shared charges, they collected money from members of the Geneva chapter and had funds sent to Kosovo to fund the activities of the terrorist organization.
The Kosovar terrorist organization aims to recruit as many followers as possible to join its cause and its Salafi-jihadist ideology. Also, it wants to take up arms and seize control over a selected region, under the terrorist organization "Islamic State."
The Kosovar national is believed to have served on the executive committee and acted as co-leader for a terrorist branch in Kosovo. He is also believed to have organized meetings of the Swiss chapter's members.
The Macedonian national is also suspected of being a member of the Swiss chapter. He is believed to have organized visits from preachers to teach the "Islamic State" terrorist principles and ideology.
The OAG will announce its sentencing requests during the hearings.

What began as a mission of inclusion for Uziel Inácio-Steck, a 43-year-old Jewish gay teacher from Brazil, ended in isolation, harassment and trauma. His story—reported by Thorsten Schmitz in Germany’s Süddeutsche Zeitung—sheds light on what many educators describe as the failure of integration in some of Berlin’s immigrant-heavy neighborhoods.
According to the report, Inácio-Steck moved to Berlin in 2010 and has taught for nine years at the Karl-Bolle elementary school in Moabit, a working-class district of 85,000 residents.
About 95% of the school’s students are from immigrant families, largely from Lebanon, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Palestinian territories. Most come from conservative households where homosexuality is taboo—or outright illegal.
Though he kept both his Jewish identity and sexual orientation private for years, Inácio-Steck eventually told students he was married to a man. That revelation triggered what he called a “nightmare.”Students mocked him, refused to share classrooms or food with him and called him “filthy.” One student shouted, “You’re gay? I’m going to tell the whole school,” while others told him he was a “disgrace to Islam and the family.” Some even threatened violence. “This is a place,” one boy told him, “Where Islam is the boss.”
Despite reporting incidents to the school administration, Inácio-Steck said he received little support. Administrators urged him to adapt to the students’ “traditional backgrounds” and to avoid “causing trouble.” …
EU state suspends asylum applications for arrivals
from North Africa
Greece has suspended the processing of asylum applications from people coming to the country from North Africa for three months, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced, warning that those arriving illegally by boat will be arrested and detained.
The temporary measure will allow the government to effectively address the surge in migrant arrivals, the Greek official said in a post on X on Wednesday.
“The Greek Government sends a message of determination that the passage from North Africa to Greece is closing… [and] to all traffickers and all their potential customers that the money they spend may be completely wasted, because it will be difficult to reach Greece by sea,” he declared.
The move comes just a day after Libya’s eastern-based government in Benghazi blocked the entry of an EU delegation, including Greek Minister for Migration and Asylum Thanos Plevris, who had visited the country for talks on curbing illegal migration.
Libya became a key transit point for human trafficking and migration to Europe via the Mediterranean following a NATO-backed uprising in 2011 that led to the overthrow and assassination of longtime ruler Muammar Gaddafi.
Greek officials have reported a sharp rise in migrant arrivals on the southern islands of Crete and Gavdos in recent months, with more than 9,000 people landing there since the beginning of 2025. According to the Greek City Times, Vasilis Katsikandarakis, president of the Western Crete Coast Guard Personnel Union, has stated that 963 arrivals were recorded last Sunday alone, marking a 380% increase in migrant flows compared to the same period last year.
“The migration issue is suffocating us,” Katsikandarakis said, claiming that “thousands more are waiting in North Africa.”
On Tuesday, EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner, Greek Migration Minister Thanos Plevris, Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, and Maltese Minister for Home Affairs Byron Camilleri met with Libya’s UN-recognized government in Tripoli to discuss efforts to combat illegal migration along the Central Mediterranean route.
Following the meeting, the Tripoli-based administration’s prime minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, said he had tasked the Interior Ministry with drafting a national migration plan rooted in practical cooperation and a commitment to lasting solutions.
The EU officials had been scheduled to hold talks with the rival administration in Benghazi but were declared unwelcome for allegedly violating Libyan laws.
In other words, they are making a killing by enabling the migration to Europe.
The EU has struggled to manage the migration crisis since 2015, with Greece, Italy, and Spain receiving the highest number of arrivals across the Mediterranean. The bloc plans to tie its development aid and trade relations with African nations to their cooperation in curbing small boat departures to Europe, Politico reported Wednesday, citing an internal draft document.
