Covid_19 > Trump Right, Fauci Wrong - CNN journo

Former CNN ‘Journalist’ Makes a Stunning Admission About Fauci

New in PJ Media:

Throughout Chris Cillizza’s long career as a “journalist” and “political commentator,” he has shown himself repeatedly to be a dutiful propagandist for the left, never daring to get even close to an independent thought and instead faithfully reflecting whatever the political and media elites wanted him to think. And that is still largely the case, but these are unusual times, and even Cillizza has demonstrated a shocking level of independence for a leftist journo, even daring to say that Donald Trump, the veritable focus of evil in the modern world, may have been right about something. Et tu, Cillizza? Yes: for the left, it has come even to this.

Cillizza wrote on X Monday: “I screwed up. Back in May 2020, I wrote how Anthony Fauci had ‘crushed’ Donald Trump’s lab-leak theory for how Covid-19 originated The CIA said over the weekend that they now believed the virus leaked from a lab.”

To get an idea of how big this admission is, consider that Cillizza’s Substack bears a heading that boasts about Trump’s disdain for him: “So What: Donald Trump once called me ‘one of the dumber and least respected of the political pundits.’ So I got that going for me. I write about politics — mostly — with humor, transparency, and authenticity. 2-3 posts a day.” Well, he writes about politics, anyway, and actually approached some transparency and authenticity in his Monday thread on X.

Cillizza noted a recent assessment from the CIA — and they wouldn’t lie to us, now, would they? “Here’s a CIA spokesperson: ‘CIA assesses with low confidence that a research-related origin of the COVID-19 pandemic is more likely than a natural origin based on the available body of reporting.’” Since this so sharply differs from what the CIA and the entire political and media establishment were telling us at the time, it is worth crediting, even though it does come from the CIA. And Cillizza was man enough to recognize its implications for his previous “reporting.”

Cillizza followed up the CIA assessment with this: “Which, if you’re keeping track, is what Donald Trump and lots of prominent conservatives — most notably Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton — have been saying for a very long time now. And, candidly, they have taken a lot of s**t for it. Including from me.” He even added: “My belief back then was that if this was a debate between Donald Trump and Anthony Fauci on the origins of a pandemic-level virus, I was going to go with the guy who spent his entire career studying this stuff, not the reality TV-star-turned-president.” And: “Except, it now appears that the reality TV-star-turned-president was right. And Anthony Fauci was wrong.”

The Media is the Message > After ABC's $15 million Trump settlement, it's CNN's turn to pay up for fake news

So Trump Was Right All Along: Court Finds That

CNN Is Fake News

New in PJ Media:

The establishment media is finally being exposed for what it really is — the propaganda arm for the hard left — and it’s a glorious thing to see. Two flagship media outlets, pillars of the “journalistic” establishment, have now lost defamation cases and must pony up millions as a result. This is extremely good news for those who value the truth and are tired of these moneyed, undeservedly respected propaganda outlets manipulating the American people.

A month ago, ABC and its far-left propagandist George Stephanopoulos reached a settlement with Donald Trump, who had sued them for defamation. The settlement involved the network forking over $15 million to Trump; it also precluded Trump’s suit from going to trial. which showed that ABC’s top dogs understood how weak their case really was: they were happy to pony up $15 million to make this thing go away rather than have a trial reveal just how far from actual journalism they had allowed themselves to stray.

On Friday, it was CNN’s turn. Fox News reported that “a jury found that CNN committed defamation against U.S. Navy veteran Zachary Young and is responsible for punitive damages on Friday after more than eight hours of deliberation. The jury ruled Young is awarded $4 million in lost earnings, $1 million in personal damages such as pain and suffering and said that punitive damages are warranted against CNN.”

That’s $20 million and counting in judgments against establishment who were caught manipulating and spinning the news while loudly and repeatedly insisting that they were telling nothing but the straight truth. CNN’s chest-thumping proclamation that it is the “most trusted name in news” has been a joke for years, but now it has been confirmed in court that anyone who trusts CNN probably also thinks that Old Joe Biden has been a capable, competent president and that Hamas is a valiant army of freedom fighters engaged in “resistance” against an “occupier.”

The rulings against ABC and CNN are sweet victory for those who have been insisting for years that the media was biased, only for far-left “fact checkers” and those same media outlets to dismiss any concern about their agenda, perspective, or accuracy as right-wing conspiracy theorizing.

After all, the news media has been a leftist mouthpiece for decades, but only since Donald Trump became a presidential candidate and then president of the United States did that become too obvious to deny. As far back as 1962, when Richard Nixon lost his race for governor of California, he excoriated the press for its leftist bias and famously declared: “You won’t have Nixon to kick around anymore, because, gentlemen, this is my last press conference.”

The Media is the Message > Honest Reporting is Upsetting CNN

..

CNN IS FURIOUS THIS VIDEO HASN’T BEEN TAKEN DOWN YET

Israel Unwired

The best place to be an Arab in the Middle East is the State of Israel. That is based on defining good as being a place that has freedom of speech, freedom of religion, excellent and affordable medical care, and possibilities of upward mobility. All of these are things that the State of Israel offers Arabs. All of the above are things that cannot all be received in any other country in the Middle East.

However, CNN continues to argue the same old lie that Israel is a horrible place for Arabs to live. It has never been true and is less connected to reality today than at any other time.

Israel has Supreme Court Justices that are Arab. Israel’s lead doctors who ran the coronavirus response were Arabs. Israel’s Knesset allows for Arab members to speak freely against the very existence of the State of Israel. These are not opinions, but hard facts. And for the liberals who care deeply about human rights and the role of women in society, there is nothing to discuss in terms of where Arab women and minorities have it better. Plain and simple, the most Western and democratic oriented country in the Middle East is Israel – by far.

But some time in the 90’s, CNN took a hard left anti-Israel position, and has never truly strayed from that path. But it can be changed. Twitter adopted an anti-free speech position by Jack Dorsey. But now Elon Musk is shifting gears over there. CNN can also change gears. They do not need to cede as much market share to Fox News as they have. They can recover with a return to reasonable reporting that is balanced and focused more on facts and less on opinion.

Fox News is by no means a perfect network, but CNN has gone so far off the deep end in the direction of woke progressivism that Fox News easily walked in and grabbed their market share. It’s not too late to make the sea change necessary to win back more viewers. But first, the dedication to truth must Trump all ideological bias.

Russia issues ‘metaverse’ warning

Regulators in Russia are looking into the possibility of new restrictions on virtual reality (VR), saying they are worried that it could enable illegal activity, while acknowledging that the “metaverse” also offers new possibilities for human interaction.

The Scientific Technical Center of Roskomnadzor, the federal agency responsible for monitoring mass media, released a report on Wednesday, assessing what it sees as the potential risks and possibilities of VR spaces where people are able to interact across national borders.

The term “metaverse,” which comes out of science fiction, refers to 3D virtual worlds focused on human social connection, and it has increasingly been the focus of tech companies, including the US company Facebook, which recently rebranded as Meta.

According to the report, the metaverse could lend itself to illegal transactions conducted in cryptocurrency, including trade between people of different nationalities that could violate border regulations. The authors claim that virtual spaces would be ripe for drug dealing or trafficking of other banned substances.

The report also cites concerns about the consequences that virtual interaction has for human behavior. The authors write, “The transformation of perception on account of being located in the metaverse will have a meaningful cultural effect on society and will change social behavior, including reducing the importance of moral and ethical norms due to the use of a virtual avatar.” They warn that this could particularly affect children, “the most vulnerable group in the new metaverse.

As I say frequently, it's children who pay the price for adults' madness. Also, paedophiles are the first demographic, IMHO, to master any new social media platform and are there waiting for our children to arrive. For example, a beta tester for Meta was online for less than a minute before her avatar was gang-raped. Think about that! These are beta testers who immediately raped another beta tester.

The frightening thing about Meta is that paedos and rapists and people who like to encourage children to suicide will be much more willing to express their evil natures through an avatar. Social media has already messed up a generation of children and this will raise that destruction level to a whole nuther degree.

Pornographers will take over a good portion of this platform, because they can and because there is money to be made.

Is there any way to stop this madness?

In addition to assessing the potential risks of virtual reality, the report also provides an overview of its possibilities, including the growth of new marketplaces, such as an increased demand for video games and online forms of entertainment. The authors also claim that increased online life has made new forms of political activity possible, and they refer to Greta Thunberg, the activist who raised awareness for the dangers of climate change using her online profile.

Mark Zuckerberg could face jail time under new law,

minister warns

UK Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries said Big Tech bosses could ‘absolutely’

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other Big Tech executives risk ending up in jail if their social media platforms do not block content deemed harmful under upcoming online safety laws, UK Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries has warned.

Speaking to Times Radio on Saturday, Dorries said Zuckerberg, who heads Meta, Facebook’s parent company, and other tech bosses could “absolutely” be put behind bars if they did not comply with the government’s draft Online Safety Bill. She expressed hope that the legislation would be a “notice to the online platforms to say here it is, we’re letting you know what it is now, so start doing what you need to do.”

Under the bill’s proposed ‘duty of care’ regime, communications regulator Ofcom’s powers could jail tech executives for up to two years for failing to remove illegal content, The Telegraph reported. The government had announced on Friday that several new criminal offenses had been added to the bill, including revenge porn, hate crime, fraud, the sale of illegal drugs or weapons, the promotion or facilitation of suicide, people-smuggling, and sexual exploitation.

The government claimed that naming these offenses would enable Ofcom to take enforcement action against non-compliant firms more quickly. But Dorries said these platforms “don’t need to wait for the bill” since they “have the powers to [take action] now.”

What [tech firms] need to do now is to remove those harmful algorithms on [their] platforms. Stop directing people to suicide chat rooms, stop allowing [pile-on] hate, stop allowing people-trafficking, stop allowing threats of hate, violence and rape, and remove it all now.

However, critics like the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) have dismissed her claims as “rhetoric.”

Andy Burrows, NSPCC head of child safety online policy, told The Independent that “tech bosses wouldn’t be personally liable for the harmful effects of their algorithms or failing to prevent grooming, and could only be prosecuted for failing to supply information to the regulator.”

Meanwhile, the Labour Party called for tougher sanctions against senior tech executives, with shadow culture secretary Lucy Powell stating that Ofcom would face a “David and Goliath situation” when “taking on some of the biggest tech firms in the world” and needed “access to the full range of tools in its belt, including making top bosses criminally liable for persistently failing to tackle online harms.”

Meta or other tech giants have not commented on Dorries’ claims as yet.

German state-owned broadcaster drops staffers

after antisemitism probe

Five Deutsche Welle personnel were fired, though the investigation found

no “structural” issue with antisemitism

©  Oliver Berg/picture alliance via Getty Images

Deutsche Welle, Germany’s public broadcaster, announced this week that five staff members had been let go after a probe which looked into antisemitic comments made on and off the job, and also examined its recruiting processes, as well as the diversity of guest speakers.

Besides the five staffers, four of whom worked at the Arabic desk, some freelancers for the outlet have also been terminated, and the investigation is ongoing.

So far, it has not uncovered evidence of a systematic problem at the public broadcaster, which receives hundreds of millions in federal funds every year.

Individual instances of antisemitism include one journalist referring to Israel as a “cancer,” according to Bild newspaper, and a recruiter comparing Jewish people to “ants,” and even Holocaust denial, according to the investigative report from Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) that helped kick off the internal investigation.

The probe began in December and was conducted by independent investigators. Only publicly available information like social media posts was analyzed for it.

The company also announced that it would be providing staff members and business partners with “detailed guidelines” on what defines antisemitism, and there will be “additional hires” for the Israel correspondence office.

Another One Gone At CNN: Gollust Announces Her Resignation

From Network

Carmine Sabia
February 16, 2022

OPINION: This article may contain commentary which reflects the author's opinion.

Not to mention commentary which reflects the editor's opinion.

It has been around two weeks since former CNN head Jeff Zucker resigned from his position at the network, citing an inappropriate relationship with a co-worker, and now that co-worker has resigned.

Allison Gollustthe former lieutenant to Zucker, resigned after an investigation “into issues associated with” Chris Cuomo, a former CNN anchor, and his brother Andrew, the former governor of New York, a memo sent to staffers by WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar said, CNN reported.

“Based on interviews of more than 40 individuals and a review of over 100,000 texts and emails, the investigation found violations of Company policies, including CNN’s News Standards and Practices, by Jeff Zucker, Allison Gollust, and Chris Cuomo,” he said to staffers.

“We have the highest standards of journalistic integrity at CNN, and those rules must apply to everyone equally,” he said. “Given the information provided to me in the investigation, I strongly believe we have taken the right actions and the right decisions have been made.”

So, is this an admission that with Cuomo, Zucker and Gollust the highest standards of journalistic integrity were not met?

Gollust issued a statement announcing her departure from the company on Tuesday.

“WarnerMedia’s statement tonight is an attempt to retaliate against me and change the media narrative in the wake of their disastrous handling of the last two weeks,” she said. “It is deeply disappointing that after spending the past nine years defending and upholding CNN’s highest standards of journalistic integrity, I would be treated this way as I leave. But I do so with my head held high, knowing that I gave my heart and soul to working with the finest journalists in the world.”

There's that phrase again. Apparently, Gollust has over-estimated her standards.

Reports have indicated that Chris Cuomo is getting set for a major lawsuit against the network.

After his former boss Jeff Zucker exited the network, sources say that Cuomo wants a settlement of around $60 million, The New York Post reported.

Multiple sources tell Page Six that Cuomo — who was fired in December for helping his brother, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, fend off sexual harassment allegations — is ready to dig his heels in by claiming that Zucker not only knew about his dealings with the governor but that the network boss had his own inappropriate dealings with Andrew.

And he is prepared to demand not the $18 million left on his contract, but as much as $60 million.

“He wants Megyn Kelly money,” sources said to The Post.

“Chris insists he never did anything for his brother Andrew that Zucker didn’t know about,” a source said.

“His camp believes Zucker wasn’t fired for an inappropriate relationship with Allison Gollust. Everybody knew about that and nobody cared.

“What he believes happened is WarnerMedia found something in their investigation into Chris, perhaps internal memos or documents which revealed more about Zucker’s involvement with Andrew Cuomo. Gollust was just a convenient excuse,” they said.

That's been my theory ever since Zucker stepped down.

“Chris intends to fight for every dollar on his contract, and loss of income from the 15 to 20 years left in his career, had Zucker not orchestrated a ‘f–k-job’ on him. He could ask for as much as $80 million but CNN isn’t going to pay that. But there’s an argument he could ask for as much as $60 million,” the source said.

Another source said that “Chris is telling people in the Hamptons he was wrongly fired, humiliated, his career has been ruined, and he wants Megyn Kelly money.”

For reference, Kelly got $69 million from NBC after she was fired in 2019 when she defended blackface on her show.

Sources have said that Zucker “coached Andrew Cuomo [on] what to say in his press conferences, particularly how to hit back at President Donald Trump. He advised him when, and where, and what to say. He chastised Andrew if he appeared on other networks.

“When this all finally comes out, it will put an end to the big cry fest going on at CNN over Zucker’s ousting,” they said.

WarnerMedia chief executive Jason Kilar met with CNN staff in DC on Monday the idea of a severance package for Cuomo was talked about and staff did not appear to be on board.

Jake Tapper, the host of the CNN show “The Lead” referred to Cuomo as a “terrorist” who wants to attack the network.

“How do we get past this perception that this is the bad guy winning?” New York Times reporter Michael M. Grynbaum reported.

You can't! They're all bad guys.

“Did you think about what message it sends to the journalists in the company and also to the larger public that someone can be found to break with those journalistic standards and then get paid handsomely for it?” CNN host Don Lemon said, the Wall Street Journal reported.

It's a sad commentary considering how journalistic standards have fallen so far in recent decades.

Journalist claims he was ‘canceled’ for investigating Fauci

The fired journalist had earlier revealed that the White House chief medical advisor

was being paid more than President Biden himself

A longtime Forbes contributor said on Monday that he was sacked from the magazine for his coverage of the financial dealings of Dr. Anthony Fauci, including a report on the White House chief medical advisor’s whopping $350,000 retirement package.

Adam Andrzejewski had been working with Forbes for the last eight years, coming up with more than 200 columns for the outlet.

But it’s the four pieces on Fauci last year that got him in trouble, the investigative journalist insisted in his appearance on Fox News.

“Clearly Forbes editors didn’t want our oversight of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s finances” and that’s the reason his column was “canceled,” Andrzejewski, who is also the CEO and founder of the website OpenTheBooks.com, told host Tucker Carlson.

According to the journalist, six top executives at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently sent him and a Forbes’ top content officer an email with complaints over his coverage.

“It was couched as a corrections email, but the corrections – there [were] basically no substantial corrections – and they quibbled about small things in my column,” he said.

In spite of all this, the letter became “the excuse that Forbes used to cancel the column.”

Within 24 hours after that email, he was contacted by his editor at Forbes, who told him that he was “barred from publishing on Anthony Fauci any longer,” Andrzejewski said.

The journalist reminded the audience that his pieces on the White House chief medical advisor, who became one of the most often-mentioned names in US media during the Covid-19 pandemic, were “tip of the spear” and garnered millions of views for Forbes.

Among other things, he revealed that Fauci was the highest-paid government employee in 2019. Fauci makes $456,000 annually, according to the journalist, which is more than US President Joe Biden, whose salary stands at $400,000 per year. Fauci’s wife, Christine Grady – who, incidentally, works as chief bioethicist at the National Institutes of Health – and Fauci himself made 1.7 million in 2020.

“So if you take their salaries, tack on the taxpayer-paid cost of federal benefits at 30 percent, the two Faucis, their household income, paid for by taxpayers every year is $900,000,” Andrzejewski said, estimating the net worth of the Fauci family at $10.4 million.

When contacted by the New York Post, Forbes spokesman Bill Hankes confirmed that Andrzejewski was no longer working with them. “Forbes regularly removes contributors who don’t meet our high editorial standards,” he explained, while pointing out the journalist’s previous columns of Fauci were still available on the magazine’s website.

There's that phrase again - high editorial standards. In spite of that, the columns are still available on Forbes' website. Go figure!

The paper also featured Andrzejewski, who insisted that “today, if you are an independent voice, outside of the organs of state authority, you are in jeopardy. I am an example of this. My column at Forbes became an example of that.”

YouTuber in Joe Rogan feud deletes interviews with Jordan Peterson

The podcaster made headlines recently for a one-sided feud with Joe Rogan on Covid-19

YouTuber and podcaster Ethan Klein has announced that he’s removed two previous interviews he conducted “years ago” with psychologist Jordan Peterson, describing the author as offering a “dangerous gateway” to extremist views.

So, now it's not only verboten to have extremist views, but it's also bad to have views that might lead on toward extremism. That's a little like thought police.

In a tweet on Friday, Klein admitted Peterson had been an “interesting” guest with whom he’d “enjoyed” talking, but said he’d since become more familiar with his political views, which he said propagated transphobia and Covid-19 misinformation.

“I can see he’s a dangerous gateway to alt-right, transphobia, and Covid [misinformation],” The ‘H3 Podcast’ host tweeted about Peterson, informing his followers the interviews had been taken down.

Klein’s decision was questioned by some on social media, however, including Peterson himself, who warned the podcaster that those “who engage in cancel culture generally live to regret it.”

“You will be held to higher and higher and soon impossible to maintain ethical standards by the very mob you currently wish to please,” Peterson wrote. “Then you will make a mistake, and they will devour you. With glee. Please take this warning seriously. I liked you.”

Klein responded to Peterson, saying he found him “interesting” and “amicable” as a person, but couldn’t condone his views on Covid vaccine policies, for which he said he didn’t want to be a “pipeline.”

Klein recently criticized Ultimate Fighting Championship commentator and fellow podcaster Joe Rogan, who has hosted Peterson on his show a number of times. He accused Rogan of spreading vaccine misinformation and dubbed him a "expletive deleted" with no authority to speak about health matters, which provoked a swift response on Twitter.

Klein’s stand against Peterson has earned him similar criticism online, with some accusing the YouTuber of piggybacking on controversial political topics so as to have social media “meltdowns” that then gain him publicity.

Secret of ‘microwave weapons’ targeting US diplomats revealed

The rise and fall of ‘Havana Syndrome’ is a story of lazy assumptions and sloppy reporting

By Paul Robinson, a professor at the University of Ottawa. He writes about Russian and Soviet history, military history and military ethics, and is author of the Irrussianality blog. He tweets at @Irrussianality.

US diplomats and security officials suffering from a spate of unexplained health problems were victims of Russian microwave weapons, we were told time and time again. But now the CIA admits Moscow wasn’t actually behind “Havana Syndrome.” The story fits a disturbingly familiar pattern of misinformation.

With each passing week, the list of discredited allegations against Russia grows and grows. Time and time again, Western governments and the media have sprung into action to inform us of some new evil plot, only to backpedal later when it became clear that there was nothing to it.

Take, for instance, the multi-year saga that was Russiagate, built on the idea that Donald Trump was a Russian agent. There are still some believers, but for the most part people lost interest once it became clear that it was a load of baloney and that the “Steele Dossier” that sparked it off wasn’t worth the paper it was written on.

Then there were the claims that Russia was arming the Taliban, that it had inserted malware into the Vermont electrical grid, that it had bankrolled Brexit via British businessman Arron Banks, and so on. All are now discredited.

Yet the allegations keep on coming. A case in point is the story of Havana Syndrome, which was in the news again this week. For those of you who have missed it, Havana Syndrome is the name given to mysterious symptoms experienced by hundreds of American diplomats and CIA agents around the world, including “headaches, fatigue, hearing and vision loss, severe and debilitating cognitive impairment, tinnitus, brain fog, vertigo, and loss of motor control.”

Such a wide set of symptoms casts immediate doubt on whether there is a single cause. Nevertheless, speculation soon ran rife that they were all examples of a single “syndrome,” and that American diplomats were being targeted by some sort of unknown microwave emitter designed to fry peoples’ brains.

After examining four possible causes of Havana Syndrome – infection, chemicals, psychological factors, and microwave energy – a US government report concluded that “directed pulse RF [radio frequency] energy… appears to be the most plausible mechanism.” Havana Syndrome was “real, and it is serious,” remarked CIA Director William Burns, adding that there was a “very strong possibility” that it was the result of intentional actions.

Who might be doing such a thing? In public, US government officials avoided naming names, admitting that they lacked the evidence to do so. In private, however, the finger was pointed firmly at the Russian Federation, a charge rapidly amplified by the international media.

Thus the New York Times reported that officials “familiar with the report” mentioned above said that the country behind the “attacks” was Russia. CIA veteran Lewis Regenstein claimed that Russian/Soviet attacks of this sort had been going on since the 1950s, penning an article for the Washington Times headlined “68 years of Russian microwave radiation attacks on Americans with impunity.” “Russians use ‘secret microwave weapon’ to target American spies across the globe,” claimed The Sun. And so on. The media had made its mind up – Russia was to blame.

Why the Russian secret services might be doing this has never been explained, with some experts speculating that Havana Syndrome was the result of deliberate attacks, and others believing that the harm to humans was an unintended side effect of some scanning machine designed to extract intelligence from diplomats’ electronic devices. Either way, the Russians were responsible, even though not the slightest jot of evidence in support of this thesis has ever been publicly produced.

It didn’t take long, though, for skeptics to come up with other theories. One was that the syndrome was caused by the loud noise made by crickets. Support for this theory later came in a report commissioned by the US State Department that concluded crickets were the most likely culprits in 21 recorded cases.

Late last year, another theory emerged. Havana Syndrome was “a mass psychogenic illness,” a group of US scientists decided. It was, they said, an example of the “nocebo effect, the opposite of the placebo effect. In this, expectations of something negative happening to one’s health causes something negative to happen. After the initial incident in Cuba, US diplomats were told to look out for “anomalous health” issues, and as a result they started feeling them. In effect, it was all in their heads.

Whatever the truth, the story of Russian microwave weapons continued to gain traction. But it now seems that even the CIA is having doubts. According to reports this Thursday,

“In a new intelligence assessment, the CIA has ruled out that the mysterious symptoms known as Havana Syndrome are the result of a sustained global campaign by a hostile power aimed at hundreds of US diplomats and spies, six people briefed on the matter told NBC News.

In about two dozen cases, the agency cannot rule out foreign involvement, including many of the cases that originated at the US Embassy in Havana beginning in 2016. Another group of cases is considered unresolved. But in hundreds of other cases of possible symptoms, the agency has found plausible alternative explanations, the sources said.

The idea that widespread brain injury symptoms have been caused by Russia or another foreign power targeting Americans around the world, either to harm them or to collect intelligence, has been deemed unfounded, the sources said.

Oh dear! How embarrassing. For sure, there are still a few cases in which the cause of illness remains unknown and so foreign involvement “cannot be ruled out.” But that is hardly evidence for ruling it in. This latest assessment knocks the “Russia done it” narrative for six.

In short, once again we found that we’ve been fed a tissue of lies. By now, we should hardly be surprised, but the whole affair speaks to the credulity of much of our political and media establishment, and to the need for a much more cautious and evidence-based approach to allegations of wrongdoing.

It’s common nowadays to complain of the public’s lack of trust in traditional political and media institutions. One of the reasons for this is that people have become skeptical of the old “gatekeepers” of the truth due to their tendency to shout wolf at every available opportunity. If people believe disinformation coming from newer sources, it’s because they’ve become disenchanted by the misinformation coming from the old ones. The latter are under threat, but they have only themselves to blame.

You would think at some point the government and media would become horribly embarrassed by their own stupidity, but they don't seem to be. They'll be ready to jump on the next bandwagon heading to Russia.

Ukraine asks West to tone down ‘panic’

Volodymyr Zelensky has blasted the West for causing panic

FILE PHOTO. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticized the “slightly imbalanced” coverage of the situation surrounding his country exhibited by some Western politicians and media. He was speaking to foreign reporters during a major press conference on Friday.

The former entertainer particularly emphasised his concerns about press coverage, and political statements, concerning an alleged Russian military build up near his country's frontier.

“Today we are not seeing any greater escalation than it has been before. Yes, the number of servicemen has increased, but I spoke about that at the beginning of 2021 when they talked about the military exercises of the Russian Federation,” Zelensky stated.

“From media coverage, it looks like we are at war already, that troops are already on the road, that there's mobilization, people going somewhere. It's not the case. We don’t need this panic.”

Overhyping the tensions around Ukraine has already had a heavy impact on its economy, Zelensky insisted. Billions have been withdrawn from the country, in recent times, he added, without specifying whether he was referring to the domestic Grivna currency, or those of foreign nations.

The president also touched upon phone talks with his US counterpart Joe Biden, which took place earlier in the day. Zelensky dismissed media reports that they didn't go well, insisting that there were no disagreements with the US president.

“We do not have any misunderstanding with the president of the United States. Simply, I deeply understand what is happening in my country, and he understands well what is going on in the US,” Zelensky explained.

Ouch! That was a good one!

At the same time, the Ukrainian leader admitted that he might have some secrets to keep from Biden.

I think that as the president of an independent country, I can have my own secrets, just like the president of the US.

White House calls CNN report on Russian invasion ‘completely false’

The White House has pushed back on a CNN report about Thursday’s phone call between US President Joe Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, calling it “completely false.”

“President Biden said that there is a distinct possibility that the Russians could invade Ukraine in February. He has previously said this publicly and we have been warning about this for months. Reports of anything more or different than that are completely false,” Emily Horne, a spokeswoman for the National Security Council, tweeted on Thursday evening.

She was responding to a tweet by CNN’s senior national security correspondent, Alexander Marquardt, who was quoting his colleague in Kiev, Matthew Chance.

“A Russian invasion is now virtually certain once the ground freezes, Biden said to Zelensky, a senior Ukrainian official told [Chance]. Kyiv could be ‘sacked,’ Russian forces may attempt to occupy it, ‘prepare for impact’, Biden said, according to this official,” Marquardt tweeted.

CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper had Chance cite “the Ukrainian official” live on air.

“The capital, Kiev, this city here, could be ‘sacked.’ That’s the word he [Biden] apparently used, according to this Ukrainian official. [It could be] sacked by Russian forces,” Chance told Tapper.

Chance went on to quote what he called a “quite impactful line” from the Biden-Zelensky call as narrated to him by the anonymous Ukrainian official. “President Biden [was] telling his Ukrainian counterpart that Ukraine should prepare for impact. Quite a stark warning there from the US leader.”

The segment, however, was subsequently removed from The Lead’s Twitter account.

The quote was quickly picked up by other outlets, such as The Independent, The Express, and the Daily Mail. Meanwhile, CNN anchor Jim Sciutto quoted Horne as saying that “anonymous sources are ‘leaking’ falsehoods” about the call.

Zelensky’s spokesman, Sergey Nykyforov, likewise dismissed reports citing the alleged “senior Ukrainian official” as “completely false.”

“Correct information can only be found in official releases from the Ukrainian and American sides,” he stated.

Officially, the Biden-Zelensky call on Thursday afternoon went well, with the two presidents discussing the ongoing US military and financial aid to Ukraine. Biden reiterated US support for Ukraine and told Zelensky the US and its allies were ready to “respond decisively if Russia further invades Ukraine,” according to the official White House readout.

Biden also told his Ukrainian colleague that the US embassy in Kiev “remains open and fully operational” even though some family members of diplomats and staff were evacuated this week.

The two presidents noted the success of Wednesday’s talks in Paris, where Russia and Ukraine agreed on the matter of maintaining the ceasefire in the disputed region of Donbass and scheduled another meeting in Berlin in two weeks.

Fear sells in 21st century news; hysteria sells even better. There's no room for truth in hysteria.
