May 6 (UPI) -- Iran on Saturday executed a Swedish-Iranian dissident who was convicted of leading a group that had carried out several deadly attacks in the country.
Habib Chaab, who was the founder of a separatist group calling for independence for ethnic Arabs in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan province, was executed after being convicted of corruption charges, Iranian state media reported.
Chaab had been living in Sweden for a decade. However, in 2020 he went to Turkey and was then detained by Iranian agents and transported back to Iran.
The European Union strongly condemned the execution in a statement issued Saturday.
"The death penalty violates the inalienable right to life enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment," EU officials said. "The European Union calls on Iran to refrain from any future executions and to pursue a consistent policy towards the abolition of capital punishment."
The bloc accused Tehran of carrying out "increasing number" of arbitrary detentions of dual EU-Iranian nationals in Iran "in direct violation of international law."
In 2018, Iranian state television showed video of Chaab purportedly claiming responsibility for an attack that year on a military parade in Ahvaz, the capital of the southwestern province of Khuzestan, that authorities said killed 25 people and wounded almost 250.
Chaab's supporters, however, have dismissed the interview as a coerced confessions.
Amnesty International has said that Iran executes more people than any other nation except China.
He became a Danish citizen: As a ‘thank you’ he supported IS and shot at
Fogh and Khader – now he is convicted of treason and terrorism
by Karen Jespersen and Ralf Pittelkow,
Den Korte Avis, May 3, 2023
The empty cartridge casings flew out of the machine guns when the Danish citizen Ahmad el-Haj, together with three other jihadists from Denmark, shot at pictures of a number of well-known Danish personalities and politicians. The disgusting act was captured on video.
Among those who were shot at were the cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Naser Khader. The video, allegedly recorded in Syria, was posted on YouTube in August 2013. Den Korte Avis wrote about it.
Now Ahmad el-Haj has been found guilty of treason and terrorism in the Copenhagen District Court. It has been reported by DR.
“I can inform you that it is a unanimous jury decision,” said presiding judge Karen Duus Mathiesen, according to DR.
32-year-old Ahmed el-Haj was charged in the case with having joined the Islamic State and for having participated in combat operations for the terrorist group during the armed conflict in Syria, to which Denmark was a party, for an extended period.
Ahmed el-Haj was also accused of other terrorist-related acts – among other things, because he took part in an IS propaganda video in 2013.
He was extradited from Turkey in 2019.
He is a Danish citizen and lived in Aarhus before traveling to Syria in 2013, where he was injured, and today he is in a wheelchair.
A verdict in the case is expected on May 25. The penalty in the case is up to life. Ahmed el-Haj pleads not guilty.
His defense lawyer, Michael Juul Eriksen, can already say that he and his client are appealing the case to the High Court.
The latter comes as no great surprise. Many with a non-Western background who are sentenced in the Danish legal system have a tendency to appeal their sentences almost at the back of their mind. This, parenthetically noted, creates a serious strain on the Danish legal system.
Otherwise, Ahmed el-Haj is accused of no small things. Seen from Danish eyes, it is a shockingly serious matter that a person whom Denmark has accepted and granted citizenship so emphatically demonstrates his hatred for Denmark and for a number of Danish personalities.
As a member of the Islamic State, Ahmed el-Haj, according to the prosecutor’s office, participated in an armed struggle against Denmark, which was a party to the side fighting the terrorist state.
Another example of Islamic hysteria
Pakistan: Muslim mob lynches man accused of ‘blasphemy’

It strains credulity that someone who was addressing a rally of pro-Sharia Imran Khan’s party would be so foolish as actually to utter blasphemy against Islam, unless he was suicidal. What he actually did was compare Khan to a prophet. The mob took umbrage, and killed him. The idea is that “blasphemers” must be immediately punished, and that the mob is the executor of the wrath of Allah (cf. Qur’an 9:14-15).

Man lynched over ‘blasphemy’ during political rally in Pakistan
India Today, May 7, 2023:
A man was lynched by a mob after he allegedly made blasphemous remarks during a rally of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The incident took place on Saturday when the deceased, Maulana Nigar, was addressing the rally of PTI’s local chapter in Sawaldher in Mardan, The News International reported.
As he was winding-up his speech, he allegedly made blasphemous remarks which angered the audience present at the rally. More number of people increased within no time and they lynched Nigar, killing him on the spot, an official said.
The body was shifted by the police for post-mortem and security personnel have been deployed in the area. Legal action is being taken, Muhammad Ali Khan, Regional Police Officer, Mardan, told The News International.
Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Azam Khan, condemned the incident and directed the police to maintain law and order. He advised politicians against giving statements that could incite violence.
He also urged people not to take the law into their hands.
Blasphemy is a sensitive issue in Pakistan, where even unproven allegations can incite violence by mobs….
Because Muslims, especially those on the sub-continent, are easily provoked into hysteria when it comes to Islam.
