Corruption is Everywhere > Chinese executive director sentenced to death for corruption; Ilhan Omar lost $30m but doesn't seem fazed at all

Chinese court sentences ex-official to death for decades of bribery

Yang Youlin,  South China Morning Post

July 7 (UPI) -- A Chinese court has sentenced a former executive deputy director of a government management committee to death for taking bribes worth more than $323.7 million in property over a 30-year period.

Yang Youlin, the 69-year-old former executive deputy director of the Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee, was sentenced by the Changzhou Intermediate People's Court over the scheme on Monday, the court said in a statement. All his personal property was also confiscated.

The court said he illegally accepted the bribes from corporations and individuals whom he helped "in matters including undertaking projects, business operations, land transfers and capital turnover" from 1993 through 2023.

He also received a number of sentences ranging from six months to 11 years and six months, along with fines, on related charges, including embezzlement, offering bribes, misappropriating public funds, abuse of power and money laundering.

Yang was sentenced after public hearings held March 18 and April 28, during which prosecutors presented evidence, and Yang's defense cross-examined evidence. According to the court, Yang made a final statement in which he pleaded guilty and expressed remorse over his actions.

The court said that although Yang exposed the criminal conduct of others, "considering the facts, nature and circumstances of his bribery offense and the degree of harm it caused to society, this was insufficient to warrant lenient punishment."

"The court said Yang's bribery amount was especially huge, the circumstances of his crimes were especially serious, the social impact was especially egregious and his actions caused especially major losses to the interests of the state and the people," the statement said.

"His crimes were extremely serious and, according to law, warranted the death penalty."

Yang was tried amid President Xi Jinping's yearslong anti-corruption campaign that, according to a March 2025 report from the United States' Office of the Director of National Intelligence, has seen nearly 5 million officials investigated and found guilty since 2012.

While ostensibly an anti-corruption campaign, the DNI report said that it targets "political indiscipline and ideological impurity," particularly at the highest levels of government, to preserve the Chinese Communist Party's domestic control and legitimacy.

China does not make its executions public but is widely believed to lead the world in this category.

In 2024, Li Jianping, a former Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region official, was executed for bribery and other related charges, including collusion with a criminal syndicate.

In late January 2021, China executed Lai Xiaomin, former board chairman of China Huarong Asset Management Co., after being found guilty of bribery, embezzlement and bigamy.

Ilhan Omar’s 30 Million Dollars Have Vanished Into Thin Air, and She Doesn’t Want to Talk About It

New in PJ Media:

Talk about bad luck. But the winsome and patriotic Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Mogadishu) is handling it with her customary equanimity and grace, and in doing so, is giving all of us a lesson in how to deal with adversity.

It seems, you see, that Ilhan Omar had $30 million, and now she doesn’t have it, but she doesn’t seem to be particularly concerned about where it went. Easy come, easy go, right? Allah giveth and Allah taketh away. And sometimes Allah moveth Ilhan Omar and her accountants, under the cloud of possible ethics charges, to try to explain away the disappearance of $30 million as a simple clerical error, the sort of thing anybody could do, you know, when you forget to carry the two or something. Truly, Allah’s ways are most wondrous, and mysterious to the eyes of mere mortals.

And it may be because of her overflowing piety that Omar simply doesn’t want to talk about the missing $30 million. She has more important things to do, after all. Above all, she has to serve her constituents. Omar has won praise from a former Somali prime minister for making her highest priority not “the interest of Minnesota, nor is it the interest of the American people, the interest of Ilhan is that of the Somali people and Somalia.”

The good folks of Somalia need honest, energetic representation, and that’s what Ilhan Omar is in Washington for. How can this selfless public servant be expected to turn her attention from the well-being of the Somali people to some piddling, impertinent questions about a few missing millions?

And so it was altogether fitting and proper that Omar should stonewall some insolent kuffar who tried to make a mountain out of this particular molehill. Fox News reported Thursday that Omar “refused to address her revised financial disclosures that could imply she has a negative net worth after the progressive lawmaker dramatically reduced the reported value of assets tied to her husband’s business ventures.”

The audacious infidel from Fox News Digital, no doubt a “white supremacist” as well as an “Islamophobe,” dared to ask Omar: “Can you tell us if your husband still has the consulting business and the wine business?” This was an important question for both Omar and her husband Tim Mynett (no, this one’s not her brother; that was an earlier husband). As Fox explains, “in Omar’s 2024 financial disclosure records, Mynett’s share in his winery was valued between $1 million and $5 million, and his share at the venture capital advisory firm was valued between $5 million and $25 million. Now, his equity interests are both listed at $0.”

There is more. Read the rest here.

Antisemitism > Like Mother, like daughter - Ilhan Omar's daughter suspended from college for antisemitism

Ilhan Omar’s daughter, Isra Hirsi, suspended from Barnard

College for her involvement in anti-Israel protests

Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s daughter, Isra Hirsi, revealed Thursday that she has been suspended from Barnard College over her involvement in disruptive anti-Israel protests on Columbia University’s Morningside campus at which scores of demonstrators were arrested.

“I just received notice that I am 1 of 3 students suspended for standing in solidarity with Palestinians facing a genocide,” the 21-year-old wrote on X.

“I’m an organizer with CU Apartheid Divest @ColumbiaSJP, in my 3 years at @BarnardCollege I have never been reprimanded or received any disciplinary warnings,” she added.

Hirsi was one of more than 100 protesters who were hauled away in cuffs by the NYPD Thursday afternoon after they erected a tent city on the campus of the $90,000-per-year Ivy League school.

By late afternoon Thursday the protests had dispersed, and cleaning crews were brought in to disassemble and remove dozens of tents that littered the campus.

As the daughter of a controversial and outspoken congresswoman, whose own eyebrow-raising statements have led to accusations of being anti-American and anti-Semitic, Hirsi has spent much of her life attending demonstrations.

She attended her first protest at age six, according to Vice. In 2015, at 12, Hirsi joined her family at a Black Lives Matter protest that forced Mall of America to shut down and required over 200 police officers, including 50 riot cops to restore order.

On Thursday, Hirsi and the two other students – identified as Maryam Iqbal and Soph Dinu — received notice of their suspension from Barnard Dean, Leslie Grinage, the anti-Israel student group Apartheid Divest said in a statement.

Muslim man who made threats in an Anderlecht hospital

will not ultimately be interned

Translated from “L’homme ayant proféré des menaces dans un hôpital d’Anderlecht ne sera finalement pas interné,”
November 19, 2022

The man who made threats Friday at the Saint-Anne Saint-Rémi hospital in Anderlecht will not ultimately be forcibly interned in a closed psychiatric establishment, reports the Brussels prosecutor’s office on Saturday evening...

The man, Hamza, 24, presented himself armed with a knife on Friday morning at the emergency department of the Brussels hospital. He shouted “Allahu Akbar” (“God is the greatest”), then declared that he was going to die but that he would come back to “kill everyone,” according to witnesses.

Gives a new meaning to the word 'ghosting'!

The individual then left without causing any casualties. However, the police took the threat very seriously and immediately organized a manhunt. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office had been informed, as well as all the other police zones in the capital and all the hospitals in the Brussels region. The police in his town of residence, Martelange, in the province of Luxembourg, had also been notified.

Friday evening, the man could finally be arrested in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode. According to the police, this arrest took place without problems.

Of course, every devout Muslim is probably insane, according to Syrian psychiatrist Dr Wafa Sultan. See Islamic Insanity on the sidebar of my other blog.

Kevin McCarthy to pull Ilhan Omar from Foreign Affairs

committee over antisemitism

"We watch antisemitism grow, not just on our campuses, but we watched it grow in the halls of Congress. I promised you last year that as speaker she will no longer be on Foreign Affairs, and I’m keeping that promise."

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said Saturday that when he becomes the speaker of the House of Representatives in January he plans to remove “Squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar, (D-MN), from the House Foreign Affairs Committee due to her "antisemitic" comments.

When the Republicans take the majority in the House next year, McCarthy will likely become the next speaker, pending a vote for the position on Jan. 3.

Speaking at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s 2022 leadership meeting in Las Vegas McCarthy pledged to the audience "We watch antisemitism grow, not just on our campuses, but we watched it grow in the halls of Congress. I promised you last year that as speaker she will no longer be on Foreign Affairs, and I’m keeping that promise."

The room erupted in cheers in response.

Since she was elected to Congress in 2018, Omar has had a history of making many comments against Jews and Israel and using antisemitic tropes. After being elected to Congress, she submitted a resolution to the House comparing boycotting the Jewish state of Israel to boycotting the Nazis.

In February 2021, 1,500 rabbis called on Congress to rescind the appointment of Rep. Ilhan Omar, (D-MN), to the position of vice chair of the House foreign affairs subcommittee based on her past anti-Semitic statements and behavior.

With her history, how did she get to be Vice-Chair of the committee? Democrats must like antisemites.

Omar has an extensive history of using anti-Semitic statements and tropes as well as promoting conspiracy theories about Jews. In a now-deleted tweet Omar wrote "Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel. #Gaza#Palestine#Israel"

In another now-deleted tweet, Omar said Jews were buying political support tweeting, "It's all about the Benjamins baby."

According to The Daily Wire, in an interview, Omar suggested: "Israel should not be allowed to exist as a Jewish state, Israel is not a democracy, and compared Israel to Iran — which is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism."

Not to mention murderer of women.

Omar also embraced the anti-Semitic heads of the Woman’s March which included Linda Sarsour.

In 2021, several House Republicans began working to remove Omar (D-MN), from her committee assignments in response to Democrats’ removal of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), from her committee assignments in the wake of revelations of her past anti-Semitic comments and posting of conspiracy theories.

McCarthy condemned remarks made by Greene last year including when she said, "Vaccinated employees get a vaccination logo just like the Nazis forced Jewish people to wear a gold star," which many viewed as minimizing the Holocaust

Democrats removed Greene from her committee assignments over the comments.

According to Fox News, McCarthy promised Greene he would reinstate her committee assignments when he's the speaker and Greene has stated that she plans to vote for him.

The Dems were right to remove Marjorie Greene but wrong to promote Omar. McCarthy would be right to remove Omar from her post, but wrong to put Greene back to her committee assignments. Is it possible for the Speaker to actually do the right thing instead of the political thing?
