Strange story of Russian woman and her 2 little girls living in a cave in India

Indian police find Russian mom living in a cave

with her 2 young daughters

A Russian woman and her two young daughters were found living in a cave deep in the forests of southern India, according to local authorities.

The discovery came last week, inspectors said, as they were patrolling a landslide-prone forest in the southern Indian town of Gokarna, when one of the group members spotted a statue of a Hindu deity peeking out through some dense foliage.

As they got closer to inspect, police Insp. Sridhar S.R. noticed bright coloured saris strung along the length of a rope. As he pulled back the fabric, a woman and two young girls were spotted inside a cave.

Russian national Nina Kutina, 40, and her two daughters, ages four and six, had been living in the cave for about a week, officials said. Kutina had previously used the cave as a retreat to practice yoga and meditation, and told the inspectors they were happily making it a home now.

According to ABC News, she told investigating officers she was “interested in staying in the forest and worshipping God.”

In an interview with South Asian news agency ANI, Kutina explained her reasoning for living in the forest with her girls.

“We have big experience to stay in nature, in jungle. We were not dying. I did not bring my daughters to die in jungle,” Kutina told ANI.

Kutina recounted making art and using clay with her daughters, and cooking “tasty food.”

“They did not feel bad. They were very happy,” she said.

Eventually, the trio were taken to a shelter for women run by a non-profit group, the New York Times reported. They have since been moved to a detention facility specifically for foreigners who are in India illegally. Police said they are taking steps to repatriate Kutina to Russia for overstaying her visa, but added that her children do not have Russian passports.

Police inspectors said records showed Kutina arrived in India in 2016 on a business visa that expired in April 2017. She left the country for Nepal in September 2018, but returned to India.

Kutina was “reluctant to provide proper details regarding her and her children’s passport and visa,” police Supt. M. Narayana said.

She did not reveal whether her children were born in India or Russia, but she told authorities she had a son who died in Goa, Narayana told CNN.

“She does not want to leave as she loves the nature, but we have to follow procedure,” Narayana said. He said the fact that she managed to be in India undetected since 2017 was a security concern.

“Going (into) caves is a dangerous thing, and with two children, and to live there for a week or more is astonishing.”

A police statement said Kutina sent a message to her friends after she was found.

“Our peaceful life in the cave has ended — our cave home destroyed,” she wrote in the message, according to the statement.

Bits and Bites from around the world > Mom invites 487 people to child's 1st birthday

California mom accidentally invites

487 people to child’s 1st birthday

There are some mistakes so mortifying and painful, it’s guaranteed you’ll only make them once.

A California mom will likely exercise a lot more caution in the future, after she accidentally invited all 487 contacts saved in her phone to her daughter’s first birthday party.

Emily King, 30, was planning a small get-together at a San Jose park to mark the first year of her daughter’s life, when something went horribly, embarrassingly wrong.

“I just made an Evite for my daughter’s first birthday party and on Evite it says, ‘Import contacts’ and I thought it meant import to select through (the names),” Emily King said in a viral TikTok video, which has amassed tens of millions of views.

“No — it imported all 487 of my contacts and invited them to this birthday party,” continued King, a teacher. “Not only did it invite my boss, all of my coworkers (and) all of the people that have ever been stored in my phone but it sent invitations based (on) how they are stored in my phone.”

King explained that some contacts are saved in her phone under dubious monikers, including “Derek Eye Roll” and “Jess Hit Her Car In Parking Lot.”

“I want you to just take a second and think about everyone stored in your phone and how they’re stored in your phone,” King added. “And then imagine someone receiving an invitation (under that name.)”

“Anyways, I have to quit or get a new identity,” she joked. “I don’t even know.”

King told Today.com that she got a head start on planning her daughter’s birthday because she’s currently pregnant with another baby.

“I was really excited — because I am 20 weeks pregnant, I wanted the day to be all about my daughter,” she said.

Her plan was to send out about 50 invitations, knowing not everyone would attend.

But, instead, she sent out an email blast to almost everyone she’s known in her adult life.

"All the blood drained from my body,” she said of the moment she realized her mistake, telling Today.com that romantic connections from her past, including “Justin Delta Sky Lounge” and “Cute guy from bar,” also received invitations.

She said she had to uninvite some of her colleagues, too, including “New science teacher I think?” and “David parking lot attendant.”

King’s story clearly resonated with people, judging by the more than 24,000 comments on her video where people shared the wonderful and wacky ways they, too, label their contacts.

“I wonder if ‘Blocked & Dead to me’ would make it?” wrote one person.

“I would die if ‘Mark STILL OWES ME $100’ came to my son’s birthday,” joked another.

For her troubles, King said Evite gave her a US$250 gift certificate to DoorDash to help cover the cost of food for the party. Evite also confirmed to Today.com that they’ve added a fix to their platform in response to King’s video.

“Emily’s journey inspired something we call the ‘Emily Hotfix’ that removes the ‘Select All’ function on iOS apps,” a spokesperson said.

“We’re always learning from our users, and hope this update is a help for other users too.”

Islam - Current Day > Muslim, Migrant background of Terrorist Concealed; 'Allah Akbar' shouted by firebugs; Islamist Extremism biggest threat in UK; 12 y/o Kills Mom in Honour Killing

..

After 8 years of experiencing the madness of Islam in the heart of Germany, the gangs, the rapes and gangrapes of German girls, the terrors, etc., Berlin has learned nothing about Islam and seems totally uninterested in protecting German people. And I thought Germans were smart.

Germany: Public broadcasters conceal fact that

train knife attacker is Muslim migrant

Public Broadcasters Under Fire Again After Omitting

Migrant Origin of Train Knife Attacker

by Oliver JJ Lane, Breitbart,
January 28, 2023:

Controlling the narrative in the wake of two teenagers being killed and several more injured in a knife attack allegedly committed by a refugee appears to be a top priority in Germany, with public broadcasters censoring their own reporting and politician scolding the public for “assumptions and speculation”.

A German public broadcaster said this week that omitting the migrant background of a suspected killer was “not censorship, but preservation of democracy”, after watchers pointed out that their coverage seemed to be missing some key facts about a mass stabbing on public transport.

Two people, a 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man were killed on a regional train service near the town of Brokstedt on Wednesday, and several more were injured with knife wounds. The alleged perpetrator, a 33-year-old “stateless Palestinian” migrant asylum seeker who had lived in Germany since 2014 was arrested shortly afterwards.

Subsequent to his arrest it was revealed the suspect, Ibrahim A., had worked as an Amazon delivery driver, had several previous convictions, and had only recently been released from pre-trial detention. It is also reported he had threatened people with a knife in 2021. German magazine Focus reports that even Ibrahim’s own lawyer was surprised when the court allowed him to be released from detention on January 19th.

Despite having lived in Germany for nearly a decade, Ibrahim A. was said to speak so little German that an interpreter had to be provided for his post-arrest interrogation.

Yet, according to allegations recorded in German newspaper Bild — the best-selling newspaper in Europe — if German citizens received their news of this deadly attack from some news sources, the mental picture they might build up of the circumstances might be different. The paper notes the reportage of public broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) omitted to mention the migration background of the alleged perpetrator.

Some took to social media to complain about this apparent self-censorship, which elicited a response from NDR defending their action possibly more astonishing than the original omission. Responding to one German commenting under an NDR Facebook post, Bild reports, the broadcaster replied that “the origin of the perpetrator is not relevant to the report”.

Further, to bring up the migration background of the alleged killer “leads to discriminatory generalizations or misinterpretations”. While being correct is important to NDR, the reply said, also important is “ridding our pages of racism and xenophobia”.

Not to mention 'truth'! There is no democracy where there is no truth.

Ultimately, they claimed that neutering their own output to cut out immigration facts from crime stories is “not censorship, but preservation of democracy”. NDR later closed replies to their posts, noting they reserved the right to delete replies that violated their rules….

France: Knife-wielding Muslims screaming ‘Allahu akbar’

set fire to garbage can

FEB 7, 2023 3:00 PM
BY ROBERT SPENCER

No one was hurt in this instance. Apparently the idea was something along these lines: “Make ready for them all that you can of force and of warhorses, so that by them you may strike terror in the enemy of Allah and your enemy…” (Qur’an 8:60)

Val-de-Marne: two people placed in police custody for

having set fire to garbage cans while shouting ‘Allah Akbar'

Le Figaro,
February 4, 2023

On the night of Friday to Saturday, February 4, two people were arrested in Champigny-sur-Marne, in ÃŽle-de-France, for “degradation of private property by fire, carrying a prohibited weapon and apology for terrorism.”

The two individuals were trying to set fire to a garbage can while shouting “Allahu Akbar.” The police intervened around 7:30 p.m. At the sight of the police, one of them, who was holding a knife (a blade of 15 centimeters), tried to get rid of his weapon by throwing it into a trash can.

The other also carried a bladed weapon, a kitchen knife whose blade length is estimated at 10 centimeters. He “continued to invoke the takbir (name given to the Allah Akbar prayer, editor’s note) during his arrest,” a police source told Le Figaro. Both men were taken into custody.

UK: ‘Islamists’ to be identified as biggest terror threat

in landmark report on ‘extremism’

FEB 7, 2023 12:00 PM
BY CHRISTINE DOUGLASS-WILLIAMS
Jihad Watch

A new review of “Britain’s efforts to stop people becoming terrorists will identify Islamist violence and not Right-wing extremism as the country’s biggest terror threat.” Its author, William Shawcross, reviews “Britain’s efforts to stop people becoming terrorists” and his report  identifies jihad violence “and not Right-wing extremism as the country’s biggest terror threat.” In 2021, Shawcross was appointed independent reviewer of the UK’s deradicalization program, Prevent, which not only catastrophically failed, but was discovered last month to have used taxpayer money to fund jihad organizations and Taliban supporters. The new review carries a measure of hope, but it will be certainly met with furious resistance.

Home Secretary Suella Braverman “is expected to support the review’s call for a back to basics approach which will see renewed efforts to counter the core ideology behind Islamist terrorism.” Unfortunately, there was never a “back to basics” approach to begin with, since authorities viewed normative Islam as a religion of peace. Try testing how peaceful it is regarding insults.

However many Muslims and non-Muslims proclaim Islam to be a religion of peace, there are abundant passages in the Qur’an and Hadith that prove otherwise. Indeed, there are Qur’anic verses that instruct peace, but its chronologically later verses call for war against disbelievers and bloody conquest. Islam’s principle of abrogation dictates that where there is a contradiction, the later verses override the earlier verses.

As the Western world focuses on whatever the mainstream media tells them to focus on, the threat of jihad (stealth and violent) has not abated. It is being virtually ignored. As the West beats itself up over “white supremacy,” leaders have made it easy for Muslim Brotherhood operatives and Islamic supremacists to infiltrate to the highest levels, and for violent jihadists to enter Western countries, thanks to open-door immigration policies. Western leaders tend to be naive and egotistical; many Muslims who have approached Western leaders with a friendly handshake and promises to ‘help’ fight ‘racism’ and radicalization are welcomed and embraced in a spirit of “diversity” and “inclusion.” The Telegraph revealed that “groups funded by Prevent were led by people who allegedly supported the Taliban, defended banned militant Islamist groups and hosted hate preachers.” And these individuals certainly did not ‘look’ the part.

Nonetheless, the apparent willingness of Britain to confront jihad ideology now is a significant shift. It can potentially serve as an example to the entire West, which for years has been brushing aside the ideology behind stealth and violent jihad. It is the ideology that makes its adherents particularly resistant to any deradicalization program. To date, such programs resemble routine Western programs to reduce recidivism, which are completely inept when dealing with the deeply ingrained belief among jihadists that they are doing the work of Allah and  earning rewards in the afterlife.

“Shawcross’s review of the Prevent anti-terrorism programme is expected to argue Islamist terror poses the greatest threat to life and the most casework for MI5.” It looks good theoretically, but any program that any infidel country may attempt to implement to highlight the ideology that drives jihad will be met with swift and vociferous accusations of “Islamophobia.” The Islamophobia subterfuge is a proven, sure-fire way to deflect all attention away from the jihad, and instead to stir up victimology with allegations of breaches of human rights, etc. The mainstream Left-leaning media laps it all up with glee.

When accepted leaders of a religious ideology encourage human shields and jihad summer camp for kids, as seen in the Palestinian “resistance,“ that should alert the West the reality and power of the jihad ideology. Instead, the Palestinian “resistance” has gained worldwide acceptance via sophisticated propaganda campaigns.

Pakistan: 12-year-old Muslim boy murders his mother in honor killing

FEB 7, 2023 11:00 AM
BY ROBERT SPENCER
Jihad Watch

In the Qur’an, a mysterious figure, known as Khidr in Islamic tradition, kills a boy in an apparently random and gratuitous attack. He then explains: “And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief. So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.” (18:80-81)

And according to Islamic law, “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (Reliance of the Traveller o1.1-2).

Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.’” And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.”

‘Mom of the year’ heroically saves daughter from

‘rabid’ raccoon in wild video

By Ben Cost
December 5, 2022 10:33am  Updated

A courageous Connecticut woman is being hailed as “mom of the year” online after heroically rescuing her daughter from a vicious raccoon that latched onto her leg. A video of her deed has amassed 16.6 million views on Twitter as users laud her bravery in the face of a ferocious beast.

“I heard her screaming and ran to see what was going on. I thought maybe she slammed her hand in the door, I was not expecting to see a raccoon attacking her,” Logan Kelsey MacNamara told Storyful while recounting the “unprovoked” attack, which occurred last week in the family’s hometown of Ashford. “If I didn’t have the video I wouldn’t be able to tell you exactly what happened, it all happened so fast.”

She posted the video to Facebook per her daughter’s request.

MacNamara prepares to give Ranger Rick the heave-ho.
Fox9

The nail-biting clip, captured via surveillance camera, starts off with MacNamara’s 5-year-old daughter Rylee standing on her front porch as she prepares to walk to the school bus. All of a sudden, a huge raccoon comes out of nowhere and starts attacking one of her legs, causing her to scream in terror.

“I was going out to get on the bus and a raccoon was there and tried to attack me,” said little Rylee recalling the frightening scene to local outlet WFSB. “It didn’t want to go off of my leg.”

In the clip, the shrieking girl tries to kick the vicious varmint away to no avail as it clings doggedly to her pants.

Upon her daughter’s cries, MacNamara rushes out of the house and rips the beserk trash panda off her child’s leg.

“Go inside, get in the house,” the mom urges while holding her daughter in one hand and Ranger Rick with the other, dangling it by the scruff of its neck.

Rylee heeds her mom’s command, whereupon the snarling animal whips around and starts mauling MacNamara’s arm.

At that point, the courageous gal warns onlookers to stay away because she believes that the raccoon is “rabid.”

After a short scuffle, the impromptu raccoon wrestler manages to hurl Rocky into her backyard like a furry discus, whereupon the dazed critter flees the scene.

After a fierce scuffle, MacNamara hurled the raccoon into the backyard.
Fox9

MacNamara said that Rylee sustained a few puncture wounds and, while both have scratches, they are overall faring OK following the attack. She attributes the lack of injuries to the fact that her daughter wore jeans and not leggings like she usually does, Storyful reported.

Meanwhile, animal control services combed the woods Friday in search of the culprit, but it was nowhere to be found.

As such, it’s yet unclear if the raccoon suffered from hydrophobia, however, the pair went to the hospital and received several rabies shots as a precaution. They will need to return every couple of days for the next two weeks for follow-up jabs.

“I was going out to get on the bus and a raccoon was there and tried to attack me,” said little Rylee recalling the frightening scene. “It didn’t want to go off of my leg.”
Fox9

Needless to say, social media admirers were quick to praise MacNamara for her courageous act with one Twitter viewer dubbing her the “mom of the year.”

“That mom is amazing,” fawned one admirer, while another wrote, “That protective mother strength ain’t no joke.”

One fan posted a close-up of MacNamara clutching the raccoon by the scruff of its neck with the caption, “The look on the racoon’s face when it realized it was about to find out.”

Even wildlife experts commended MacNamara’s actions. Geoff Krukar, a wildlife biologist for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, told FOX 61 that the raccoon definitely appeared to be sick and the mother did the right thing to protect her family.

“The mother behaved in a way that was very heroic,” he said. “I think she did everything, everything correctly. By avoiding getting bit, warning the neighbor to stay back and getting the child to safety.”

Despite the tidal wave of praise, MacNamara claimed that she was “more scared than anything.” In the future, she says she won’t let her kids outside without an adult present.

This isn’t the first time a woman has saved the day from a rampaging varmint. In June, a steel-nerved Alaskan woman came to the rescue of New York revelers after heroically “bouncing” an interloping opossum from a Brooklyn bar.

I was shocked by a creature on the beach — people say it’s a

‘baby Loch Ness monster’

By Ben Cost
December 13, 2022 1:43pm  Updated

The remains of a bizarre beast on a beach have sparked comparisons to the Loch Ness monster.

There are no indications of the size of this creature in this article, but the paw prints in the photo above appear to be those of a large dog.

A baffled British beachcomber experienced vex on the beach after sharing pics of a bizarre beast they found washed ashore — with many viewers comparing it to the legendary Loch Ness monster. The perplexing jetsam was reportedly discovered in November but only recently surfaced on Reddit, where it’s currently making waves as users try to make heads or tails of it.

“It looked like a sea monster,” Lindsay Freeman told Pen News of the freaky flotsam, which she found while “walking on the beach” in Poole, Dorset.

“It caught my eye because it was so unusual-looking and large,” Freeman described the beast. “I couldn’t think of an animal that had a tail like a shark, but also legs like a turtle. It also looked like it had little arms and a very strange head.”

Accompanying photos show the spotted creature, which seems to have four flippers, a long neck and a tail like a plesiosaur — the extinct dinosaur that prompted the infamous Loch Ness monster myth.

Flummoxed by the flotsam, she sent her family a photo of the mystery critter with the hope that they could provide an “explanation.”

Unfortunately, no one in her immediate circle could identify the critter, but Reddit’s ever-helpful commentariat was quick to take the Loch Ness premise and run with it.

“Bro it’s clearly a baby Loch Ness monster,” one armchair cryptozoologist joked.

“Baby Loch Ness monster for sure,” declared another, while one social media jokester added, “Baby plesiosaurus! Your discovery will be famous!”

Some Redditors even claimed it was a “liopleurodon,” a now-extinct marine predator that roamed the seas during the Jurassic period hundreds of millions of years ago.

Realists were quick to throw cold water on that theory, though, with many claiming that the creature was actually the mutilated remains of a UK-dwelling stingray called a marine thornback.

“It’s a winged thornback ray,” theorized one Redditor. “Doesn’t look like it’s been winged correctly, you’re supposed to cut around their snout so the two wings stay connected. We called the filleted wings handbags.”

Another wrote: “It looks like the ray has been predated upon. The fins have been eaten.”

“Line caught, wings removed, carcass left,” lamented one backseat biologist. “Hopefully, fishermen killed before butchering.”

This famed photo of the Loch Ness monster, allegedly taken decades ago by Colonel Robert Kenneth Wilson,
was later exposed as a hoax. Getty Images

This isn’t the first time a discovery has sparked rumors of the Loch Ness monster resurfacing.

In September, an Irish man who monitors newly installed, high-resolution webcams around Loch Ness in Scotland claimed he’d captured the “giant eel-like shapes” that make up Nessie.

Woman throws daughter into enclosure with live bear

Disturbing incident filmed at an Uzbek zoo shows the animal and the staff rushing to the toddler

In a blood-curdling incident captured on camera at a zoo in Uzbekistan’s capital city Tashkent on Friday, a young woman threw her three-year-old daughter into the enclosure of a massive brown bear.

CCTV footage from the scene showed the woman lifting the child into the air, putting her onto the fence of the enclosure and then pushing her into its five-meter-deep moat.

Zuzu the bear was visibly startled by the sudden invasion, rushing to check on the child as soon as she plunged into the moat. The animal approached the girl, sniffed her, and then walked away.

The predator was then promptly led away by the zoo’s staff, who hurried to extract the girl from the enclosure. While the infant was not harmed by the bear, she was hospitalized with injuries she suffered from her fall.

Uzbekistan’s prosecutors have launched a criminal probe into the incident, with the woman suspected of an attempted murder of a helpless person. If found guilty, she may face up to 15 years behind bars.

The woman, identified only as Z.T., had been known to the authorities, the country’s family ministry revealed Sunday. The 30-year-old had been receiving support over her crumbling marriage and suffered from depression, the ministry added. The woman’s husband is said to have been away, working in Russia.

Teen sentenced to 100 years over siblings’ deaths

Indiana teenager receives heavy sentence for murders of baby sister and brother

A teenager in the US state of Indiana has been sentenced to serve two consecutive 50-year prison terms for suffocating his baby stepbrother and half-sister to death in 2017, when he was just 13 years old. The judge who announced the sentence on Tuesday had insisted that the case against Nickalas Kedrowitz be tried in an adult court.

While the teen’s attorney had insisted his client had untreated mental health problems, Ripley County Prosecutor Richard Hertel pointed out that Kedrowitz had committed the crimes months apart, dismissing the notion that he had murdered his siblings in the “heat of passion.”

What kind of passion could we possibly be talking about?

Kedrowitz was convicted in August of murdering 11-month-old Nathaniel Ritz and 23-month-old Desiree McCartney in July 2017 and May 2017 respectively, at the family’s home in Osgood, Indiana. He was arrested in August 2018 and reportedly told detectives he was “freeing his siblings from hell and the chains of fire,” confessing to using a towel to suffocate his half-sister and a blanket to smother his stepbrother.

So, it was not mental illness, it was pure and simple demonic possession!

Questioned by investigators about what exactly the “hell” in question was, Kedrowitz answered “chores,” urging the authorities to look at the list of daily chores he was expected to complete. It’s not clear if they ever saw the list.

The teen’s uncle apparently told investigators that Ritz’s father had attacked Kedrowitz the day before he suffocated the infant boy, leaving the 13-year-old with a bloody nose. Shortly before killing his half-sister, the teen reportedly squeezed a kitten to death for allegedly scratching him.

According to an affidavit from Indiana state police, Kedrowitz told investigators he had “had a conversation with God about [his siblings’ deaths] but he could not talk about it because he had promised God he wouldn’t tell anyone.”

He, of course, wasn't God!

Kedrowitz’s own father is in prison on unrelated charges, while his mother cooperated with the investigation into her infant children’s deaths.

‘Remarkable’ images of our galaxy’s center revealed

A supermassive black hole lurking in the center of the Milky Way is the brightest spot

A new MeerKAT telescope image of the galactic center reveals the “complex heart” of the Milky Way, with astronomers saying they now have “the best insight yet into the population of mysterious ‘radio filaments’ found nowhere else.”

Released by the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory, the “remarkable” image is based on a mosaic of 20 separate observations, which took a total of 200 hours of MeerKAT telescope time to acquire.

A rare, almost-perfect spherical supernova remnant that has been discovered at the edge of the MeerKAT mosaic.

leaving a trailing wake. ©  Heywood, SARAO

The super-sensitive radio telescope consists of 64 antennas spread over a diameter of eight kilometers in the South African desert. It has allowed humanity to look into the center of the Milky Way, which, despite its relative closeness – it is just about 25,000 light-years away – is obscured by dust and gas and is very hard to penetrate.

The picture is dominated by the emission from the galactic center “super bubble,” which is traversed by many parallel radio-emitting magnetized threads astronomers call filaments.

The complex, cirrus-like emission from the Galactic centre super bubble dominates this image.
This is traversed by the Radio Arc, a complex of many parallel radio filaments.

One of the strands has been lovingly nicknamed “Mouse” by the scientists; another feature is being called “Snake.” The supermassive black hole Sagittarius A can be seen as the brightest spot.

The clarity and depth of the image give it significant scientific potential, the astronomers say.

In the centre of the image is the supernova remnant G359.1-0.5. To the left is ‘the Mouse’, a runaway pulsar
possibly formed and ejected by the supernova event. To the upper right is one of the longest
and most famous radio filaments, known as ‘the Snake’. ©  Heywood, SARAO

“Up to 100 light-years long, these unique structures have defied a conclusive explanation for their origin since discovery over 35 years ago. MeerKAT has discovered many more such filaments than were previously known, and the new data release will allow astronomers to study these objects as a population for the first time,” the report reads.

The astronomers admit their own fascination over the discoveries, with SARAO chief scientist Dr. Fernando Camilo saying that “the best telescopes expand our horizons in unexpected ways.” The lead author of the study, Dr. Ian Heywood, confessed that he never gets tired of looking at the picture.

UN names Moscow Best world city to live in

to claim the top spot

The UN has published its global cities ranking for 2022, and has awarded Moscow the top spot among large cities for quality of life and infrastructure, commending the metropolis for its transportation and its citizens’ well-being.

A draft of the report, the full version of which will be released in March, was made available online on Wednesday. Experts analyzed the 50 largest cities globally and ranked 29 “world cities” according to six metrics: productivity, infrastructure development, quality of life, equity and social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and urban governance and legislation.

The Russian capital came out first in terms of “quality of life” and “infrastructure development,” and was third overall in the “City Prosperity Index,” which considered all the categories together. The first and second spots were taken by Singapore and Toronto respectively, and the fourth and fifth by Sydney and London.

The report defines quality of life as “how an individual’s life or society’s condition is in comparison to another person or society, i.e. how good (or bad) someone’s life is compared to other individuals’ lives. Therefore, this is the measurement of a city’s average achievements for ensuring general well-being and satisfaction of its citizens.”

Infrastructure development is defined as “the set of basic physical systems, organizational structures, facilities, and installations needed for the functioning of a society, or economy. The prosperity of a city largely depends on the development of infrastructure, including transportation, communication, or provision of [basic] services, among others.”

Among the 29 cities, Moscow was ranked 12th for productivity, 13th for equity and social inclusion, 17th for environmental sustainability, and 10th for urban governance and legislation.

Around 20 million people officially live in the Russian capital and its surrounding region, though measurements of the population vary according to methodology. Some estimates suggest the real figure is substantially higher.

By any accepted measure, with at least 13 million inhabitants, Moscow city proper is the largest wholly within Europe, beating out London, St. Petersburg, Paris and Berlin.

Aussie spy agency says it won’t call out ‘Islamic’ terrorists,
but will say ‘religiously’ motivated attackers instead

Australia’s spy agency is shifting the focus on how it describes the enemies it hunts. From now on, the Australian Security Intelligence Agency (ASIO) will use the term ‘religiously motivated’ instead of ‘Islamic extremist.’

I'm not sure this is going to work. Muslims decry that extremism has nothing to do with Islam (even though almost all extremists are Muslim). So to call such people ‘religiously motivated’ seems to put all the blame on Islam! This will not go down well with Islam for very long.

“We don’t investigate people because of their religious views – it’s violence that is relevant to our powers – but that’s not always clear when we use the term ‘Islamic extremism’,” Mike Burgess, the director-general of ASIO said. “Understandably, some Muslim groups – and others – see this term as damaging and misrepresentative of Islam, and consider that it stigmatizes them by encouraging stereotyping and stoking division. Our language needs to evolve to match the evolving threat environment.”

How can the word 'extremist' encouraging stereotyping? Muslims want to disassociate themselves from extremists who are almost always Muslims, and Aussi and western governments and police forces seem only too willing to help them. Tell the truth: if they are Muslim jihadists, say so; if they are right-wing terrorists, say so.

Australia’s top spy also said his agency will no longer use the terms “far-left” or “far-right” to describe threats from the edges of the political spectrum – instead the ASIO will refer to “ideologically” motivated extremists.

The shift in ASIO’s war on words was detailed by Burgess, as he delivered the agency’s annual threat assessment from its highly secure headquarters in Canberra on Wednesday. ASIO is part of the Five Eyes international network of spy agencies that includes the US, the UK, Canada and New Zealand, sharing information and intelligence sources.

Other Five Eyes agencies have changed their nomenclature and ASIO is following suit, Burgess said.

Last year, Burgess was taken to task by Aussie Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, who claimed ASIO was upsetting conservatives by using the term “right-wing extremists.”

“Right is associated with conservatism in this country and there are many people of conservative background who take exception with being tarred with the brush,” Fierravanti-Wells said.

Burgess said ASIO had to change the language it uses because many of the people it watches – mostly male with an average age of 25 – don’t fit “traditional” labels. Instead, they are motivated by a fear of society collapsing, hold specific grievances, include involuntary celibate ‘incels’, or adhere to conspiracy theories. And he said that these cases made up 40% of ASIO’s work last year, up from 30% the year before.

And it has much to do with the government's determination to hide the fact that most terrorism is Islamic in origin. Most Terrorists are Muslim, yet the government and media work hard to protect the public from knowing the truth. This will just add to the distrust by far-right extremists.

Dagestan woman refused custody of her children after court determines she has ‘immoral’ lifestyle — because of tattoos & piercings

A woman in the Russian region of Dagestan is suing her ex-husband after he allegedly beat her for six years and then ran away with her children. She hasn't seen them since a court ruled she lives an "immoral" life due to tattoos.

Last summer, a court in Makhachkala, the capital of the majority-Muslim Russian republic, decided Nina Tseretilova shouldn’t have custody of her children because of her lifestyle, which “does not meet the norms.” The 33-year-old has piercings, tattoos, and dyed hair, and refuses to wear a hijab. The judge ruled in favor of her ex-husband, Magomed, who owes her 800,000 rubles ($11,000) in alimony.

The children had lived with their mother ever since their divorce, and the father played almost no role in their lives. However, when she demanded alimony payments from him through the courts, it was ruled that she was not fit to take care of them.

The judge’s decision was made on the basis of Tseretilova not following “the rules of behavior of a mother with many children,” and specifically that she has “tattoos with inscriptions depicted on her body.”

“I haven’t seen my children for three months. I don’t know their residential address or who they are with,” she told the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda. “They are not at his place of residence nor at school.”

Tseretilova is half-Russian and half-Avar – an ethnic group from the North Caucasus. In the West, the most famous Avar is Khabib Nurmagomedov, a former world champion mixed martial artist. She was born near Tver, a city near Moscow, where she lived until she was six. Two years later, her father’s relatives allegedly performed female circumcision on her in an Avar village. She entered an arranged marriage when she turned 14. According to the woman, she was regularly beaten by her husband and filed for divorce in 2012.

In early 2020, when she decided to sue for alimony, her ex-husband, who has a new family in Moscow, took their three children, she says. Five days later, they were returned after law enforcement intervened. Since then, he allegedly repeatedly took them out of school, and threatened to bring them to the capital.
Tseretilova believes his taking the children was a ploy to avoid paying alimony, and claims he does not work. When her case finally came before the court, she was shocked that the judge found against her and that she would be refused custody.

In December last year, her ex-husband once again took the children away to an unknown location. After she filed a claim to the police, they told her they could do nothing, as the court had ordered that they remain with their father.

He told a very different story. According to him, the children asked him to take them away. Tseretilova regularly went to nightclubs, staying out until the next morning, and wasn’t a responsible mother, he claimed. “I promised the children a long time ago that I would take them to my place,” he said.

Tseretilova has appealed, and the next hearing is scheduled to be heard imminently.
