Another young man arrested for preparing terrorist attack;
Fifth in one week
Heavily armed police officers arrested an 18-year-old man from Kesteren on Friday on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) reported on Tuesday after the teenager’s arraignment. He is the fifth young terrorism suspect arrested in one week.
The Kesteren man was arrested as part of the same investigation in which three other teenagers were arrested during overnight raids last Wednesday. A 20-year-old man was also arrested in Bergen op Zoom on Thursday in a separate terrorism investigation.
The Kesteren arrest was carried out by a team of the police’s Special Intervention Service (DSI) based on additional information from the intelligence service AIVD, the OM said. The police also raided his home and seized data carriers like phones and laptops for further investigation. No firearms were found.
The suspect was arraigned on Tuesday, and the examining magistrate in Rotterdam remanded him into custody for at least two more weeks. Like the other three suspects in this case, he is in restricted custody, which means that he is only allowed contact with his lawyer.
The other three suspects arrested during the early hours of July 29 are boys aged 16, 17, and 19 from Rotterdam, Eindhoven, and De Rijp in Noord-Holland. The authorities have not revealed any details about the attack they were allegedly planning.
An OM spokesperson told RTL Nieuws that, as far as is known, the Kesteren suspect does not have a criminal record. This is the case for two of the other suspects, both of whom were previously convicted of terrorism.
The 17-year-old from De Rijp was previously sentenced to juvenile detention for participating in a terrorist organization. And the 19-year-old from Eindhoven was sentenced in 2024, when he was 16, to juvenile detention and community service for preparing a terrorist attack and joining the terrorist organization ISIS.
London police arrest woman after 4 men stabbed in Covent Garden
Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Officers arrested a woman accused of stabbing four men in London's Covent Garden neighborhood, the Metropolitan Police said Wednesday.
All four victims -- aged 34, 39, 42 and 52 -- were transported to the hospital. Two have been released, while the other two were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart said officers responded to the area -- a dining and entertainment district -- "within minutes" of receiving reports of the attacks.
"While still at an early stage of the investigation, we would like to reassure the community that we currently believe this to be an isolated, mental-health related incident," he said in a statement on X.
"A visible police presence will remain in the area while evidence is gathered at the scene and we thank the pubic for their understanding."
People who worked in the area told The Guardian the suspect was known in the area and often displayed erratic behavior. Witnesses said it appeared she chose the victims at random and used scissors in the attack.
Arjan Gjorga, who works at a restaurant near the incident, told The Guardian he witnessed the attack.
"I see her all the time, she's a homeless person. She walks around up and down asking for help, she visits the church at the top of the street," he said.
Police cordoned off part of the area, including St Mungo's homeless shelter. A representative for the facility told the BBC they couldn't "confirm whether anyone from St Mungo's is involved at this stage."
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and assault.
Suspected arson destroys Montreal kosher restaurant as police investigate

Montreal police are investigating a suspected arson that heavily damaged a kosher restaurant and another business in the city’s Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood early Saturday, after evidence at the scene indicated the fire was deliberately set.
The Montreal Police Service (SPVM) said a 911 call was received at about 3:15 a.m. reporting a fire near the intersection of Décarie Boulevard and Plamondon Avenue.
Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours before bringing it under control, SPVM spokesperson Raphaël Bergeron said.
The building housing Noam, a kosher restaurant, and another business sustained major damage.
Police said someone was reportedly seen leaving the premises shortly after the fire began.
Bergeron said that information prompted authorities to transfer the investigation to the SPVM arson squad.
Investigators were expected to examine the scene, review surveillance footage and interview the restaurant owners to determine whether they had received any threats before the fire. Police said evidence recovered at the site points to arson.
The investigation comes after several antisemitic arson attacks targeting Jewish institutions in the Montreal area in recent years.
In June 2026, authorities arrested 38-year-old Steven Luu after he allegedly smashed a window and attempted to start a fire inside Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom, a Reform synagogue in Westmount.
Congregation Beth Tikvah, a synagogue in Montreal’s West Island, was also targeted in two separate Molotov cocktail attacks in late 2024.
In June 2026, Mohamed Ilyess Akodad, 20, pleaded guilty in connection with those firebombings. Court proceedings revealed he had been hired for $15,000 to carry out the attack.
No arrests have been announced in connection with Saturday’s fire.
The SPVM arson squad continues to investigate the blaze at Noam and the adjacent business as officers work to identify the individual seen leaving the area shortly after the fire began and determine whether the businesses had been threatened before the incident.
Canada: Muslim accused of tossing rocks through church window three times
Toronto authorities will make no effort to determine why exactly Khaliq Hussain Anwar decided to throw rocks through the windows of the church. If they consider the question at all, they will dismiss him as mentally ill. If anyone among them realizes that Islam has been waging a 1,400-year jihad against Christians, they will not connect that jihad to this incident. One cannot have the public suspecting just how massive the betrayal that the authorities have perpetrated really is, now, can we?
Man allegedly tossed rocks through East York church window three times

A 56-year-old man is accused of throwing rocks through windows of an East York church on three separate occasions within eight days.
And investigators are treating the incidents as a suspected case of hate-motivated mischief.
Toronto Police say the first incident happened at the church near Pape and Cosburn Aves. on July 24 and allegedly saw a man throw a rock through a window, “causing damage to the religious property.”
The man allegedly returned to the same church a week later, on Friday, and again threw a rock through a window, causing further damage.
Then on Saturday, just a day later, police said officers were in the vicinity and allegedly spotted the same man throwing yet another rock through a window of the same church.
A suspect was arrested at the scene.
Khaliq Hussain Anwar, of Toronto, is charged with three counts of mischief relating to religious property….
