Netherlands says it is enacting 'strictest
asylum regime ever'
Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Saying it "cannot cope" with large number of migrants crossing its border, the Netherlands unveiled strict new anti-immigration measures Friday.
Prime Minister Dick Schoof and Minister of Asylum and Migration Marjolein Faber will enact the new emergency law "as soon as possible," the government said in a statement.
The legislation will pave the way for the country to opt out of the European Union's asylum and migration policy, which it plans to do next week.
"The voter has given a clear mandate. We need to change course and the influx must be reduced immediately. We are taking measures to make the Netherlands as unattractive as possible for asylum seekers. And there is no place here for anyone who abuses our hospitality. I am going for a safer Netherlands," Faber said in the statement.
The Netherlands last fall elected the nationalist conservative, far-right Party for Freedom or PVV. The PVV garnered around a quarter of total seats in the Dutch parliament and now leads a coalition government.
"People feel the consequences of the asylum crisis every day," Faber said in a video statement posted on X.
Faber also made it clear the Netherlands will ask Brussels for an opt-out of the EU asylum and migration policy and instead "join forces with like-minded countries in Europe" in a move she said will strengthen control of the country's border.
The government said the "strictest asylum regime ever" is necessary to curb the flow of migrants into the country it contends is leading to problems in the public housing, health care and education sectors.
Under the new rules, the Netherlands' declaration of undesirability will be expanded in an effort to more quickly deport immigrants who commit crimes.
The term nuclear family will also be limited to the narrowest possible definition. The country plans to only allow families of migrants to reunite if a clear permanent residence exists and one family member has had legal residence status for at least two years. That family member will also need to have a "suitable income."
Asylum seekers will now be required to return to their country of origin as soon as it is safe there and will no longer automatically receive an asylum permit for an indefinite period after five years.
"By limiting the influx, fast procedures, a punitive approach to troublemakers, stricter border controls, limiting the possibilities for subsequent travel and firmly focusing on return, the Netherlands must become a leader in Europe when it comes to admission rules," the government said in its statement.

A Paris court in May detained and charged a couple on accusations that they were involved in Iranian plots to kill Israelis and Jews in Germany and France, police sources told AFP.
Authorities charged Abdelkrim S., 34, and his partner Sabrina B., 33, on May 4 with conspiring with a criminal terrorist organization and placed them in pre-trial detention.
The case, known as “Marco Polo” and revealed Thursday by French news website Mediapart, signals a revival in Iranian state-sponsored terrorism in Europe, according to a report by France’s General Directorate for Internal Security consulted by AFP.
“Since 2015, the Iranian [secret] services have resumed a targeted killing policy,” the French security agency wrote, adding that “the threat has worsened again in the context of the Israel-Hamas war.”
The alleged objective for Iranian intelligence was to target civilians and sow fear in Europe among the country’s political opposition as well as among Jews and Israelis.
Iran is accused of recruiting criminals, including drug lords, to conduct such operations.
Abdelkrim S. was previously sentenced to 10 years behind bars over a killing in Marseille and released on probation in July 2023.
He is accused of being the main France-based operative for an Iran-sponsored terrorist cell that planned acts of violence in France and Germany….

A teenager assaulted a detective constable during a police interview and put him in a chokehold as he shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’, a court has heard.
Muhammad Zakir Arif, from Bury, Greater Manchester, lunged at the male officer as he was questioned on suspicion of being involved in terrorism offences.
The 18-year-old had been arrested a day earlier when he was stopped travelling in a taxi as a passenger and was found to be in possession of a Zombie-style knife and a machete in a rucksack.
Prosecutor Joe Allman told Manchester Crown Court that Arif put up a ‘significant struggle’ when arrested as he kicked out at officers and shouted ‘Allahu Akbar ‘ – meaning ‘there is no God but Allah’ – as well as other words in Arabic….

BERLIN, Sept 9 (Reuters) – Germany’s government announced plans to impose tighter controls at all of the country’s land borders in what it called an attempt to tackle irregular migration and protect the public from threats such as Islamist extremism.
The controls will start on Sept. 16 and initially last for six months, the interior ministry said in a statement on Monday.
They are part of a series of measures Germany has taken to toughen its stance on irregular migration in recent years following a surge in arrivals, in particular people fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government is seeking to seize back the initiative from the opposition far-right and conservatives, who have seen support rise as they tap into voter worries about stretched public services, integration and security.’
“We are strengthening internal security and continuing our hard line against irregular migration,” Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said.
Recent deadly knife attacks in which the suspects were asylum seekers have stoked concerns over immigration. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for a knife attack in the western city of Solingen that killed three people in August.
The AfD earlier this month became the first far-right party since World War Two to win a state election, in Thuringia, after campaigning heavily on the issue of migration….

Austria carries out 72 raids against alleged Islamic jihadis ahead of 9/11 anniversary
The impetus for Austria’s raids was the foiled jihad terror plot to attack Taylor Swift concerts, in which three suspects, ages 17, 18 and 19 — inspired by the Islamic State group — planned to kill tens of thousands of fans.
All across Europe, a persistent danger exists since the beginning of the flood of Muslim migration that started during the Syrian civil war, and continued from other Muslim countries in Africa and the Middle East. Although Austria was not as reckless and welcoming in implementing open-door migration policies as were other EU members such as Germany, Sweden and France, it, too, saw an influx. With that influx, plus the proliferation of the Islamic State and its ideologies, the entire Western world was exposed to great risk, one that persists to this day.
Austria recently announced new obligations for asylum seekers, “intended to strengthen the integration of refugees and provide them with a clear grounding in Austrian values and social mores.”
Most EU countries are too far to the left to follow Austria’s example before it is too late.

VIENNA — Austrian security forces carried out raids against 72 alleged Islamic extremists this week ahead of the 23th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in the United States, citing the potential for copycat violence on the date of the plane hijackings that killed nearly 3,000 people.
The raids occurred across the European country on Tuesday, before Wednesday’s anniversary, because the 2001 tragedy remains symbolic for extremists and has inspired copycat attempts, the Directorate of State Security and Intelligence said Thursday in a statement.
Authorities thwarted an attempted attack last year on anniversary at the Vienna central station, and the risk remains high on the date around the world, it said.

Sanija Ameti, the Bosnian Muslim migrant, Zurich city councilor and Green-Liberal Party member who posted photos showing her shooting at images of Jesus and Mary, had apologized and made excuses. Nevertheless, the backlash was furious, leading to expulsion proceedings by the Green-Liberal Party chapter in Zurich and dismissal from her job at Farner Group consultancy firm. Rather than face the completion of her expulsion proceedings, Ameti quit.
Ameti had tried pleading ignorance, claiming that she “deleted the social media image immediately” when she “realized its religious content,” and that she “didn’t think about it.” But Ameti knew exactly what she was doing, since she intentionally posted the image of Mary and baby Jesus riddled with bullet holes.
Imagine the outcome if anyone had done the same to an image of Muhammad. They’d be under a death threat and likely executed by a follower of the religion of peace.
Swiss politician resigns after firing shots at Jesus picture

Swiss politician Sanija Ameti has resigned from leadership of the Liberal Green Party in Zurich after an uproar over pictures of her firing shots at a Christian motif. On Sunday evening, she deleted photos that had already been published on social media and made an apology.
The youth arm of the right-wing Swiss People’s Party filed a criminal complaint against Ameti for violation of freedom of religion and worship, the party announced on Monday morning. Nicolas Rimoldi, founder of Mass-Voll, a movement formed to protest pandemic measures, also announced that he would press charges.
After Swiss daily Blick reported on the pictures published by Ameti on Instagram on Sunday, it did not take long for the 32-year-old politician to respond to the criticism. She had deleted the pictures after becoming aware of the religious content, she wrote on X and asked for an apology.
Ameti said that she had happened to have an art catalogue with her and had not paid attention to the religious content of the picture…..
