After the collapse of the Soviet Union, NATO needed a new raison d'être. The reason for their existence was no longer to protect Europe and America from Russia. Russia was no longer a threat, hadn't been for years, and still is not. NATO's raison d'être, somewhere along the line, switched to being a storefront for the international (though mostly American) weapons and other military merchandise industry. But that cannot be the obvious reason for their existence; they need something more palatable to gullible members.
Consequently, they entered the Balkan war as if it had something to do with the security of America and Europe. Most NATO member countries have long forgotten the 7 week bombing campaign against Yugoslavia that killed 2,500 men, women and children. 7 weeks of bombing moves a whole lot of inventory.
The proxy war between NATO and Russia in Ukraine is another attempt to camoflage NATO's raison d'être. Europe is buying it hook, line, and sinker, possibly with large envelopes of money being passed around under tables in Europe's capitol cities. But this war will only increase the danger to Europe rather than making it safer. Foolish governments either cannot see that or choose not to.
25 years ago today, the US under Bill Clinton started the next phase of subjugating the remainder of Europe. The occupation of and dominance over Europe had started in 1945. The process is still ongoing, with the war In Ukraine - started by another Democrat president, Barry Obama - as the latest clear evidence of Yankee intent. Sadly, the European political establishment is now fully beholden to the occupier. Only three European nations try to preserve their sovereignty, Serbia, Russia and Belarus. A shameful state of affair.
BELGRADE, March 24 – RIA Novosti. On Sunday, the 25th anniversary of the NATO bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia began with the laying of flowers at the monument to the deceased three-year-old Milica Rakic in the center of Belgrade with the participation of the head of Rossotrudnichestvo Evgeny Primakov and the Russian Ambassador Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, RIA Novosti correspondent reports.
The monument with the figure of a girl and a black butterfly in Tašmajdan Park is considered a monument to all young Serbs who died during the alliance operation. “We were only children” reads the inscription on the stone wings of a butterfly.
The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by the Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Veterans Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selakovic , representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, the head of Rossotrudnichestvo Evgeny Primakov, Russian Ambassador Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, member of the Russian Federation Council Vladimir Chizhov , representatives of veterans and public organizations.
A guard of honor was lined up in front of the monument, and the ceremony took place in the rain in silence.
In 1999, an armed confrontation between Albanian separatists from the Kosovo Liberation Army and Serbian security forces led to the bombing of the FRY (at that time consisting of Serbia and Montenegro ) by NATO forces . The military operation was undertaken without the approval of the UN Security Council based on the assertion of Western countries that the authorities of the FRY allegedly carried out ethnic cleansing in the Kosovo autonomy and provoked a humanitarian catastrophe there. NATO airstrikes continued from March 24 to June 10, 1999.
NATO bombing led to the death of over 2.5 thousand people, including 87 children, and damage of 100 billion dollars; doctors are recording the consequences of the use of depleted uranium, leading to an increase in cancer.
