What is Surveillance Capitalism and Psy War? > Dr Robert Malone, Shoshana Zuboff

Surveillance Capitalism and PsyWar

Explanation of the central business model of Google, Facebook, and most social media

Surveillance capitalism is a novel economic system that has emerged in the digital era. It is characterized by the unilateral claim of private human experience as free raw material for translation into behavioral data. In this version of capitalism, predicting and influencing behavior (political and economic) rather than producing goods and services is the primary product. This economic logic prioritizes extracting, processing, and trading personal data to predict and influence human behavior by exploiting those predictions for various economic (marketing) and political objectives.

In many cases, surveillance capitalism merges with PsyWar tools and technologies to power the modern surveillance state, giving rise to a new form of Fascism (public-private partnerships) known as techno-totalitarianism.  Leading corporations employing the surveillance capitalism business model include Google, Amazon and Facebook.  Surveillance capitalism has now fused with the science and theory of psychology, marketing, and algorithmic manipulation of online information to give rise to propaganda and censorship capabilities that go far beyond those imagined by the twentieth-century predictions of Aldous Huxley and George Orwell.

Key Features of Surveillance Capitalism

  1. One-way mirror operations: Surveillance capitalists engineer operations to operate in secrecy, hiding their methods and intentions from users, who are unaware of the extent of data collection and analysis.

  2. Instrumentation power: Surveillance capitalists wield power by designing systems that cultivate “radical indifference,” rendering users oblivious to their observations and manipulations.

  3. Behavioral futures markets: The extracted data is traded in new markets, enabling companies to bet on users’ future behavior, generating immense wealth for surveillance capitalists.

  4. Collaboration with the state: Surveillance capitalism often involves partnerships with governments, leveraging favorable laws, policing, and information sharing to further entrench its power.

Russophobia - Skripal Poisoning Handling Leaves Room for Manipulation

..

UK Defense ministry document reveals Skripals blood samples

could have been manipulated

By Dilyana Gaytandzhieva - Dilyana.BG

Incredible transformation: Yulia Skripal (left) following the alleged poisoning with the deadliest known nerve agent Novichok. Yulia and her father Sergei Skripal (right) before the alleged nerve agent poisoning.

New evidence has emerged of gross violations during the UK investigation into the alleged poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury on 4th March 2018. The new revelations put into question the main evidence that the Skripals were poisoned with the nerve agent Novichok.

The blood samples taken from the Skripals could have been tampered with so that they test positive for Novichok, newly disclosed information obtained from the UK Ministry of Defense reveals. Furthermore, documents show that Russia was not the only country in the world that could be linked to the nerve agent Novichok.

The US had covered up its own Novichok program masked as research on fourth generation nerve agents (FGAs) and muzzled the Organisation for the prohibition of chemical weapons (OPCW) a decade before the Skripals attack.

Breach of chain of custody

Newly disclosed information obtained from the UK Ministry of Defense (MOD) under the Freedom of Information Act questions the integrity of the main evidence that the Skripals were poisoned with Novichok, namely their blood samples. The ministry is in charge of the British military laboratory DSTL Porton Down which analyzed the Skripals blood samples and reportedly identified Novichok.

“Our searches have failed to locate any information that provides the exact time that the samples were collected”, the ministry states. The information held by MOD therefore indicates that the samples were collected at some point between 16:15 on 4 March 2018 and 18:45 on 5 March 2018 (the approximate time according to MOD when the samples arrived at DSTL Porton Down). Even the time of arrival at Porton Down is indicated as “approximate”.

The lack of this information is gross violation and breach of the chain of custody. The UK NHS protocol requires that a request form accompany all specimens sent to the laboratory and clearly state the exact (not approximate) date and time of collection. This newly disclosed information questions the whole Skripals Novichok poisoning story. The fact that the chain of custody of these blood samples was broken directly suggests that they could have been manipulated and tampered with.

There is so much more on this story, some of it a little technical. There is also some reference to the Navalny poisoning. Read it at DILYANA.BG

The Shocking Truth That Some of Us Already Knew - Some Scientific Data are Fudged

When scientists want their data fudged
and why you should care

Some statisticians have been asked to falsify
significance of research results, new study finds
Kelly Crowe · CBC News ·

A shocking revelation during a casual conversation prompted a New York epidemiologist to investigate the ethically dubious things statisticians are sometimes asked to do when analyzing research findings. (sasirin pamai/Shutterstock)

This is an excerpt from Second Opinion, a weekly roundup of eclectic and under-the-radar health and medical science news emailed to subscribers every Saturday morning. If you haven't subscribed yet, you can do that by clicking here.

How often are you asked to do something unethical? That was the blunt question at the heart of a surprising survey of statisticians released this week.

The answer? Many statisticians reported that scientists routinely asked them to fudge data.

McGill University bioethicist Jonathan Kimmelman said the results should be concerning to everyone.

"We use [statistical] information to make decisions about what drugs to take, what foods to eat, what policies to make, what chemicals to ban," Kimmelman said. "It's crucial to protect the integrity of that data."

Ralph Katz, a New York epidemiologist, got the idea for the study after he casually asked a statistician if scientists ever wanted him to manipulate their data to get a better result.

"I just asked him one day when we were chatting. And he said 'frequently.'"

"We use [statistical] information to make decisions
about what drugs to take, what foods to eat,
what policies to make, what chemicals to ban.

- Jonathan Kimmelman, McGill University bioethicist

Shocked, Katz asked other statisticians and realized it was a common experience among the mathematical whizzes who analyze research results.

"They talk about what they've been asked to do over beers, after the meetings of the day." Katz said.

But there was no data to reveal the extent of the problem, so Katz conducted a formal survey sent to a randomly selected group of statisticians.

Published this week in the Annals of Internal Medicine, the ethically dubious things the statisticians were asked to do included altering data records, falsifying statistical significance, and stressing only the significant findings.

"Greater than 20 per cent, sometimes up to 50 per cent, said these had occurred a multiple number of times over the last five years," said Katz, adding that this does not mean all research is compromised.

"There are a lot of consultations being done where this is not happening, but it is alarming how often it is happening."

Most people are unaware that statisticians have a critical role in research. It's their job to analyze complex arrays of data to determine if research findings are genuine.

"What a statistician is helping a scientist do is to cut through randomness and to cut through bias to see relationships that are likely to be real," said Kimmelman.

Part of the problem is that researchers consult statisticians too late, expecting them to fix problems after the data has already been gathered.

'Jarring' experience

It's a frustration for Andrew Althouse, a biostatistician at the University of Pittsburgh.

"I feel like I've been asked to do quite a few of these at least once" said Althouse. "I do my best to stand my ground and I've never falsified data."

Althouse describes one troubling experience when a surgeon pressured him to provide data on 10-year survival rates after a particular surgical intervention. The problem — the 10-year data didn't exist because the hospital hadn't been using the procedure long enough.

"The surgeon argued with me that it was really important and pleaded with me to find some way to do this," Althouse said. "He eventually relented but it was one of the most jarring examples I've experienced."

Sometimes researchers are asking because they just don't know enough about statistics. But Kimmelman said there is a more disturbing possibility.

"A less benign interpretation is that they actually know what they're doing and they have questionable professional integrity."

"Dishonest statistical analyses can lead to false discoveries," said Althouse, adding that young statisticians are more vulnerable.

"If you're a junior person who's faced for the first time telling a surgeon you work for that you don't want to do something they told you do to, that can be a pretty intimidating situation."

'Strong incentives for people to fudge'

The survey did not ask how often the statisticians agreed to tinker with the numbers. But the results warrant further investigation, said Russell Localio, a biostatistician at the University of Pennsylvania and lead author of an editorial published along with the survey.

"Given the number of respondents and the frequency and nature of the reported requests, these findings suggest that requests for inappropriate statistical methods is a real issue that needs to be studied further and addressed," he said in an email to CBC News.

"If statisticians are saying no, that's great," said Kimmelman. "But to me this is still a major concern."

Kimmelman does his own research using statistics. And he's not surprised that there's pressure to embellish results.

"Everyone has had papers that are turned down by journals because your results were not statistically significant," he said.

"Getting tenure, getting pay raises, all sorts of things depend on getting into those journals so there is really strong incentives for people to fudge or shape their findings in a way that it makes it more palatable for those journals."

"And what that shows is that there are lots of instances where there is threat of adulteration of the evidence that we use."

It is not just in medical science where data are fudged, although I am confident in the lack of integrity of some pharmaceutical companies, but there has been proven to be manipulation of data even in the atmospheric sciences. I do believe there is global warming. I also believe that there is very little real data linking it firmly to carbon emissions. And, I believe there is far too much hyperbole and hysteria being promoted by scientists and pseudo-scientists.

Many an environmentalist believes scientific data are sacred. Anything that can be manipulated by man for personal gain is vulnerable to fraud, even science.

Black Friday: Spanish Public Broadcaster Employees Mourn the Death of Independent News

© mariola.cubells / Instagram

For the third week in a row, journalists at the Spanish public-service broadcaster RTVE wore black on Friday to protest PM Mariano Rajoy's party meddling in their news coverage, which they fear damages the channel's credibility.

The staff at Radio Television Espanola rebelled against the refusal of the Spanish ruling conservative Popular Party (PP) to support the opposition's bid for a public contest to appoint a new, independent chairman for the channel.

According to RTVE staff, this kind of management casts doubt on its credibility, following numerous cases of deliberate news manipulation in favor of the ruling party, whether by withholding information or inaccurate coverage.

Women at RTVE, who were supported by many male colleagues, said they dressed in black to show they want "a public broadcaster that includes all colours, one that is diverse, independent and professional."

One of the four major political parties in Spain, PP, does not have a majority in the government and normally needs external support to pass legislation. But, according to RTVE reporter Irene Montero, Prime Minister Rajoy's PP was still able to "abuse its power" and block the opposition from lobbying for the transparent appointment of a new chairman, rather than the direct government appointment.

RTVE's current chairman's judgment calls and his policies were put into question after the coverage of Catalonia's independence referendum in October 2017. According to the channel's staff, Jose Antonio Sanchez, who is known for his pro-government stance, steered RTVE to deliberately manipulate, censor and sometimes omit certain stories, which seriously damaged their credibility.

In an attempt to counteract the manipulation, the channel's staff published an ample 72-page report. 'The Consejo de Informativos de TVE' (The News Council of the TVE) report addresses a total of nearly 30 cases of unilateral news coverage that deliberately violated the notion of plurality and freedom of speech.

This journalist turned politician recounts a story of completely fake news. Video = 1:40

One of the revealed cases involved Catalonia's independence referendum, which, despite the fact that it was widely covered elsewhere, did not receive any special attention from the RTVE, while its significance was downplayed.

Outraged with the coverage policies, the channel staff questioned the reason for giving preference to the opinions of Spain's government over those of the referendum organisers.

"What is the professional reason for the lack of informative stories regarding what happened in Catalonia on Sunday, October 1st?" the channel staff asked in the report.

Among other violations, the report revealed numerous cases of intentional mistranslation of subtitles from Catalan into Spanish.

The RTVE's Black Friday protest was initially triggered by the acquittal of five rapists in Pamplona, and it was part of an ongoing national movement to denounce sexual discrimination and to defend women's rights through their empowerment.

After two weeks of Black Friday protests, one of the editors from RTVE Valencia office quit her job in disapproval of the channel's biased news coverage.

Journalists at RTVE have launched the hashtag #AsiSeManipula (that's how they manipulate) to share their experiences working on the pro-government channel.

The campaign, led by RTVE reporters, received support from journalists and actors such as Pepa Bueno, Rosa María Calaf, Javier Cámara and Marta Soros, who published a video to advocate for the promotion of freedom of speech on radio and television.

Responding to the accusations of news manipulation, Spain's Minister of the Treasury and Public Administrations and member of PP, Cristobal Montoro, said, "if you don't like TVE (news network), then you should change the channel (network). That's what freedom is about."

Freedom without truth is no freedom at all. I suggest you listen to Minister Montoro and turn RTVE News off.
