Migrants’ children in Swedish schools are increasingly segregated – survey

Some Swedish schools have almost exclusively either foreign-born or Swedish children, according to a recent study. The increasing segregation leads to lower education levels and missed opportunities for the kids, officials warn.

Thousands of migrants’ children in Sweden are less and less likely to meet their Swedish classmates at school, according to a survey from the state-funded SVT TV channel. The study of 3,641 Swedish schools published last week shows four out of 10 schools have an imbalance in the ratio of migrant and Swedish children compared to the overall proportion in the given municipality.

Officials say segregation is real and that it directly affects students’ performance.

“We get an increased concentration of students based on social background and thus differences in terms of school performance,” Peter Fredriksson, chief of the Swedish National Agency for Education, said, commenting on the study. “You should have the same opportunities to succeed regardless of which school you go to. But it is not the case today.”

A 2017 report showed a sharp increase in the performance gap between migrant students and Swedish-born children, with socio-economic background and neighborhood being the key factors in the division.

Compulsory school education has been a crucial element of Sweden’s social welfare system since 1842. Every child was entitled to attend the nearest school to their place of residence. In the 1990s, private schools emerged and parents gained the right to choose the school. A 2018 report reveals that well-educated Swedish-born families tend to withdraw from schools where children of parents with low-level education and migrant backgrounds prevail.

According to the SVT’s survey, local government attempts to improve the situation – including measures such as school redistricting or merging several schools – have not led to the desired results, and the National Agency for Education statistics still shows uneven distribution of students within the same municipalities.

The report was met with a number of harsh reactions on social media, with some users complaining about violations of children’s rights. “Each student should be free to choose the school and should not pay the price for politicians and the media’s failure,” one person tweeted.

Sweden has faced a deluge of refugees and asylum seekers from Syria, Afghanistan, and other states in recent years. In 2015, a record-breaking 162,877 migrants entered the country. The influx forced the Swedish authorities to introduce border controls and stiffen immigration policies. Migrants now constitute 25 percent of students at Swedish schools, according to local media.

Similar issues hit Germany, which opened its doors to asylum seekers in 2015. Every 10th student in Germany is a foreigner, according to 2018 state statistics.

So how does this blend with integration? Is it not promoting a segregated society with much reduced pressure on migrants to assimilate? We know from the UK that 2nd generation Muslim immigrants tend to be more devout Muslims than their parents. This spells disaster for European culture and for Jews and Christians in many countries.

A Muslim school in Birmingham, England, is still enforcing gender segregation by ordering girls not to eat their lunch until the boys have finished theirs, UK government school inspectors have told MPs.

Al-Hijrah school was instructed to end the unlawful practice by the Court of Appeal in 2017. However, Luke Tryl, director of corporate strategy at Ofsted, the government body charged with carrying out school inspections, says the West Midlands school is still contravening gender segregation rules.

Tryl also told the Parliamentary Women and Equalities Committee that the school continues to teach from “very discriminatory texts... encouraging violence against women.”

'Very discriminatory texts', that would be the Quran.

Ofsted rated the school as “inadequate” in 2016, according to the Birmingham Mail. Court of Appeal Judges ruled a year ago that Al-Hijrah, which is funded by the Birmingham City Council and is currently in “special measures” (meaning the school has let standards drop below an acceptable level and will be monitored for improvements over a period of time), was in contravention of the Equalities Act 2010, due to discrimination against its students.

In a letter to the school in October 2018, Ofsted accused its leaders and managers of not taking “effective action” to alleviate its special measures status.

"The Court of Appeal rightly said that schools needed a transition period where they were segregating and yet still we have not just Al-Hijrah, but we have countless other schools, mixed schools which are segregating on the basis of sex,” Mr Tryl told MPs

Tryl added that while Ofsted can highlight segregation in its inspection reports, it was the responsibility of the Department for Education to enforce equality laws.

The government’s education body reported in 2018 that British values were being “actively undermined” by Islamic extremists using schools as a means of “indoctrinating impressionable minds.”

Here is another example of integration being undermined. Governments are loath to do anything about it but complain lest they be called racist. Fear of being called racist has enabled incredible evil in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. Muslim schools should be forbidden. They will come back to haunt Europeans.

Britain Orders Extradition of India Tycoon on Conspiracy, Money Laundering Charges

Vijay Mallya faces charges of conspiracy to defraud, making false representations and money laundering in India.

(UPI) -- Britain, on Monday, approved the extradition of Indian businessman Vijay Mallya, who owes Indian banks an estimated $1.25 billion in unpaid loans.

British Home Secretary Sajid David signed the extradition order nearly three years after the businessman left India.

Mallya has 14 days to appeal the extradition and if there is no appeal, the extradition must occur within 28 days of the order. He said he offered to pay back the full amount owed in July.

"The anticipated appeal process starts 14 days from now. I can now appeal the Westminster magistrate's order," Mallya said, according to the Times of India. "I could not do so till the home secretary made a decision. After the court decision I said I would appeal and now I can.

In India, he faces charges of conspiracy to defraud, making false representations and money laundering.

London's Metropolitan Police arrested Mallya, 63, in April 2017 and released him on nearly $835,000 bail. Mallya entered Britain on a valid passport in March 2016 but India revoked it one month later and formally sought extradition on charges of financial irregularities at his defunct Kingfisher Airlines.

India and Britain have had an extradition treaty since 1993. The last fugitive to be extradited from Britain to India was Samirbhai Vinubhai Patel in 2016 for his alleged role in the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Mallya took over his father's Kingfisher beer company in 1983 and later bought stakes in his own Formula One racing team and a cricket franchise. He founded Kingfisher Airlines in 2003 but it stopped operations in 2012 and Mallya owed the estimated $1.25 billion in unpaid loans.

In 2016, creditors asked India's Supreme Court to require Mallya to remain in the country, but he had already departed.

In March last year, Mallya was blocked from receiving $75 million in severance pay after being ousted from United Spirits, the Indian subsidiary of British liquor giant Diageo.

Banks and creditors demanded the money should be used to settle some of Mallya's outstanding debts they are owed.

Creditors have auctioned Mallya's properties, including his beachfront property in Goa.

A former mayor campaigning on an anti-corruption ticket swept to victory in El Salvador's presidential election on Sunday, bringing an end to a two-party system that has held sway over the violence-plagued Central American country for three decades.

Nayib Bukele, the 37-year-old former mayor of the capital, San Salvador, won 54 per cent of votes with returns counted from 44 per cent of polling stations. His two rivals from mainstream political parties conceded defeat.

Bukele won more votes than all other candidates combined in his first-round sweep, highlighting deep voter frustration over the failure of the two main parties to tackle violence and corruption.

"This day is historic for our country. This day El Salvador destroyed the two-party system," Bukele told hundreds of Salvadorans who danced, waved flags and blew whistles in a San Salvador plaza that Bukele revitalized when he was mayor from 2015 to 2018.

Must contend with Trump's threats

His two rivals from the mainstream political parties conceded defeat.

Bukele must now contend with U.S. President Donald Trump's frequent threats to cut aid to El Salvador — as well as neighbouring Guatemala and Honduras — if they do not do more to curb migration to the United States.

At home, supporters hope that a third-party politician will usher in changes to improve a sluggish economy and widespread poverty.

"Let's see if he can do what he's promised for us," said a jubilant supporter, Baltazar Sanchez, 30, at Bukele's victory speech.

"After 30 years of two parties, we've been dealt the best hand."

Gang violence has made El Salvador one of the world's most murderous countries in the past few years, driving Salvadorans to flee to the north.

'Yes, we did it!'

Among his campaign promises, Bukele, an avid social media user who snapped a selfie with supporters before declaring his win, said he would push infrastructure projects to limit such migration.

Since the end of its civil war in 1992, El Salvador has been governed by the ruling leftist Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) and its rival, conservative Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA).

Though he describes himself as from the left and was expelled from the FMLN, Bukele has formed a coalition including a right-wing party that together has just 11 seats in the legislature.

Outside of the hotel in San Salvador where Bukele waited for the results, a group of supporters set off fireworks, beat drums and danced as early figures came in.

"Yes, we did it! Yes, we did it!" they chanted.

'The corrupt can't hide'

FMLN candidate Hugo Martinez conceded defeat shortly after Bukele's victory speech while ARENA candidate Carlos Calleja said he recognized the election results and would call Bukele to offer congratulations.

Definitive results would be announced within two days, Olivo said.

Besides challenges on the international stage, once Bukele takes office in June, he will face a sluggish economy and rampant poverty.

Along with the goal of modernizing government, Bukele, who is set to take office in June, has proposed creating an international anti-corruption commission with the support of the United Nations, following similar committees in Guatemala and Honduras.

"We'll create a [commission] ... so that the corrupt can't hide where they always hide, instead they'll have to give back what they stole," Bukele said in January.

'A dictator is a dictator'

Growing up, Bukele's relatively wealthy family was sympathetic to the FMLN, the former leftist guerrilla army that became a political party at the end of the civil war.

But Bukele has turned away from Latin America's traditional left, branding Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega as well as conservative Honduran Juan Orlando Hernandez as dictators.

"A dictator is a dictator, on the 'right' or the 'left'," Bukele wrote last week on Twitter.

He will need much help and much prayer if he is to overcome the social malaise that is El Salvador.

The sky may have been clear in Hawaii when Tulsi Gabbard read her speech promising to fight “greed and corruption,” but she enters her bid under a cloud of negative media coverage and accusations of being Russia's darling.

At first glance Gabbard would seem almost too perfect for the Democratic candidate to face Trump in 2020: a 37-year-old part-Samoan woman, who previously broke off a promising career in local politics to volunteer for combat zone service in Iraq, and is unfailingly popular with voters on her home island.

“What our country needs now more than ever is the spirit of Aloha. That spirit of respect and love for one another and for our country,” she said in a launch speech that the 2008 Barack Obama, himself, might have found too idealistically bland.

Hours earlier, in a two-author NBC investigation an entirely different picture had been painted of the “controversial” Gabbard – the centerpoint of “the first stirrings of an upcoming Russian campaign” in which the Kremlin “propaganda machine” would seek to inject pro-Russian positions into the Democratic Party's discussions and debates with help from “inauthentic accounts.”

Experts who track websites and social media linked to Russia have seen stirrings of a possible campaign of support for Hawaii Democrat Tulsi Gabbard.

I’m Not With Her

To understand why Gabbard is not treated as a customary feel-good story of a woman breaking multiple glass ceilings, but as a tool of the Kremlin, several pages of her biography need to be revisited.

The first, her resignation from the senior post of Vice President of the Democratic National Committee in protest at the lack of scheduled debates between front-runner Hillary Clinton and the rising Bernie Sanders, whom she subsequently went on to endorse.

The second, a now-famous meeting with Bashar Assad in 2017, and Gabbard’s insistence that Washington should not engage in “regime change” or sponsorship of radical militant organizations in Syria or anywhere else.

Those two incidents alone have pitted Gabbard against two major establishment forces, and that is before one gets into the details of her socialist-tinged platform from healthcare for all to anti-Wall Street policy proposals. Or her support of stronger border control, which puts her at odds with her party’s official position.

Friendly fire

None of Gabbard’s stances are beyond debate, but she may not even get as far as debating them in public with the other Democrat nominees, if her campaign is dead on arrival. And the media hasn’t been her friend.

All candidates face scrutiny and an airing of their skeletons, but not only has she received less airtime than fellow relative novices Cory Booker and Kamala Harris, but the overall coverage of Gabbard has been uncharacteristically toxic, perhaps comparable only to the Democratic ostracism of Howard Schultz, following the former Starbucks CEO’s unbidden decision to enter the race.

The favored genre has been the expose.

In the past month alone: CNN has dug up Gabbard’s activism and comments, some dating back to the late 1990s, when she was a teenager, against same-sex marriage, for a campaign backed by her legislator father. The Intercept has accused her of associating with Hindu Nationalists, while the Daily Beast has published an article under the title 'Horseshoe theory: Why Conservative Media and the Far Right Love Tulsi Gabbard for President', in which it was emphasized that the “enigmatic” Gabbard had “earned substantial praise” from, among others, white nationalist David Duke. Huffington Post accused her of hypocrisy for accepting money from arms manufacturers in the past, even though she never concealed that fact, and is in reality one of just several members of the House who explicitly refuse campaign donations.

Politico published a detailed dissection of her campaign being “in disarray” based on detailed unattributed revelations from the inside, while Daily Kos, the Democrat politics blog, has already endorsed her rival for the 2020 Congress run, which equates to the real election in a district where the Democrats have never lost against the GOP.

‘Defended’ her in an article – how dare they?

On Friday, came NBC’s coup de grace.

“An NBC News analysis of the main English-language news sites employed by Russia in its 2016 election meddling shows Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, who is set to make her formal announcement Saturday, has become a favorite of the sites Moscow used when it interfered in 2016,”  wrote the authors, one of whom Ben Popken, concluded that the Kremlin “has a crush” on Gabbard when he posted his article to Twitter.

The “analysis” – which appears to have been a name search – found that 20 articles have been published on Gabbard by RT (is it 21 now?), Sputnik and Russia Insider, twice as many as Joe Biden or Bernie Sanders. And not just that, but in these articles Gabbard was not mentioned “perfunctorily” but “celebrated” and “defended” despite her “lack of voter recognition.”

Even supposing that all that is correct, does RT have to cover Joe Biden every time it mentions Tulsi Gabbard? Elizabeth Warren? Julian Castro? Should CNN stop putting Kamala Harris in almost every piece about the race? As a non-US news outlet is RT allowed to find her non-interventionist views more interesting for its international audience than those of a status quo Democratic runner? What about as an alternative media outlet? Should covering a candidate who “lacks voter recognition” be considered suspicious? How much of this is sufficient to justify accusations of meddling and being branded a “Russian troll” and presumably sanctioned? Does all of this apply when the US media writes about Juan Guaido in Venezuela?

But wait, there are also “experts who track inauthentic social media accounts” who back this up.

“A few of our analysts saw some chatter on 8chan saying she was a good 'divider' candidate to amplify,” New Knowledge's director of research Renee DiResta told NBC. 8chan? Chatter? Also New Knowledge? The establishment Democrat tech outfit that has just been caught planting and creating fake Russian bots in the Alabama election as part of a false flag operation. They are your experts, NBC?

Even much of Dem-voting Twitter was appalled at such a ham-fisted smear job.

Incompetent, threat or victim of smear campaign?
The media are now fulfilling their own prophecies, as they publish pieces about the “rocky” or “chaotic” start to Gabbard’s campaign. As she keeps going on the defensive – apologizing for the gay marriage remarks, standing firm on Assad meeting – the Hawaiian representative may survive or wilt.

But two questions remain: Is Gabbard just a stumbling novice with odd views, or is the media trying to systematically bury her, as opposed to informing their readers, all because she presents a threat to accepted positions? And secondly, is it doing so at the behest of and with help from a network of influence, be it DNC operatives, or Washington insiders? If the answer to the first question is “the latter” or to the second is “yes,” perhaps instead of spending so much time on our website, investigative reporters should have a look at the provenance and motivations behind some of their own coverage.

CNN Commentator Calls Trump ‘Antithesis of Christ’s Teachings’, Faces Social Media Retribution

Democratic strategist Maria Cardona went after White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders about “election interference” of a much higher order, arguing over God’s plans for Donald Trump.

CNN’s OutFront became the unlikely platform for a debate on divine will on Wednesday, when guests were asked to discuss Sarah Sander’s stated belief that God himself had chosen Trump to become president.

Cardona was not happy with Sanders’ interpretation of God’s design, responding that if Trump’s victory was preordained, “it is because he wanted to punish us for taking our democracy for granted, and for not ensuring that every person got out there to vote.”

Despite having personally chosen to work on Hillary Clinton’s campaign, Cardona was unable to figure out why God would choose someone "who doesn’t understand the words truth, honesty, integrity, honor, forgiveness.”

“I could go on and on about how this president is actually the antithesis of Jesus Christ’s teachings and anything that real Christians [...] would believe in,” she continued.

Astonishing! 

Commentators were quick to criticize her authority in making such a statement. While Cardona describes herself as a Catholic, her liberal positions on abortion rights, gay marriage and divorce are not exactly in keeping with the religious canon.

While many who engaged in the debate agreed that a “higher power” had influenced the elections, not everyone thought that power was other-wordly.

Cardona is not the first to try to defeat Sanders on her own terms. Just last week, Democratic rising star Ocasio-Cortez quoted the bible in the course of an argument with the press secretary about the role of humanity in combating climate change.

Aside from the obvious hypocrisy here, the idea that anyone on CNN could speak for God or even come close to understanding Him is so utterly absurd as to be hysterical. As someone who believes in abortion and gay rights, she has no basis for calling anyone but herself the antithesis of Christ's teachings. As Jesus said, "let him who is without sin cast the first stone". 

That doesn't mean that I am without sin, but I'm not casting the first stone, or even the second.

Her statement about God punishing us for taking democracy for granted is ludicrously stupid. Jesus said nothing about politics anywhere in the Bible, "except render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's". Jesus was entirely concerned with spiritual matters.

The Old Testament, when we were under the Law rather than grace, has many examples of God placing people in authority. Sometimes they were godly people, sometimes they were heinous men, as God prepared His people for punishment. Those people were never punished for political reasons, but always for spiritual adultery or abandonment.

When people place the rights of women to have an abortion as opposed to having a righteous and healthy sexual life, that is an abandonment of anything resembling the fear of God. I could go further on this theme but it would not make it through the sensors.

Hurricane Sandy was an obvious act of God that resulted in Barack Obama winning the 2012 elections. So, whether you are a Republican or Democrat, whether you think Trump or Obama is evil, God placed them in the White House for His own purpose, which will become obvious in due time. 

Meanwhile, the apostles wrote that those in authority require our respect and our prayers, not our criticism.

A man was caught posing as a doctor in a clinic in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk. Obtaining a fake diploma turned out to be the least of his crimes, however, as he had committed a blood-chilling murder two decades ago.

The man, identified as Boris Kondrashin, had been working in one of the city’s state clinics as a GP since November. He was arrested this week for producing fake documents in relation to his medical training, as well as storing a large stash of illegal drugs in his apartment, according to Russian investigators.

While this part of the story was scandalous enough on its own, it turned out to be only the tip of the iceberg, and the fake doctor had a blood-chilling background. When he was just 16, he murdered a classmate in a vicious ritual killing.

Back then, he was a rather strange schoolboy, who was keen on exploring the occult and black-magic rituals, according to an article by a local newspaper dating back to 2000. Kondrashin identified himself as ‘Baron fon Ginczel’ – and apparently did actually have links to nobility – and lived with his father, who was a psychiatrist.

Living with a psychiatrist father is probably enough to drive anyone crazy, but the father was, obviously, not very good at what he did or he would have realized his son had some extremely serious mental health issues.

While the teenager was not exactly popular at school, he had access to his father’s stash of potent drugs, and used to supply them to his schoolmates. One of them eventually fell victim to the aspiring “vampire.”

According to a report, Kondrashin lured his classmate to his apartment and killed him with a lethal dose of a tranquilizer drug. He then dismembered his victim, sampled his liver, and ultimately tore out his heart. He then squeezed the blood out of the organ and drank it from a silver goblet. The “vampire” also tore out his classmate’s eyes and severed his hands, keeping them in formalin as proof of his deal with demons.

As the rest of the body was carelessly disposed of right next to the building where the “vampire” resided, he was swiftly apprehended and ultimately deemed insane, getting a 10-year sentence of compulsory treatment in an asylum.

Would that be under the care of psychiatrists as talented and capable as the boy's dad?

It remains unclear what exactly gave away the vampire-turned-doctor in his new role, as media provided conflicting reports on the matter. Some outlets claimed that a former classmate recognized him after visiting the “doctor.” Others, however, suggested that a veteran psychiatrist who was familiar with Kondrashin’s case saw his profile online. Apart from that, the “doctor” was also apparently active on social media using his other, special alias – Ginczel.

Former SNC-Lavalin CEO Pierre Duhaime pleaded guilty to helping a public servant commit breach of trust in a Montreal courtroom Friday morning, six years after he was first arrested in a major fraud case related to a new hospital complex.

According to the Crown, Duhaime, 64, admitted to turning a blind eye to bribes made by his company in order to rig the bidding process so SNC-Lavalin would win the contract to build the new McGill University Hospital Centre (MUHC) superhospital in Montreal.

That contract was worth $1.3 billion.

"Instead of acting upon that knowledge, and stopping this from happening, which he could have done, he chose to look the other way," said prosecutor Robert Rouleau.

Quebec's anti-corruption squad arrested Duhaime in November 2012 on 15 charges, including fraud, conspiracy and forgery. Fourteen of those charges were withdrawn Friday.

​Duhaime's trial was supposed to begin next Monday.

He was alleged to have paid a total of $22.5 million in bribes to secure the MUHC contract. Of that money, $10 million went to Yanaï Elbaz, the former director of redevelopment for the MUHC.

Provincial court Judge Dominique Joly accepted a joint recommendation from the defence and Crown that Duhaime be sentenced to 20 months of house arrest, 240 hours of community service, and make a $200,000 donation to a fund that compensates victims of crime.

The wealthy have their own judicial system. House arrest!!!? Mind you, SNC Lavalin has been involved in corruption accusations all over the world as bribery is a way of life in construction, not just in Quebec but, most likely, in nearly every country. If a company is going to compete internationally, they have to play the game.

4th to plead guilty

Duhaime is the fourth person to plead guilty to charges in connection with the hospital contract, which one Quebec police investigator has called "the biggest case of corruption fraud in Canadian history."

Last November, Elbaz was sentenced to 39 months in prison after pleading guilty to charges including breach of trust and conspiracy.

Riadh Ben Aissa, SNC-Lavalin's former vice-president of construction, was sentenced to 51 months in prison in July. He pleaded guilty to one charge of using a forged document.

Pamela Porter, the wife of Arthur Porter, the former chief executive of MUHC who died in Panama in 2015, was jailed for money laundering in 2014. 

Duhaime hasn't been CEO of the engineering company since 2012, when he stepped down after an internal audit found he signed off on "improper payments" to undisclosed agents.
