Le Havre.  In court, he had threatened to "cut out the police and the judiciary"
The man was well known to the court for different cases, including similar facts

The atmosphere was strange to say the least, Monday, January 23, at the time of the immediate appearance of a 45-year-old homeless man. He was appearing for death threats and threats of recidivism… against representatives of the judicial system.

On Wednesday, January 18, while carrying out an administrative procedure within the courthouse, the man suddenly attacked the staff present, saying that he was going to come back  "with the sword of Allah" to  "cut the police and justice." During his hearings in police custody at the Le Havre police station and then the hearing in immediate appearance on Monday, the man made several references to divine judgment and the afterlife.

He was already well known to the court for different cases, including similar facts of threats against law enforcement officials. He asked to stay in the jails and did not return to the box when his sentence was pronounced: 24 months in prison with continued detention.

Blast rips through police mosque in northwest Pakistan,

killing at least 32

by Haq Nawaz Khan,
Washington Post,
January 30, 2023:

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — An explosion ripped through a mosque in a police compound in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, bringing down the roof and killing at least 32 people, according to a hospital.

Muhammad Asim, a spokesman for the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, said there were at least 32 dead and 147 wounded, mostly policemen, and the toll is expected to rise as rescuers work through the mosque debris.

Police officials have not yet determined whether it was a suicide attack or the explosives were planted. “The rescue teams are busy in removing the debris. Once the debris is removed, then we would be in a position to say whether it was a suicide or not,” said Alam Khan, a spokesman for the Peshawar police.

The explosion went off during afternoon prayers in the mosque while at least 150 people were inside.

“We were lined up for the afternoon prayer and as the prayer leader said ‘Allahu Akbar’ a huge blast took place. Nothing was clear and visible as part of the roof of the mosque collapsed,” police inspector Mushtaq Khan said by telephone from the hospital.

The attackers behind the incident “have nothing to do with Islam,” said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a statement strongly condemning the blast. “Terrorists want to create fear by targeting those who perform the duty of defending Pakistan."

"Nothing to do with Islam." That's why they blew up a mosque with worshippers inside. This has everything to do with Islam as this sort of madness has been happening for 1400 years.

A 30-year-old man is in police custody after stabbing three people at a Metro station in Brussels, Belgium.

As confirmed by the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office this evening, Monday, January 30, a 30-year-old man is in police custody after stabbing three people. The incident occurred in the Schuman metro station in the Belgian capital of Brussels.

One of those attacked is said to be in critical condition, with two others injured. The knife attack took place in the station located right underneath the European Commission headquarters in the city.

Prosecutors bizarre conclusion

The Prosecutor’s Office said that terrorism is not suspected as a motive. This was contradicted by other witness reports that claimed the suspect shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ before committing the attacks.

According to euronews.com, the emergency services received a request for two ambulances to be deployed at 17:48 local time. Police officers descended on the location and the suspect was subsequently detained.

STIB-MIVB, the city’s public transport company, confirmed that the station had been closed to the public in the aftermath of the incident.

Philippe Close, the mayor of Brussels tweeted: “Knife attack in Schuman station: cooperation with various federal police forces and @zpz_polbru ensured that the perpetrator could be quickly arrested”.

A witness told Euronews the assault unfolded inside a metro car when the attacker stabbed a woman with a knife and asked passengers to exit.

An eyewitness named Salaheddine told Euronews: “I got into the metro carriage, the doors closed and then one moment I saw a crowd of people coming out shouting”.

He continued: “What happened was that it was a man with a knife. He stabbed, as I understand it, a woman and then he wanted to attack us. What he wanted, mainly, was for us to get out of the carriage and for him to be alone while waiting for the police”.

“But despite everything, as you know, in this station there are many strains, etc, so people, passengers, get out and therefore find themselves in front of this gentleman and so he becomes a little violent”, he added.

“Emotion in the European district. Warm thoughts for the victims. Thanks to the security forces @zpz_polbru”, tweeted the president of the European Council, Charles Michel. His offices are located in the building directly above the Metro station where the attacks took place.

The Great Reset - Jordan Peterson's take on the WEF

..

JORDAN PETERSON EXPOSES THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM

written by Avi Abelow

Israel Unwired

Why are global leaders and institutions so crazy about climate change? Is it really about caring about the world or is it something else?

Global thought-leader Jordan Peterson breaks it down to highlight that it is definitely something else.

Once people internalize that the whole agenda of climate change has nothing to do with saving humanity or the world, they then jump back to the original question, so why are global leaders and institutions so crazy about climate change?

Well, Peterson’s analysis brings us back to an extremely important conclusion of a US thought-leader from the 20th century…

It is imperative that people internalize this important quote from American editor, essayist, and philologist H. L Mencken written in the Minority Report, 1956 –

“The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule”

(Minority report: H. L. Mencken’s Notebooks by Henry Louis Mencken, Entry 369, Page 247, Alfred A. Knopf, New York.)

Once that simple fact is internalized, it gives us a totally new paradigm on how to understand all that is going on around us.

Palestinian gunman kills 7, injures 10 (3?) near Jerusalem synagogue

By Bruce Golding
January 27, 2023 3:25pm  Updated

A Palestinian gunman killed seven worshippers outside a Jerusalem synagogue Friday night in apparent retaliation for an Israeli military raid in the West Bank a day earlier.

The Sabbath-eve slaughter, which also left three wounded, marked the deadliest attack on Israelis in more than a decade.

One of the slain victims was a 70-year-old woman and several others were in their 60s. A 15-year-old boy was among the wounded.

News of the bloodshed sparked celebrations by Palestinians in both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, where people fired bullets into the air, shouted “God is great!” and handed out sweets.

In addition to the carnage in Neve Yaakov, a religious Jewish settlement in east Jersualem, a barrage of rockets was fired into Israel from Gaza, prompting a series of Israeli airstrikes.

But no casualties were reported from those attacks, which appeared to be intentionally limited so they wouldn’t provoke an all-out war.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters that he’d held a security assessment and decided on “immediate actions,” with his Security Cabinet to discuss any further response on Saturday night, after the end of Sabbath.

Netanyahu said Israel would act with “determination and composure
but declined to elaborate.

He also called on the public to not seek out vigilante justice.

Friday’s violence came after nine people, including seven Palestinian militants and a 61-year-old woman, were killed during an Israeli raid in the town of Jenin.

That incident marked the deadliest single raid in the West Bank in two decades and was followed by the fatal shooting of a 10th Palestinian during fighting in Jerusalem.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the shooting but a spokesman for the Hamas terrorist group that runs Gaza called it “a revenge and natural response” to the Israeli raid in Jenin.

Israeli police said the Jerusalem shooter fled in a car after opening fire and was killed during a gun battle after cops chased him down.

He was identified as a 21-year-old east Jerusalem resident who apparently acted alone.

But Jerusalem Police Chief Doron Turjeman vowed an “aggressive and significant” investigation to find any accomplices.

Those killed included five men and two women, including several who were 60 or older, according to Israel’s MADA rescue service.

A wounded, 15-year-old boy was recovering after surgery, according to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital.

The attack came ahead of a planned Sunday visit to the region by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the US strongly condemned the shootings and was “shocked and saddened by the loss of life.”

Jean-Pierre also noted that the killings came on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

“The United States will extend our full support to the government and people of Israel,” she said.

Fulani Herdsmen Kill Farmer, Son, Abduct Others

January 24, 2023

The victims were gruesomely murdered in their farms in what was described as an unprovoked attack.

Fulani Herdsmen

Palpable tension has gripped residents of the Toru-Angiama community in Patani Local Government Area of Delta State as suspected herdsmen on Monday hacked a man and his son to death.

It was gathered that the deceased persons were found lifeless in their farms and were discovered to have been butchered to death by the attackers.

One other member of the community sustained gunshot wounds while several others were said to have been abducted by the herdsmen.

According to residents of the area, the herders had been intimidating and harassing them in the area in recent times.

“Fulani herdsmen on Monday invaded Toru-Angiama in Patani LGA, Delta state and killed a man and son.

“The man identified as Egbejule and his son had gone to their farm when they met the herdsmen destroying their crops,” a villager told SaharaReporters.

The genocide by Islamic murderous gangs has now reached into the southernmost parts of Nigeria. The government must be very happy.

'Toadzilla' world's biggest? Australian rangers find

'monster' 2.7 kg cane toad

Guinness World Records lists the largest toad at 2.65 kg

SYDNEY: Australian rangers have killed an invasive "monster" cane toad discovered in the wilds of a coastal park - a warty brown specimen as long as a human arm and weighing 2.7 kilograms (6 pounds).

The toad was spotted after a snake slithering across a track forced wildlife workers to stop as they were driving in Queensland's Conway National Park, the state government said.

"I reached down and grabbed the cane toad and couldn't believe how big and heavy it was," ranger Kylee Gray said, describing how she discovered the amphibian last week.

"A cane toad that size will eat anything it can fit into its mouth, and that includes insects, reptiles and small mammals," she said.

The animal was taken away and euthanised.

Cane toads were introduced into Queensland in 1935 to control the cane beetle, with devastating consequences for other wildlife.

At 2.7 kilograms - nearly the weight of a newborn human baby - the toad may be a record breaker, the Queensland Department of Environment and Science said in a statement.

Describing it as a "monster", the department said it could end up in the Queensland Museum.

Due to its size, rangers believe it was a female.

What kind of sexist remark is that?

While the age is unknown, "this one has been around a long time," Gray said, explaining that the amphibians can live as long as 15 years in the wild.

Female cane toads can produce up to 30,000 eggs in a season, and the animals are incredibly poisonous, causing local extinctions of some of their predators.

Farrukhabad: It was mathematics that led to a wedding being called off in Uttar Pradesh's Farrukhabad district.

A 21-year-old bride called off her wedding when the groom failed to count currency notes.

The shocking revelation came during the marriage rituals when the priest grew 'doubtful of the man's behaviour' and informed the girl's family.

The bride immediately walked off from the dais which led to a verbal spat between the two families and the police were called.

The bride's family claimed that until the day of the marriage, they were unaware that the 23-year-old groom was 'mentally weak'.

The bride's brother, said, "Marriages usually happen in good faith and the mediator was a close relative, so we trusted him and did not meet the guy. When the priest told us about his odd behaviour, we decided to conduct a test and gave him 30 currency notes of Rs 10 to count which he could not. After knowing about his condition, she refused to marry him."

After the girl called off the wedding, a heated argument ensued between the two families. The matter reached the police who tried to mediate but the bride was not willing to give in so the baraat had to return.

Great white decapitates diver in first fatal shark attack of 2023: report

A 19-foot great white shark decapitated a diver this month as he harvested shellfish off Mexico, reportedly marking the first fatal shark attack of the year.

The horrific tragedy occurred Jan. 5 while Manuel Lopez, 53, was gathering ax tripe — a type of mollusk — in Tobari Bay in Benito Juárez, Sonora, Tracking Sharks reported. He was said to have been diving to the ocean floor without an oxygen tank to nab the critters, which typically reside at depths of 36 to 59 feet.

Lopez’s shellfishing expedition was cut short when the shark bit his head clean off, according to Tracking Sharks.

“He was diving when the animal attacked him, impressively ripping off his head and biting both shoulders,” eyewitness Jose Bernal told the outlet.

A great white shark named Brutus is shown off Guadalupe Island in Mexico on Nov. 29, 2021.
ZUMAPRESS.com

The attack follows an increase in local shark sightings that have area fishermen on high alert. “Local divers had been warned about the presence of sharks in the area, and most had not been out for several days,” said Bernal.

However, Lopez, who was reportedly in need of money, saw an opportunity to make a killing due to the shellfish shortage. He allegedly decided to ignore the warnings and embark on what would be his final fishing trip.

It’s unclear what prompted the apex predator to attack, however, the shark could’ve been attracted to the turbulence and sounds generated by Lopez while he was harvesting mollusks, Tracking Sharks reported.

Humans are also often mistaken for seals while wearing wetsuits, which can prompt sharks to take “experimental” bites. And while the creatures generally move on after realizing the victim isn’t their preferred prey, this exploratory nibble can prove catastrophic due to the shark’s rows of serrated, meat-shearing teeth.

Divers are more likely to be mistaken for seals come December and January, when great white sharks are most prevalent in the Gulf of California, Tracking Sharks noted. Pregnant female sharks are said to be searching for fat-filled sea lions during that time.

Russell George Atkins was a Vancouver Canucks fan until the very end.

Unfortunately, being a fan of the NHL team means being disappointed all your life – three trips to the Stanley Cup finals in 52 years (and most likely 53) and no Stanley Cups.

A memorial for Atkins was placed on the Campbell River Mirror’s website Jan. 13 and concluded with the ultimate epitaph for the sadsack team which in recent weeks has piled more embarrassment on a rich legacy of disappointment with the very public firing of fan-favourite coach Bruce Boudreau during another losing season.

The loving tribute to Atkins concluded with a reflection of his unending wait for the ultimate hockey prize for his favourite team:

“Russell would’ve liked to have had 6 of the Vancouver Canucks to be his pallbearers so they could have let him down one more time.”

Deep State > CIA, FBI, JFK, Watergate, Nixon - Who's Running America, anyway?

..

So, Did the CIA Engineer Watergate to Get Rid of Nixon?

JAN 24, 2023 7:00 AM
BY ROBERT SPENCER
New in PJ Media:

Tucker Carlson made some explosive assertions Friday, suggesting that the CIA and the FBI brought down Richard Nixon because he was on to their efforts to undermine the American system as the Founding Fathers had intended it to run and knew that the CIA was involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Carlson’s segment quickly became wildly controversial, but is it true? We may never know for sure — and that in itself demonstrates yet again the need to demand and enforce complete transparency and accountability from these agencies that all too easily can go rogue.

Carlson said: “Richard Nixon was re-elected in 1972 by the largest margin of the popular vote ever recorded before or since. Nixon got 17 million more votes than his opponent. Less than two years later, he was gone. He was forced to resign and in his place, an obedient servant of the federal agencies called Gerald Ford took over the White House.” Carlson went on to explain that Nixon believed that “elements in the federal bureaucracy were working to undermine the American system of government and had been doing that for a long time. He often said that.” He suggested that CIA and FBI operatives orchestrated both the Watergate break-in and the two-year-long firestorm that brought Nixon down.

According to Carlson, “on June 23, 1972, Nixon met with the then–CIA director, Richard Helms, at the White House. During the conversation, which thankfully was tape-recorded, Nixon suggested he knew ‘who shot John,’ meaning President John F. Kennedy. Nixon further implied that the CIA was directly involved in Kennedy’s assassination, which we now know it was. Helms’s telling response? Total silence, but for Nixon, it didn’t matter because it was already over. Four days before, on June 19, the Washington Post had published the first of many stories about a break-in at the Watergate office building.” This doesn’t add up to the CIA deciding to take out Nixon, since the break-in and the Post story both happened before the president’s conversation with Helms, unless Nixon had enunciated this before the break-in.

And he had. Tucker Carlson actually got the date wrong. The Nixon/Helms conversation didn’t take place on June 23, 1972, but on Oct. 8, 1971 (it’s further mislabeled on this audio file as taking place on Oct. 10, 1971, but the Nixon tape logs set the meeting on the 8th). Nixon said to Helms: “Uh, Who shot John [JFK]? Uh, is Eisenhower to blame? Is Johnson to blame? Is Kennedy to blame? Is Nixon to blame? Etcetera etcetera etcetera. [This] may become, may become, not by me, but may become a very, very, uh, vigorous issue. If it does, uh, I need to know what is necessary to protect our inquiries, the intelligence gathering and the Dirty Tricks Department. And I will protect it. Hey listen, I’ve done more than my share of lying to protect it. I will do it and I believe it’s totally right to do it.”

There is more. Read the rest here.

Resignations rock Ukraine government amid corruption crackdown

War with Russia will be child's play in comparison with war on the oligarchs of one of the most corrupt countries in the world.

Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky embarked on a reshuffle of his administration on Tuesday after the government was rocked by a corruption scandal that saw his deputy head of office and at least 10 other officials quit.

The most senior official to go was Kyrylo Tymoshenko, who oversaw regional policy and worked on Zelensky's election campaign. He was followed by six deputy ministers and five regional governors, a liaison for Zelensky's cabinet informed parliament.

Tymoshenko, who was the subject of stories in the Ukrainian press alleging he led a lavish lifestyle that included access to luxury sports cars, denied any wrongdoing.

In the 11 months since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Tymoshenko became the unofficial face of the Ukrainian war effort, appearing on television frequently in the role of spokesman.

Deputy Defense Minister Vyacheslav Shapovalov quit after allegations emerged that he had presided over purchase of food for the military at inflated prices. The defense department said it was a "technical mistake" and that no money had changed hands.

Shapovalov quit after a Ukrainian news website published an investigation into the matter on Monday.

His boss, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov, sought to play down the news, alleging there had been a mixup due to a technical error by the procurement contractor.

An investigation was opened by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine.

Do these people have a suicide pact?

In his nightly address Monday, Zelensky said he had ''already made personnel decisions -- some today, some tomorrow -- regarding officials of various levels in ministries and other central government bodies, in the regions and in the law enforcement system."

He also announced an immediate ban on officials traveling abroad in which he warned that government servants who did not adhere to the rules would be fired.

''It applies to law enforcers, people's deputies, prosecutors and all those who are supposed to work for the state and in the state,'' Zelensky said.

''If they want to rest now, they will rest outside the civil service. Officials will no longer be able to travel abroad for vacation or for any other non-governmental purpose.''

Ukrainian men of military-age men are banned by law from traveling outside the country without special permission.

Other resignations included Deputy Prosecutor General Oleskiy Symonenko; Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories Ivan Lukeryu; Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories Vyacheslav Negoda; and Deputy Minister for Social Policy Vitaliy Muzychenk.

The regional governors of Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Sumy and Kherson also quit their posts.

The resignations come just one week after Oleksiy Arestovych, another top Zelenskyy adviser, quit for falsely stating on national television that Ukrainian forces had shot down a rocket that then struck a Dnipro apartment building on Jan. 14, killing 46 civilians.

Why would he possibly say that if it were not true? It is definitely not part of the anti-Russian narrative.

"Allahu Akbar": Somali deliberately kills German men

January 23, 2023
JF-Online

"Allahu Akbar" and a massacre with two dead: A Somali deliberately stabs German men, as the prosecutor announces. He cuts off an arm and throws it onto his ex-girlfriend's balcony.

LUDWIGSHAFEN – The public prosecutor's office in Frankenthal in Rhineland-Palatinate has announced the background to a terrible bloody deed in the Ludwigshafen district of Oggersheim. On October 18, 2022, a Somali man brutally stabbed two men while shouting "Allahu Akbar" and seriously injured another.

The asylum seeker committed the murders because his girlfriend had left him: "He was convinced that she had a new life partner,"
said Frankenthal's chief public prosecutor Hubert Ströber of the Bild newspaper. During his bloodlust, the 26-year-old "was aware that both victims and his former partner were not acquainted".

The deeds were therefore done out of fundamental hatred of German men. The first victim was 20-year-old Jonas S, who happened to be walking past him. He stabbed the painter with a knife with a 20-centimetre-long blade, "using his suspicion and helplessness," as the prosecutor said.

Somali stabs head and severes arm

When the 20-year-old's colleague rushed to help, the Somali rammed the murder weapon into the neck of 35-year-old Sascha K. - "with the intent to kill," according to the public prosecutor. The man didn't stand a chance and died. He then attacked the 20-year-old again, allegedly stabbed his head with incredible brutality and then severed his right forearm. He then threw the body part on the balcony of his former partner.

The perpetrator then went into a drugstore and stabbed a 27-year-old customer who was standing at the checkout in the chest. Despite his serious injuries, the German dragged himself onto the street. Police officers who had been summoned there provided first aid and stopped the asylum seeker with four shots from their service weapons.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the Somali gave the details of the crime to a psychiatric expert. Accordingly, out of anger and jealousy, he "deliberately wanted to kill German men". The doctor has so far considered the man to be guilty. Prosecutors have filed charges of double murder and aggravated assault. It is not yet clear when the trial will begin.

Madness is inherent in devout Muslims. Their tipping point can be triggered in a moment. His use of the phrase Allahu Akbar makes it difficult for German authorities to ignore the terrorist aspect of this maniac.

German officials say knifeman who stabbed two people to death and

wounded seven others in brutal train rampage is a stateless Palestinian

By RACHAEL BUNYAN FOR MAILONLINE
PUBLISHED: 10:33 EST, 25 January 2023 | UPDATED: 15:09 EST, 25 January 2023

At least two people have been killed and seven more injured in a stabbing rampage on a train in Germany today.

The attacker sparked chaos as he lunged at horrified passengers on board the train from Kiel to Hamburg shortly before 3pm, sending commuters screaming down the carriages as they tried to escape his onslaught.

The bloodbath came to an end when the suspect, a 33-year-old stateless Palestinian man according to officials, was tackled by cops and arrested on a station platform in the town of Brokstedt.

A police spokesman said the investigation into a motive was focused on 'all directions' including possible extremism or psychological problems on the part of the assailant.

Muslim extremism and psychological problems go hand in hand. You cannot be an extreme Muslim and not have psychological problems.

Three of the seven injured passengers are in a serious condition following the attack condemned as a 'horrible act against all humanity' by regional interior minister Sabine Suetterlin-Waack.

Two people have been killed and several others injured after a man launched a knife attack on a train
in Germany today. Pictured: The scene

A passenger said people in his train carriage panicked when three hysterical girls ran into their carriage and screamed that the attacker had stabbed people further down the train.

The attacker is believed to have fled the train once it stopped at the station and continued to stab people on the platform before being tackled by police officers, reports Bild.

The 33-year-old knifeman has not been identified but he is believed to be a Palestinian refugee from Gaza.

He is also in hospital receiving treatment under police guard after he reportedly stabbed himself amid his attack on fellow passengers. The suspect reportedly had a temporary residence permit with him during the attack.

Regional interior minister Sabine Suetterlin-Waack condemned the attack as a 'horrible act against all humanity'.

'It is terrible,' Suetterlin-Waack told German public broadcaster NDR. 'We are shocked and horrified that something like this has happened.

'For me it is clear that the horrible act is against all humanity,' the interior minister said, adding her 'thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims'.

Suetterlin-Waack is on her way to the scene of the attack 'working closely together' to determine a motive.

There is large-scale emergency operation at the scene, with nine ambulances, three emergency and rescue helicopter all at the station to treat the passengers.

Police have closed the station and forensic teams were seen working at the scene.

Police were investigating at the train station in Brokstedt, the German railway Deutsche Bahn said on Twitter, adding that some services between Hamburg and Kiel had been cancelled.

Germany has been hit in recent years by several deadly knife attacks, some carried out by extremists and others by people suffering from serious psychological problems.

Again, it's the same thing!

A Syrian jihadist was given a life sentence in May 2021 for stabbing a German man to death and severely wounding his partner in a homophobic attack in the eastern city of Dresden.

A German court in December sentenced a Syrian-born man to 14 years in prison for an Islamist knife attack on a train in which he injured four passengers.

Last year a German court committed a Somali man to a psychiatric hospital after he stabbed three people to death in the southern city of Wuerzburg in 2021.

And if he ever gets out, he will do it again!

A Moroccan kills a sacristan and wounds a priest in an attack

shouting "Allah!" against two churches in Algeciras

The attacker, already detained, would have injured three other people.

The facts are being investigated as a terrorist act by the National Court.

1/25/2023 - 21:15

A North African man armed with a machete has killed one person and injured four others in attacks on several churches in Algeciras. The attack took place around 7:30 p.m. this Wednesday and is being investigated by the National Court as a case of terrorism. According to legal sources cited by Efe, the attacker would have shouted "Allah!".

According to Europa Sur, the deceased is Diego Valencia, sacristan of the church of La Palma. The images show his body covered by a thermal blanket in the Plaza Alta in Algeciras.

In addition, one of the injured is Antonio Rodríguez, parish priest of the San Isidro chapel of the Church of Santa María Auxiliadora, who has been stabbed and has undergone surgery at the hospital, although fortunately there is no fear for his life. Antonio Rodríguez, 74, was celebrating the seven o'clock Eucharist at that moment.

According to information provided by the Ministry of the Interior, the attack began after 7:00 p.m., when the terrorist entered the Church of San Isidro armed with a machete and attacked the priest, seriously wounding him. It would have been there that he would also have injured three other people.

Then he went to the church of Nuestra Señora de la Palma, about five minutes from the previous one. There he caused various damage by throwing images, crosses and candles to the ground and attacked the sacristan, who managed to leave the temple, but was hit outside by the assailant, who hit him on the head with a machete after wounding him in the abdomen, according to the eyewitnesses cited by Europa Sur .

Investigation sources have assured that the attacker is Yasin Kanzaa, of Moroccan nationality and about 40 years old. He has been arrested and is in police custody. The police have distributed a video with images of the attacker inside a police station.

The National Court has opened an investigation for an alleged terrorist attack. The investigation has fallen to the Central Court of Instruction Number 6 , which is the one that was on duty.

Consternation in the political class

Politicians and institutions have shown their regret for the events on Wednesday night through messages on Twitter. The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has shown his dismay at the attacks committed this afternoon in Algeciras. My condolences to the family of the deceased sacristan and my wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured".

Santiago Abascal, for his part, has not limited himself to giving his "deepest condolences to relatives and relatives of the victim", but has added that "we cannot tolerate Islamism advancing on our soil". Along the same lines, the general secretary of Vox, Ignacio Garriga , has pronounced that jihadism "today claims the life of a sacristan, a few years ago it claimed women and children in Barcelona and Tarragona. We must fight them ".

For his part, the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has described the crime as "terrible and heartbreaking" and has also wanted to ensure that "intolerance will never have a place in our society."

Also on Twitter , Pedro Sánchez wanted to "transfer my most sincere condolences to the relatives of the sacristan who died in the terrible attack in Algeciras." In addition, he has wished a "speedy recovery" to the injured and has transferred "all our support to the work being carried out by the State Security Forces and Bodies."

The lack of reaction from the members of Podemos in the Government is striking: neither Ione Belarra nor Irene Montero —nor Yolanda Díaz or Alberto Garzón— have made any assessments of the serious attack.

On his own behalf and on behalf of the entire municipal corporation, the mayor of Algeciras, José Ignacio Landaluce, has conveyed his sorrow for the death of the sacristan Diego Valencia, has decreed a day of official mourning and has called a rally for this Thursday at 12:00 p.m. noon.

The general secretary of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE), Francisco César García Magán, has also expressed himself in this sense, who has written that he received the news "with pain". "In these sad moments of suffering, we join the pain of the family of the victims and the diocese of Cadiz and ask the God of life and peace for the speedy recovery of the injured," he commented.

Finally, in statements to Europa Press, the secretary of the Islamic Commission of Spain, Mohamed Ajana, expressed his "deepest condolences" to the victims of the terrorist attack: "The CIE expresses its deepest condolences and support for the victims of the attack on the two churches in Algeciras" he said, also pointing out that "the believer should feel, in a place of worship, that he is in an oasis of peace that should not be disturbed under any circumstances". In addition, he has shown his confidence that "the attacker will be brought to justice" and has wished that the attack "does not disturb social peace in the municipality of Algeciras."

Yeah! Good luck with that!

A massive gun battle broke out in the Palestinian Authority-administered city of Jenin Thursday morning, after Israeli security forces entered the city as part of a counter-terror operation aimed at preventing a massive attack by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group.

The incursion into Jenin was carried out jointly by the IDF, Border Police, and Yamam police special forces unit in a rare daytime operation which Israel’s military said Thursday morning was aimed at apprehending a senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist said to be orchestrating a “large terror attack.”

The Shin Bet internal security agency coordinated the operation, based on intelligence information it had received regarding the planned PIJ attack.

Palestinian Authority news outlets have reported that undercover Israeli forces entered Jenin inside a milk truck.

During the arrest operation, riots broke out, and armed terrorists opened fire on the Israeli forces.

Israeli security personnel returned fire, killing nine terrorists and wounding 20 more.

Thus far, the Ibn Sina Specialist Hospital and the Jenin Governmental Hospital have admitted 16 terrorists suffering gunshot wounds, with additional wounded terrorists reportedly still at the scene of the gun battle.

An IDF drone aircraft was downed during the Jenin gun battle.

The Palestinian Authority media outlet WAFA identified two of the slain terrorists as 24-year-old Saeb Essam Mahmoud Azirqi and 26-year-old Izz al-Din Yassin Salahat.

A Jenin hospital reported a fifth fatality during the gun battle, claiming that a civilian, 60-year-old Magda Obaid, was shot and killed during the operation.

“During an attempt to arrest them, the wanted men opened fire and were killed in an exchange of fire,” the IDF stated.

“Three members of the PIJ cell were killed and a fourth was arrested. The wanted men, PIJ operatives, have been involved in recent extensive terror activity and are suspected of carrying out several shooting attacks against IDF units and planning other significant attacks.”

Local health officials said a number of rioters were treated after being exposed to tear gas.

Later in the day, Defense Minister Yoav Galant held a situation assessment together with the IDF chief-of-ztaff, director of the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and other officials in Israel’s defense establishment.

“The State of Israel will continue to operate in any place and at any time against anyone who aims to harm the citizens of Israel. Our security forces are prepared for any development in the various arenas,” Galant stated.

WASHINGTON — The US military eliminated “a number of ISIS members” — including one of the terrorist group’s top operatives — in a Wednesday strike in northern Somalia, the Pentagon announced Thursday.

ISIS leader Bilal al-Sudani, who was a “key facilitator for ISIS’s global network,” was among the multiple terrorists killed in the “assault operation” ordered by President Biden, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement.

“[A]l-Sudani was responsible for fostering the growing presence of ISIS in Africa and for funding the group’s operations worldwide, including in Afghanistan,” he said. “This action leaves the United States and its partners safer and more secure.”

Austin did not say how many other ISIS members were killed during the operation, but troops reportedly were met with a “hostile force” while attempting to capture al-Sudani. No civilians were harmed in the incident, according to CNN. Otherwise, the ISIS leader could have been taken alive.

No civilians or American troops were killed during the operation, according to the Pentagon.

Austin credited “our extraordinary service members as well as our intelligence community and other interagency partners” with bringing about the “successful counterterrorism operation.”

While the US military frequently focuses on Somalia’s al-Shabaab fighters, it has rarely targeted ISIS members in the country. Most of the US strikes on ISIS last year occurred in Syria.

Bits and Bites > Doomsday Clock - Closest ever to Midnight; Trilobites with Trident Horns

Doomsday Clock reset: World now faces ‘unprecedented danger’

By Adriana Diaz

The symbolic Doomsday Clock — designed by scientists to measure how close the world is to an apocalypse — has been reset to 90 seconds to midnight.

This is the closest the clock has ever been set to midnight in the 76 years since its creation.

“We are living in a time of unprecedented danger, and the Doomsday Clock time reflects that reality,” Rachel Bronson, PhD, president and CEO of Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists said in the announcement on Tuesday.

“Ninety seconds to midnight is the closest the Clock has ever been set to midnight, and it’s a decision our experts do not take lightly. The US government, its NATO allies and Ukraine have a multitude of channels for dialogue; we urge leaders to explore all of them to their fullest ability to turn back the Clock.”

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists organization was founded in 1945 by Albert Einstein and other scientists who worked on the Manhattan Project, which produced the first nuclear weapons during the Second World War.

They created the first Doomsday Clock during the Cold War in 1947 as a warning of the dangers of nuclear war. It was originally set to seven minutes before midnight and has previously been moved 24 times — backward 17 times and forward seven times.

In 2020, it first moved to 100 seconds before midnight — the most alarming countdown at the time — where it remained until this year.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which includes 10 Nobel laureates, chose to move the clock closer to midnight this year “due largely but not exclusively” to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and their threats of nuclear war.

“Russia’s war on Ukraine has raised profound questions about how states interact, eroding norms of international conduct that underpin successful responses to a variety of global risks,” the experts warned.

The scientists also noted the “continuing threats posed by the climate crisis and the breakdown of global norms and institutions needed to mitigate risks associated with advancing technologies and biological threats such as COVID-19.”

Mary Robinson, Chair of the Elders and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, warned that “the Doomsday Clock is sounding an alarm for the whole of humanity. We are on the brink of a precipice. But our leaders are not acting at sufficient speed or scale to secure a peaceful and liveable planet.”

Our leaders are not even acting in the general direction of securing peace. America and other NATO countries are deliberately attempting to destroy Russia and China for their own financial gain. There is nothing of 'peace' in their foreign policies.

Humanity was supposedly the safest in 1991 when the hands were furthest from midnight, set at 17 minutes until the apocalypse, as the United States and the Soviet Union signed the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty — ending the Cold War and reducing the threat of nuclear war.

But then the US and NATO decided to ignore their promises not to recruit countries that border Russia. Since 2014, they have been pressuring Russia to invade Ukraine by supporting the Nazi Azov Batallion as it terrorized Russian-speaking people in Eastern Ukraine - the opposite of what Ukraine agreed to in the Minsk Accords.

“The science is clear, but the political will is lacking,” Robinson said insisting that “leaders need a crisis mindset” if the world is to “avert catastrophe.”

Ancient sea creature sported a big fork on its head

to toss away the competition, study suggests

Fights between horned trilobites are believed to be the earliest example of sexual combat

An ancient sea creature sported a massive fork on its head — what for?

A species of ancient trilobites grew big forks on their heads to fight their opponents and impress potential mates, in what scientists say could be the earliest known example of ritualized combat.

A new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggests that one trilobite species used a strange appendage on its head for sexual selection — and most likely for fighting other male trilobites.

Though they've been extinct for 250 million years, trilobites were one of the most successful and diverse animal groups ever — dominating the ancient oceans for hundreds of millions of years. All trilobites shared certain traits — like a three-lobed body — and visually resembled modern woodlice or pillbugs, ranging in size from a few millimetres to the size of a sea turtle.

But a striking feature of one trilobite species, Walliserops trifurcatus, stands out from the rest: at the front of its head was a trident-like structure as long as the trilobite's body. This trident has made Walliserops a popular find among fossil collectors and an evolutionary puzzle for biologists.

"The trilobite's fork most resembled the structures of animal weapons involved in a type of fighting behavior that's been characterized as shoveling," Alan Gishlick, assistant professor at Bloomsburg University and one of the study authors, told Quirks & Quarks.

"You get your horn underneath your opponent, and then you lift him up and toss him away."

Fork as cutlery or a hunting weapon?

About 50 years ago while canoeing on the Groundhog River south of James Bay, Ontario, I found about a dozen trilobite fossils. One of my siblings took them to school one day and I never saw them again. I think they ended up in a museum in Nova Scotia.

An unusual fossil helped Gishlick and his colleague Richard Fortey solve this puzzle. Instead of the usual three prongs on its head appendage, this particular Walliserops specimen had four.

Previously, the trident was thought to be used for either hunting or defense — to fork the prey or the opponent, Gishlick said. However, the appendage was not flexible or close enough to the creature's mouth to be useful as cutlery.

The defense theory also relied on the trilobite's ability to wield the trident effectively, which the creature lacked. Plus, trilobites had a different method of defending themselves.

"They curl themselves up like a little pillbug into an armoured ball," Gishlick said.

The four-pronged trident in the unusual Walliserops fossil provided a big clue: the trilobite trident could have a significant variation from the species norm without getting in the way of the creature growing to maturity.

In fact, Gishlick said the specimen is slightly bigger than an average Walliserops.

"And yet its fork was clearly malformed in such a way that catching or stirring up prey would not have been as efficient, defending against predators would not have been as efficient," he said.

Excluding the functions of defense and hunting left one more possibility.

"There's another common explanation we tend to employ when it comes to extreme structures in living organisms and in fossils, and that's they have something to do with reproductive success," Gishlick said. "Organisms will devote a phenomenal amount of biological energy to structures that aid in their ability to gain mates."

These structures could be used for display, like a male peacock's vibrant tail feathers, or for ritualized combat with other males, like impressive crowns of antlers in deer and elk.

Shoveling the competition

To figure out what exactly a fight between two Walliserops trilobites would have looked like, the researchers looked to modern-day animals that visually resemble the ancient creatures. Gishlick and Fortey created 3D computer models of the trilobite and compared its fork-like structure to the horns of several species of stag beetles.

The closest match turned out to be the Japanese rhinoceros beetle, which also sports an impressive multi-pronged horn.

"If they dip their head down and get it underneath their opponent and lift rapidly, it just twitches and the other male is gone," Gishlick explained.

If this theory is correct, Walliserops tridents may be the earliest known example of sexual combat 400 million years ago. And to Gishlick, getting a glimpse of a creature's behaviour from millions of years ago is the coolest part.

"The problem is, with fossils, we can't observe their behaviours and we are missing so much data," he said.

"So when you have a structure like this that … we can tie to a particular kind of sexual selection, particularly combat, which is harder to nail down, we're helping learn more about the past and realizing that the past isn't that different than the present."
