Prime Minister Theresa May has vowed to ban “cruel and inhumane” gay conversion therapy as part of its LGBT + action plan. Opposition MPs, however, say the plan is still not enough.
The Tory government has outlined 75 steps it will take as part of its plan to stamp out discrimination and inequality directed toward the LGBT+ community.
The plan comes after a government survey of 108,000 LGBT+ people sought to identify some of the biggest struggles facing the community. It found two percent of respondents underwent gay conversion therapy, while five percent were offered it, despite the NHS in 2014 warning it is “unethical and potentially harmful.”
Women’s and inequalities minister Penny Morduant said the practice – which can “range from pseudo-psychological treatments to, in the most extreme cases, surgical interventions and ‘corrective rape’,” must be eradicated.
Rape of any kind must be eradicated; that's a given. I am assuming 'surgical interventions' refer to reversing previous surgical interventions performed on transvestites. If not, I don't know what else it could be referring to. So it's odd that reversing a surgical procedure is deemed extreme evil, but the original procedure is not. I'm sure no trans person is going to agree to reversing surgery unless they are convinced it was wrong in the first place.
The assumption here by the confused minister is that a 'normal' person who looks at their male genitalia and decides they are a woman, is making the right decision. But a trans person who was born a man and looks down at his lack of male genitalia and decides that he was mistaken after all, is making a wrong decision. It is logical insanity at the very least, and it contravenes what is being taught in many schools in far-left leaning countries, that sexuality is fluid!
If May inflicts this law upon the people of the UK, she must accompany it with the commitment that gender fluidity not be taught in schools.
The survey – deemed to be the world’s largest study of its kind – also found two in three gay people avoid holding each other’s hands in public, while nearly a quarter found people in their workplace reacted negatively to their sexuality.
While saying the UK is a “world leader in advancing LGBT+ rights,” PM May described the responses as "overwhelming" and "shone a light on the many areas we can improve the lives of LGBT people."
"No-one should ever have to hide who they are or who they love," she said.
She continued: “I was struck by just how many respondents said they cannot be open about their sexual orientation or avoid holding hands with their partner in public for fear of a negative reaction. No-one should ever have to hide who they are or who they love.”
Labour’s shadow equalities minister, Dawn Butler, welcomed the government’s attention to LGBT+ issues, but said its plans still lack concrete reform.
She continued: “Cruel and inhumane conversion therapies have been allowed to spread fear and hatred in our society for far too long. Unfortunately, this report does not commit to legislative change. We call on the government to bring forward legislation which proposes nothing short of a full ban.
“With one in five LGBT+ people experiencing a hate crime in the last year, we are disappointed that the government has not met Labour’s call to make these crimes an aggravated offence, the same as hate crimes based on race and faith,” she said, the Independent reports.
“It’s exasperating to see the government re-announce an announcement they made a year ago about consulting on the Gender Recognition Act. Labour is calling for the Act to be updated to ensure greater protections for trans people, and we urge Theresa May to finally work with us to make it law.”
One of my concerns is that it will soon be illegal to counsel a person who has become disenchanted with their lifestyle and wants to change it. Whether surgical or spiritual or psychological, making it a crime to help such people ought to be a crime in itself. It is certainly morally abysmal.
40 schools in England ban girls from wearing skirts to accommodate transgender students

Some 40 secondary schools in England have banned girls from wearing skirts, one month after a school in Oxfordshire recommended it's male students wear them to deal with soaring temperatures.
According to the Sunday Times, schools are opting for gender-neutral uniforms to encompass transgender students, with others consulting on a ban.
Priory School, a secondary in Lewes, East Sussex enforced a ban on skirts and ordered girls to wear trousers instead in an effort to accommodate transgender pupils, after students had asked why girls and boys had to wear different clothes.
Headteacher Tony Smith said in September, “We have a small but increasing number of transgender students and therefore having the same uniform is important for them.”
But feminists have complained that a complete ban on skirts in favour of gender-neutral uniform is not the answer to the growing number of transgender pupils, arguing that children should be offered a choice.
Renowned feminist, the American author and former Bill Clinton adviser, Naomi Wolf stated that: “I think that trousers-only for everyone is a silly way to go — unless you are going to also offer the option of skirts-only for everyone. I believe that if everyone is offered the option of both skirts and trousers, everyone can find his, her or their comfortable fit.”
Of course! But then there is no place for logic or common sense in a world of political correctness.
Copleston High School, in Ipswich, has put skirts on a list of inadmissible items alongside “skinny jeans and facial piercings”. In Ipswich, a total of eight secondary schools prohibit skirts, which means the majority of female pupils in the town attend ‘trouser-only’ schools.
Skirts at Woodhey High School, in Bury, were classed as “undignified and embarrassing” for staff and visitors when girls sit on the floor for assembly and in drama classes.
There has been a backlash from some schools, who are fighting to save the skirt. Students at Philips High School, Bury, have assembled hundreds of signatories to their petition in reaction to plans to make wearing trousers compulsory for boys and girls next year.
They argue that a ban on skirts is “sexualising” pupils’ bodies. Female students at the school also claim that they feel more confident in skirts and forcing them to wear trousers could “damage our mental health.” The petition states: “If any teacher believes seeing a child’s leg is in any way ‘too sexual’,” then “they should be sacked immediately for gross misconduct.”
I like those kids. Go girls!
Diane Burdaky, parent of a pupil at Philips High School told RT that there had been no consultation process and that the children did “not want to wear trousers all the time.”
She said: "I was very shocked. There was no consultation with any parents or students. There was no explanation for the ban. No reasons given whatsoever. I know the children at school do not want to wear trousers all the time."
The latest school skirt furore, follows an Oxfordshire school telling its male students that they can join their female peers by donning the school skirt if they find trousers too hot and uncomfortable.
Well, after all, they do it in Scotland all the time. Even the Princes wear kilts from time to time. Mind you, you wouldn't catch me in one.
The advice issued by Chiltern Edge Secondary School came after the school introduced a ‘more formal’ uniform policy at the beginning of the school year, which stipulated that students’ legwear may only be either trousers or skirts.
The growing popularity of adopting gender-neutral uniform policies have grown among UK schools since the introduction of the Equality Act in 2010. Under its provisions, the law leaves schools with a duty to protect transgender students from discrimination.
All students need to be protected from discrimination, but not by discriminating against 99% of the girls. That's just stupid! Let them wear either!
