Greenpeace Founder: Global Warming Hoax Pushed by Corrupt Scientists ‘Hooked on Government Grants’

Now understand one thing. He is not saying the planet isn't warming up, he is saying that the theory that it is anthropogenically driven is a construct to generate hysteria resulting in wealth and power to some.

The climate issue is the biggest threat to the Enlightenment that has occurred since Galileo.

Nothing else comes close to it. This is as bad a thing that has happened to science in the history of science.

Greenpeace co-founder and former president of Greenpeace Canada Patrick Moore described the cynical and corrupt machinations fueling the narrative of anthropocentric global warming and “climate change” in a Wednesday interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight with hosts Rebecca Mansour and Joel Pollak.

Moore explained how fear and guilt are leveraged by proponents of climate change:

Fear has been used all through history to gain control of people’s minds and wallets and all else, and the climate catastrophe is strictly a fear campaign — well, fear and guilt — you’re afraid you’re killing your children because you’re driving them in your SUV and emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and you feel guilty for doing that. There’s no stronger motivation than those two.

Scientists are co-opted and corrupted by politicians and bureaucracies invested in advancing the narrative of “climate change” in order to further centralize political power and control, explained Moore.

Moore noted how “green” companies parasitize taxpayers via favorable regulations and subsidies ostensibly justified by the aforementioned narrative’s claimed threats, all while enjoying propagandistic protection across news media”

And so you’ve got the green movement creating stories that instill fear in the public. You’ve got the media echo chamber — fake news — repeating it over and over and over again to everybody that they’re killing their children. And then you’ve got the green politicians who are buying scientists with government money to produce fear for them in the form of scientific-looking materials. And then you’ve got the green businesses, the rent-seekers, and the crony capitalists who are taking advantage of massive subsidies, huge tax write-offs, and government mandates requiring their technologies to make a fortune on this. And then, of course, you’ve got the scientists who are willingly, they’re basically hooked on government grants.

When they talk about the 99 percent consensus [among scientists] on climate change, that’s a completely ridiculous and false number. But most of the scientists — put it in quotes, scientists — who are pushing this catastrophic theory are getting paid by public money, they are not being paid by General Electric or Dupont or 3M to do this research, where private companies expect to get something useful from their research that might produce a better product and make them a profit in the end because people want it — build a better mousetrap type of idea. But most of what these so-called scientists are doing is simply producing more fear so that politicians can use it to control people’s minds and get their votes because some of the people are convinced, ‘Oh, this politician can save my kid from certain doom.’

The narrative of anthropogenic global warming or “climate change” is an existential threat to reason, warned Moore:

It is the biggest lie since people thought the Earth was at the center of the universe. This is Galileo-type stuff. If you remember, Galileo discovered that the sun was at the center of the solar system and the Earth revolved around it. He was sentenced to death by the Catholic Church, and only because he recanted was he allowed to live in house arrest for the rest of his life.

So this was around the beginning of what we call the Enlightenment, when science became the way in which we gained knowledge instead of using superstition and instead of using invisible demons and whatever else, we started to understand that you have to have observation of actual events and then you have to repeat those observations over and over again, and that is basically the scientific method.

“But this abomination that is occurring today in the climate issue is the biggest threat to the Enlightenment that has occurred since Galileo,” declared Moore. “Nothing else comes close to it. This is as bad a thing that has happened o science in the history of science.”

Moore concluded, “It’s taking over science with superstition and a kind of toxic combination of religion and political ideology. There is no truth to this. It is a complete hoax and scam.”

‘Valve Turner’ Climate Activist Guilty of Oil Pipeline Tampering, Faces 10yrs in Prison

A jury in Skagit County, Washington, has found climate activist Ken Ward guilty of burglary for his actions during a coordinated protest in October, where activists shut off pipelines carrying Canadian tar sand oil.

On Wednesday, Ward, 60, was found guilty of second degree burglary for closing a safety valve on the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline and blocking the flow of oil to the Anacortes refineries. The jury deadlocked on a second charge of sabotage. 

Ward faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000. His sentence hearing is set for June 22, according to Jay O'Hara, a fellow activist at the Climate Disobedience Center.

Ward's attorney said the defense team focused on conveying Ward's intentions to stop harm brought on by climate change.

"We sort of likened these actions to those of people who engaged in the Boston Tea Party and who risked their liberty," Lauren Regan told Vice News. "That in many ways, particularly in regards to Trump pulling out of the Paris Accord, and the fact that the government seems unable to adequately protect the public from exacerbating climate change, that it may be that the people are going to act on their own behalf to protect their communities and their futures."

This is the second time Ward has been tried for his actions. He initially faced three felony charges and one misdemeanor charge, which carried a 30 year sentence. In January, a different jury was unable to reach a verdict and a mistrial was declared. 

During his testimony in the first trial, Ward was able to show the jury evidence of the effects of climate change could have on the planet, according to an article he wrote for EcoWatch. 

However, during his retrial, Ward was not allowed to use the “necessity defense,” to show that his crimes were necessary to prevent a greater harm. 

“The judge did not allow us to offer what is called a necessity defense in which we would have been able to argue to the jury that yes, I did what I did, but I did it for this greater purpose dealing with this larger crisis,” Ward told Oregon Public Broadcasting.

It is easy enough to show that climate change is affecting the planet and much of it in a negative way. It is not so easy to show that man is the primary driver in climate change. That has been assumed by hyperbolic climate activists but it has certainly not been proven. In fact, there is good reason to believe that the primary driver in climate change is sunspot activity which is slowing down and should result in some cooling, or at least levelling off of the rising global temperature. Except for an exceptionally strong El Nino over the previous couple years, that appears to be the case.

If the temperature rises by half a degree or more over the next 15 years, then I will admit that anthropogenic CO2 is the primary driver. But I also have a problem trusting the data and the computer programs which are being kept secret from scientists who question their validity.

Having said that, it is obvious to anyone with a brain that the planet has been warming over the past century.

Ward added that he plans to appeal his case. 

Ward was one of five activists known as the “Valve Turners,” who took part in the #ShutItDown pipeline protests organized by the Climate Disobedience Center last October. Other activists carried out similar acts of civil disobedience in Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota, stopping all pipelines carrying oil from Canada’s tar sands to the US. 

Ward broadcast the act live on Facebook, with footage showing him cutting two chains to enter the valve site and closing the valve as part of a coordinated protest. 

Following his arraignment last October, Ward released a statement that said his direct action was the only effective way to stop the effects of climate change. 

"I am a responsible and law abiding citizen," Ward said. "I did these things because I believe that it is the obligation of every thinking person to find a way to stave off climate cataclysm, and there is no effective, legal alternative to personal direct action."

There is an example of hyperbolic terminology used by climate activists. The world will not come to an end in this century if the temperature rises a degree or two. In 2015, I predicted a rise in global temperature of less than one degree by the end of the 21st century. 

There are many other reasons for the world to come to an end, reasons far more valid and much more urgent than global warming. The extremely aggressive build-up of military along the European borders with Russia; the mad rush to buy hundreds of billions of dollars in arms by countries that ought not to have them; the extraordinary amount of poverty; the completely unrecognized level of child sex abuse that is destroying a generation; and the Muslim invasion of Europe are all far more urgent and extreme matters than climate change.

I criticize North Korea for spending billions of dollars on weapons to feed their communist paranoia while much of their population is starving, yet, here we are in the developed world using hundreds of billions of dollars on weapons research and development and on environmental R&D, while our neighbours are starving and selling their children because they can't afford to feed them.  Half a million children in Brazil have to prostitute themselves to get enough to eat and we are building bombs and protesting pipelines. What insanity!

The Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline has experienced over 80 spills in the past 70 years, including two that exceeded more than 1,000 barrels of oil, according to data from TransMountain.

Heat Record: 2015 was Hottest Year by Huge Margin, Sort of

Caution: there is a lot more hot air in this article than just the global temperature!

2015's global average temperature was the hottest ever by the widest margin on record, NASA and NOAA reported Wednesday.

Last year wasn't just the Earth's hottest year on record — it left a century of high temperature marks in the dust.

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration and NASA announced Wednesday that 2015 was by far the hottest year in 136 years of record keeping.

NOAA said 2015's average temperature was 
14.79 degrees Celsius (58.62 degrees Fahrenheit), passing 
2014 by a record margin of 0.16 C (0.29 F). 
That's 0.90 C (1.62 F) above the 20th-century average. NASA, which measures differently, said 2015 was 0.13 C (0.23 F) warmer than the record set in 2014.

Because of the wide margin over 2014, NASA calculated that 2015 was a record with 94 per cent certainty, about double the certainty it had last year when announcing 2014 as a record.

Just want to point out that measuring the temperature of the earth's surface is an extremely complex process. That NASA and NOAA use different methods of calculating the global temperature and still come up with similar results should inspire a little confidence. 

The 94% certainty announced by NASA ought to also inspire some confidence although one wonders why the process requires a certainty rating in the first place. It would imply a certain amount of 'estimation' or perhaps, 'guesstimation' involved in the calculations. Such estimations could be influenced by the hope of a desired outcome.

4th record in 11 years

Although 2015 is now the hottest on record, it was the fourth time in 11 years that Earth broke annual marks for high temperature.

"It's getting to the point where breaking record is the norm," Texas Tech climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe said. "It's almost unusual when we're not breaking a record."

Scientists blame a combination of El Nino and increasing man-made global warming.

Michael Mann of Pennsylvania State University said a strong El Nino, like this year's, can add about a third of a degree of warming to Earth's temperature.

This year's El Nino is currently the 2nd strongest on record (since 1950) and is very close to the strongest El Nino on record in 1997/98. That event caused a temperature rise of about 2/3rds of a degree above the norm, and above the 1997 temperature, not 1/3rd.

This year's increase of 0.16 or 0.13 degrees above the 2014 temperature is 1/6th to 1/8th of a degree. For such a strong El Nino, one might have expected more. 

Certainly, El Nino is not done yet and there is a bit of a lag in temperatures, so 2016 may well make up some of that short-fall; it will be interesting to watch. But as with all El Nino events, the temperature will drop the following year to normal levels leaving 2017 to be a cool year.

"Records will happen during El Nino years due to the extra warming boost they provide," Mann said in an email. "That boost of warmth however sits upon the ramp of global warming."

He's correct here, certainly, although the statement, "increasing man-made global warming", has yet to be proven. That ANY global  warming is anthropogenic has yet to be proven. Since only 3-4% of all CO2 that enters the atmosphere is caused by man's activities, any influence on the global temperature could only be very slight, if at all.

Prof Murry Salby has clearly shown that increased CO2 in the atmosphere is a consequence of increased temperature, not the other way about. That is, increased CO2 follows increased temperature because most CO2 comes out of the ground and its production increases with the temperature of the ground, and to a lesser degree, the moisture content.

And it's likely to happen this year, too. NASA scientists and others said there's a good chance that this year will pass 2015 as the hottest year on record, thanks to El Nino.

"2015 will be difficult to beat, but you say that almost every year and you get surprised," said Victor Gensini, a meteorology professor at the College of DuPage outside of Chicago.

Measurements from Japan and the University of California at Berkeley also show 2015 is the warmest on record. Satellite measurements, which scientists say don't measure where we live and have a larger margin of error, calculate that last year was only the third hottest since 1979.

Satellite measurements are used to calculate the temperature of the lower atmosphere and not just the surface of the earth. There are many issues affecting the accuracy of these calculations which is why it has a larger margin of error. Nevertheless, it is curious that satellite measurements found 2015 to be only the 3rd warmest year on record.
