‘Godless people’: Russia mulls ban on
promoting childless lifestyles
A group of Russian MPs have put forward a bill that would ban any “propaganda” promoting childless lifestyles and the choice not to have children, including in the media, online advertising and in films. It comes as the country faces a demographic crisis exacerbated by the war in Ukraine.
The 'godless' comment came from a man named 'Abdullah'. An Arab name and possibly a Muslim. But his argument that childless couples might be godless may be valid. Parenthood is an important part of God's plan for His people, both to populate the Earth and to help the parents to grow in character. Growing in character is one of God's main ambitions for all of us. It helps to prepare us for Eternity. Refusing to have children can really be a very selfish lifestyle, and selfishness is the opposite of the Christian value of sacrificial love.
It's typical of an European journalist to think that Russia would want to encourage families to have more children because of the war in Ukraine, but Russia has been promoting larger families for years. Perhaps it is because they see what is happening in Europe where the indigenous populations are not birthing enough children to maintain their current numbers. They may also see that Muslim immigrants are groing at a significant rate both through immigration and through child birth rates much higher than the rest of Europe.
Russia will most likely protect their Russian majority just as China and Myanmar are protecting their populations from being overrun. We may not like how they are accomplishing it, but they are accomplishing it.
