The Ukraine Proxy War > West lost proxy war – Why the US wants out - Orban; Trump's deal with Ukraine for its precious metals - Anneke de Laaf

West lost proxy war to Russia – Orban

EU states are “hesitant to admit” failure in Ukraine, while the US is in a better position due to Donald Trump’s policies, the Hungarian PM has said
West lost proxy war to Russia – Orban

The West has waged a “proxy war” against Russia via Ukraine and lost it, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said.

Hungary, a member of the EU, has repeatedly criticized the bloc’s policies on the Ukraine conflict, particularly its sanctions on Moscow and weapons deliveries to Kiev.

In an interview with OT YouTube channel published on Thursday, Orban said the whole “Western world” has thrown its weight behind Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, which he described as a “proxy war.”

His assessment echoed that of Moscow, which has long characterized the hostilities as a de facto conflict with the West.

Of course it is. The west's War Industry has been steadily streaming weapons into Ukraine since 2014. 11 years can move a lot of inventory and make kazillions of Euros for Europe and America's War Industry oligarchs.

It also gave America an excuse to blow up Russia's Nord Stream II so they could sell Europe LNG at much higher prices than Russian natural gas.

And, somehow, Europe seems to be grateful for this madness.

According to the Hungarian prime minister, the West has lost but “European leaders are hesitant to admit” failure. He argued that this outcome will have a big impact on the entire West, as “losing a war is a serious thing.”

Orban went on to say that European leaders are “offering Ukraine to continue the war and in return receive European Union membership.” He argued that this would be problematic as Ukraine is no longer sovereign and cannot support itself.

Regarding the US, the Hungarian prime minister said Washington is in a better position thanks to President Donald Trump’s approach, having broken with the Ukraine policies pursued by his predecessor, Joe Biden.

According to Orban, Trump “saved the US from a serious defeat.”

Speaking to Hungary’s Kossuth Radio last month, Orban described the EU’s policies on Ukraine as “rudderless.” He warned that Brussels, with its hardline position, risks becoming irrelevant as Trump actively works toward securing a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

And, he's correct. Europe had better get involved in ending the conflict or it will suffer an embarrassment for the ages.

Earlier in March, Orban told the YouTube channel Patriota that the EU was feeding Kiev “empty promises” as it “doesn’t have a single penny left… [to] continue arming Ukraine, maintaining the Ukrainian army, and funding the functioning of the Ukrainian state.”

His comments came after Budapest refused to endorse a joint EU communique calling for an increase in military aid to Kiev.

Trump's deal with Ukraine

So Donald got the deal with Kiev that he wanted, as expected. Bullying works. Dutch State news says there are positive reactions both in the US and in Kiev, but I expect in the latter far more with mixed feelings.
Just consider: the US started this war (Obama), it sponsored it, ensured that Kiev did not come to an agreement with Moscow and saw the country and its economy destroyed, while not being bothered about the staggering number of casualties.

Now the US takes possession of Kiev’s mineral and energy assets. We do not yet know the details of this new “cooperation”, but we do know the Yankee attitude towards “cooperation”, and we do know that Kiev has been ordered to put 50% of their piece of the pie (which I expect won’t be the bigger piece) aside to fund the restoration of Kiev and its territories and any new weapons Washington will now sell to Kiev on a commercial basis (according to the Kyiv Post, it reports today the first deal for $50 million worth of new weapons).

It has also been stipulated that the reconstruction must be done by parties “which did not finance the Russian war machine”, which sounds to me like the Yanks will take first pickings and their loyal “allies” can do the rest and Kiev has no say in who it does business with.

It is also still unclear if Donald will consider this deal sufficient repayment of the billions of $$ Washington invested in its war against Russia on Kiev territory, or if further payments will be required.

So “we destroy your country and then occupy it and make you pay us for restoring it” all over again, we have seen this before.
More worryingly is, that no details are known yet about which Kiev assets have been signed away to Washington. Don’t forget that Kiev refuses to recognize realities on the ground and still considers the new Russian territories and Crimea theirs. And although Donald and his team have been making statements that Kiev must accept losing these parts, so far they have not formally recognized that these territories are now an integral part of the Russian Federation as enshrined in their Constitution.

If the most interesting assets are in the Russian territories, Donald might just decide to change his mind and grab them for himself. In that context we must remember that for the Donbass, Trump never suggested that it should be recognized as part of the Russian Federation de jure. He has also discussed “cooperation” with Putin and I can just see him believe that Putin can deal with the locals and help get the exploitation of the Donbass assets going, while the US remains owner (with this new deal). As long as all the $$ flow to Washington, Donald is happy. And doing another Minsk is not an issue for him.

I think Moscow is well aware of these issues and therefore hasn’t responded yet. First we need to know the details of the deal. Including all the fine print.

Then we can see where we stand.
