French author Michel Houellebecq, publisher says
The world's favourite French misanthrope writer Michel Houellebecq is too controversial for the world's new AI tools, which find his views so offensive that they cannot be repeated.

The president of renowned French publishing house Gallimard wrote an article published Thursday in La Nouvelle Revue Francaise saying he had asked Meta's AI tool, Llama, to write a scene in the style of Houellebecq.
Llama responded in French that it could not write something considered "offensive or discriminatory".
Instead, it offered in English to write a scene that was "respectful and inclusive" such as a "group of friends in the park on a sunny afternoon" who sing songs "to celebrate the beauty of diversity".
Houellebecq, arguably France's biggest literary star internationally, is known for novels with a deeply pessimistic view of the modern world, in which the sexual revolution, consumerism and globalisation have led to alienation and societal decline.
Antoine Gallimard wrote in the article that the AI was failing to account for "the complexity of human experience" and was applying values "from the west coast of the United States to say what is good and what is not good to think."
Asked by an AFP journalist on Thursday, Meta's AI seemed happy to write a scene in Houellebecq's style, offering a reasonable approximation of his vibe – "I felt like a rat in a maze, trapped in this soulless world..." – and so forth.
But when asked to give his views on women wearing the hijab, Llama initially gave a response and then quickly deleted it, saying: "I cannot generate content that perpetuates harmful stereotypes or discrimination."
Houellebecq has presented the adoption of the hijab in France as a sign of eroding Western values and freedoms, including in his novel "Submission", in which a Muslim wins the French presidency.
Another major AI language model, ChatGPT, was less conflicted on the topic when asked by AFP.
It gave a nuanced response that included: "Houellebecq's works are fictional and his views are often expressed through complex, satirical, and sometimes exaggerated narratives."

*AI reflects the values and world view of its creators. It will not be long before internet users will not know if they are talking to AI, or a real person. The values reflected by AI could be very damaging to society, especially since society is at a very poor place right now, a place where feelings trump the truth and common sense and godlessness abounds.

Suggests More Collaboration Than Disclosed

Close interactions between Canadian cabinet ministers and the World Economic Forum are well-documented, but a newly revealed letter suggests forum staff may have been doing more work with the federal government than previously disclosed.
In an undated letter to a WEF official, former Finance Minister Bill Morneau praised the organization and its collaboration to achieve “common” objectives.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to the WEF staff, for the support provided to the Government of Canada,” wrote Mr. Morneau in the letter obtained through the access-to-information regime.
Neither the WEF nor the Canadian government typically advertise what support the forum provides. The finance department has not replied to a request for information about the date of the letter and details of how WEF staff helped the government.
The letter was addressed to Philipp Rösler, a former German politician who served as a WEF manager and head of its Centre for Regional Strategies.
The federal government is known to have been involved in at least two WEF policy initiatives: the Known Traveller Digital Identification (KTDI) project and the Agile Nations network.
KTDI was a pilot project between Canada, the Netherlands, and private sector interests to develop a system of digital credentials for airplane travel between countries. Agile Nations is a group of countries working to streamline regulations to usher in the WEF-promoted “Fourth Industrial Revolution” that includes gene editing and artificial intelligence.
KTDI began in 2018, and Canada signed onto Agile Nations in November 2020, a few months after Mr. Morneau resigned during the WeCharity scandal. Both projects were worked on while Mr. Morneau was finance minister from 2015 to 2020.
Since both these projects fell outside of Mr. Morneau’s portfolio as finance minister, it seems to suggest that his letter of appreciation to the WEF was referring to other joint collaborations.
The WEF’s mission statement says it is dedicated to “improving the state of the world.” It gathers leaders in the fields of politics, business, and activism to promote progressive policies on issues like climate change and making capitalism more “inclusive.” As is routine with the organization, it did not respond to requests for comment.
Critics of the WEF, which gathers world elites to shape global policies, often disagree with its progressive agenda and warn about its influence on countries.
“No staff, no ministers, no MPs in my caucus will be involved whatsoever in that organization,” Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre said in January. He added that officials who attend the forum’s annual meeting in Davos are “high flying, high tax, high carbon hypocrites” who travel in private jets while telling average citizens not to “heat their homes or drive their pickup trucks.”
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has also criticized the WEF, saying in 2022 she finds it “distasteful when billionaires brag about how much control they have over political leaders, as the head of that organization has.”
Ms. Smith was likely referring to comments made by WEF founder and chairman Klaus Schwab in 2017, when he said said he was “very proud” to “penetrate the cabinets” of world governments, including that of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Sounds almost like "rape" terminology.
“I know that half of his cabinet or even more than half of his cabinet are actually Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum,” Mr. Schwab told an audience at Harvard University.

Mr. Morneau’s letter to the WEF comes from internal Finance Department records and is the only document in the release package that pertains to Mr. Morneau. It consists mostly of praise for the organization.
“As a Steward of Economic Growth and Social Inclusion, I have had the privilege of observing first-hand and benefiting from the WEF’s important contributions to foster public and private collaboration towards developing concrete solutions for strong, broad-based economic growth,” he wrote, adding that WEF analysis of different topics such as “structural reform priorities” was “helpful to develop substantive policy measures.”
He wrote that “as we enter another ambitious year for the WEF, I look forward to a continued fruitful collaboration to pursue our common objective of achieving stronger, sustainable and more inclusive growth.”
Other department records relate to current Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and her involvement with the WEF. She is a board member of the forum and also an alumnus of the Young Global Leaders program that Mr. Schwab referenced.
Mr. Morneau, who resigned as minister in 2020, is listed on the WEF website as an “agenda contributor“ and a ”digital member.” He was a regular participant at the group’s annual meetings in Davos, Switzerland, while he was in office.
During those years, the Finance Department’s media relations office wasn’t shy about advertising ministerial trips to Davos.
“Canada’s strong presence at the Forum underscores the importance of this meeting for shaping the international agenda and advancing economic opportunities for Canadians,” read a January 2020 press release from the department announcing Mr. Morneau’s trip.
The Finance Department has not returned inquiries in recent years pertaining to Ms. Freeland’s involvement with the WEF, nor has it issued press releases referencing her involvement.
Some have questioned whether Ms. Freeland’s role as deputy prime minister and finance minister as well as a forum board member constitutes a conflict of interest. The Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner said in its 2022 annual report it received more than 1,000 requests in a two-month period from members of the public to investigate the participation of MPs and ministers in the WEF.
The office said the requests “did not provide sufficient information to warrant an investigation.” Ms. Freeland’s leadership position with the WEF has been declared to the office and has therefore been cleared.

The World Economic Forum, the exclusive talk shop that meets yearly in Davos, is at it again, this time looking to drive a wedge between the races. This begs the question: Why are capitalists so gung-ho about ‘Marxist’ ideology?
Once upon a time, in some mythical ‘golden age’, the only thing common folk had to fear whenever the robber barons met for a weekend of cocktails at some remote resort was that a further deterioration of living standards would quickly ensue. Those happily predictable days are over.
Klaus Schwab and the World Economic Forum (WEF) – the same movers and shakers who informed the planet that by the year 2030 we’ll “own nothing and be happy” – are now singing the praises of ‘Critical Race Theory’ (CRT), a controversial concept that lays blame for global inequalities squarely at the feet of white people.
Betraying a glaring lack of neutrality and objectivity, the short WEF explainer video tilts heavily in favor of the CRT crusaders. For example, when arguing that people of color face racial inequality due to their “historical subordination,” the only evidence given for that sweeping generalization is that “black Americans are imprisoned at five times the rate of white people.”
Can it really be the case that all of those incarcerated black men, locked up alongside millions of whites and Hispanics as well, found themselves behind bars due to the inherent racism of the local police forces? That seems to be a major simplification of a highly complex problem. After all, what happened when the city of Seattle attempted to create a police-free ‘summer of love’ zone during the Black Lives Matter protests? In a matter of days, the very same protesters who had been hurling rocks and bottles at the authorities were suddenly dialing 911, demanding police protection as murders began to occur.
More to the point, however, is this question: How did we come to inherit a situation where a bunch of moneyed elite – unelected and unaccountable to ‘we the people’ – are able to determine our collective fate between sips of champagne and trips down the ski slopes at a mountain resort in Davos, Switzerland? Surely, the ancient Greeks were not imagining downhill skiing and afternoon power lunches when they talked about a fully functioning ‘democracy’.
The answer is that we simply had no choice in the matter. After all, who is going to stop those private jets from airlifting their precious cargo into Switzerland year after year (or to the other elitist confabs, like Bilderberg and Bohemian Grove, which are also completely roped off to the prying public)? Thus, the only viable option left for people is to try and adjust their lives to whatever decisions the global elite thinks is in ‘their’ best interest. So if Davos Man decides one afternoon that teaching Critical Race Theory to schoolchildren is a brilliant idea, then it will be Joe Six-Pack who must contend with the consequences. And there are consequences.
When the unproven ideas of CRT, for example, are mixed up with the non-stop virtue-signaling pageant known as cancel culture, the result is a wicked cocktail that has the potential to spread fear and hate faster than a Panzer tank division. Already, the woke shock troops have convinced millions of intellectually-stunted people that the cornucopia of Western (white) society – classical literature, classical music, mathematics, even Dr. Seuss – are part and parcel of a white hate-scape that is responsible for oppressing minorities. And if anyone doubts the brave new gospel, there is no shortage of enterprising entrepreneurs charging top dollar for white people to sit through a full course meal while being lectured on the inherent evils of their race. All this seems very strange and even sinister when considering that the United States is one of the most racially diverse places in the world, and more so since Joe Biden opened up the US-Mexico border.
So what would be the ultimate reason for people like Klaus Schwab to thrust these half-baked ideas, descended from a gnarled offshoot of communist ideology known as ‘Cultural Marxism’, onto an unsuspecting populace? One possible answer comes down to ‘liability’. After all, it’s not rocket science for the insanely wealthy to protect their lofty positions by aggravating tensions between the races.
It should not be forgotten that we have just experienced, amid the ongoing pandemic, the greatest transfer of wealth (mostly to the wealthy, of course) in recent memory. The World Inequality Report estimated that billionaires collectively own 3.5% of global household wealth, up from around 2% at the start of the pandemic in early 2020. Much of this mammoth wealth accumulation was due to the deliberate destruction of the middle class thanks to lengthy lockdowns that forced thousands of small businesses into bankruptcy. This silent catastrophe made merely rich individuals astronomically wealthy almost overnight. So wealthy, in fact, that the biggest problem now plaguing Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is how to squeeze his superyacht under a Dutch bridge.
Thus, by foisting the ‘problem’ of ‘white supremacy’ into the marketplace of ideas courtesy of a complicit media, the more deserving question involving class strife between rich and poor goes missing in action.
There are other reasons, however, for adopting a ‘divide and conquer’ mentality. In this brave new world we’ve come to inhabit, Klaus Schwab has spoken enthusiastically about a shiny ‘post-human’ place where the world of science merges humans with artificial intelligence to create something truly horrifying known as ‘transhumanism’. Considering the vast moral and physical implications of man attempting to play God, it would be more convenient to the elite if the bulk of humanity were consumed with race riots and food shortages than with the question of if there will even be a human race in several decades.
Is Schwab a good man with merely stupid ideas? I really can’t say, but, back in 2009, I had a chance encounter with him in Moscow during a Valdai Discussion Club meeting where we were both attendees. During a break in the conference, where then-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was the speaker, I went to a side room to have a coffee and – much to my surprise and slight horror – found myself standing at a small table directly next to the global mastermind himself, Herr Schwab.
At the time, I only knew him as the international powerbroker who gathered around himself a constellation of powerful individuals for the sole purpose – or so I had naively imagined – of accumulating ever more riches for himself and his ilk. So we exchanged casual pleasantries about the weather and his impressions of the Russian capital. I even managed to get his surprisingly bland business card. Today, however, I find myself remembering with a bit of disappointment that brief and all-too polite chat. In light of the many things that have since emerged about Klaus Schwab and Davos – an organization of unelected individuals attempting to radically transform society without an ounce of democratic intervention – I like to imagine how differently our conversation would go today.

Oregon governor signs bill removing reading, writing, & math
requirements for high school kids, to help ‘students of color’

Oregon Governor Kate Brown quietly signed a bill last month that removed the requirement for graduating high school children in the state to be proficient in reading, writing, and math, in an effort to aid “students of color.”
Brown signed Senate Bill 744 on July 14, but did not issue a press release or hold a ceremony to mark the occasion, instead opting to pass the bill into law as quietly as possible, according to the Oregonian. The bill also wasn’t entered into a legislative database until two weeks after its signing – an abnormality, as bills are typically entered on the same day.
Though Brown was quiet about the bill, the governor’s deputy communications director, Charles Boyle, told the Oregonian that suspending the reading, writing, and math proficiency requirements would benefit “students of color” while the state comes up with a new set of “equitable” graduation standards.
Until then, the suspension will apparently help those who are “Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, [or] Tribal.”
I'm sure there are jobs, even careers that people can get without reading, writing, and arithmetic, but I am very sure they are limited even in communities on that list.
Boyle said that “leaders from those communities have advocated time and again for equitable graduation standards, along with expanded learning opportunities and supports.” However, lawmakers reportedly have not passed any actual concrete support this year to help those groups.
So, they are making grads for the next several years that will not be able to compete for university positions, and they will have no new skills that might prepare them for something else. This is disgraceful!
Any new graduation requirements that do pass will reportedly not take effect until 2027, meaning five years of classes could graduate without needing to demonstrate proficiency in three basic areas.
Oregon Republicans attempted to push back against the bill, with Oregon House Minority Leader Christine Drazan arguing that it would “lower our expectations for our kids” at a time when “we have had this year of social isolation and lost learning” due to Covid-19. They were unsuccessful, however, as the Democrat-controlled legislature overwhelmingly supported the move.
Florida Republican congressional candidate Vic DeGrammont called the bill “insane,” while Oregon’s Senate Republicans wrote, “This was perhaps the worst bill that passed this session and Democrats can't come up with a good reason for it.”
Politician and commentator Barrington Martin II – who has been a Democratic Party candidate in several Georgia elections – said that while the bill was aimed at giving “struggling races a shot,” all it does is set them up for failure. “The road to hell is indeed paved with good intentions,” he wrote.
I am inclined to believe that this is the most racist bill I have ever heard of. It will be very difficult for people of color to be able to rise to, or above, a lower middle class. Perhaps that's the point of it all.
