Corruption is Everywhere > Bolsonero accused of embezzlement; Marine Le Pen investigated for fraud and forgery again

Corruption goes hand-in-hand with politics. Using one's powers to enrich oneself is extremely tempting and, unfortunately, few can resist. While it is likely that almost anyone in political power can be found to have benefitted financially from gifts given them, it seems mostly right-wing politicians are investigated relentlessly. Benjamin Netanyahu has been harassed as such for very minor amounts in question. Marine Le Pen has been accused of corruption several times, almost always just before an election, and now Bolsonero. Argentina's Milei should be extremely careful, deep state will be coming after him.

Bolsonaro embezzled $1.2 million worth of undeclared jewelry, Brazil's police say

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has been accused of embezzling roughly $1.2 million worth of jewelry during his time in office, including a diamond-encrusted Rolex and Patek Phillipe watches.

Brazil’s Federal Police allege former President Jair Bolsonaro embezzled jewelry worth 6.8 million Brazilian reals (about $1.2 million) during his time in office, according to the investigative report unsealed Monday by the Supreme Court.

Bolsonaro was indicted last week charging embezzlement, asset laundering and criminal association in connection with the luxury jewelry from Saudi Arabia. The investigation adds pressure on the far-right leader who governed in 2019-2022 before losing his reelection bid to Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva. He has already lost his political rights until 2030.

Bolsonaro hasn't commented on the indictment, but has previously denied any wrongdoing involving the jewelry.

The police report alleges there was “a criminal association for the embezzlement of high-value gifts that were received due to the position of former President Jair Bolsonaro.” The jewelry included diamond-encrusted Rolex and Patek Phillipe watches, a necklace, rings and cufflinks, among other items. The report says some of the presents were given to government staffers acting on Bolsonaro’s behalf during international trips.

The Associated Press reported Bolsonaro’s indictment Thursday based on information given by two sources with knowledge of the investigation, but the unsealing of the report by Brazil's Supreme Court provided a complete view of the allegations.

Brazil’s prosecutor-general, Paulo Gonet, will analyze the police report and decide whether to file charges and force the far-right leader to stand trial.

The jewelry would have been tax exempt had it been a gift from Saudi Arabia to the nation of Brazil, but not Bolsonaro’s to keep for himself. Rather, it would have been incorporated into the presidential collection.

The police report said Bolsonaro's family received “revenue obtained through the illegal sale” of the jewelry. The investigation found the funds were incorporated by the former president without the use of Brazil's banking system as a way to hide the origin, the report said.

During his first public speech after the accusations came to light, at a conservative conference in southern Brazil on Saturday, the 69-year-old former army captain did not address the issue. But he and his lawyers have previously denied any wrongdoing in the case as well as in other of his actions that are under investigation.

Argentine President Javier Milei, one of Bolsonaro's allies, accused Brazil of promoting a legal witch hunt against the former president.

Bolsonaro’s indictment in the jewelry case followed another formal accusation in March accusing the former leader of falsifying his COVID-19 vaccination certificate. He is also the target of an investigation into possible involvement in inciting a January 2023 uprising in the capital of Brasilia that sought to oust his successor.

'Target' seems to be an appropriate word here.

The police report unsealed Monday indicts 10 others, including two of Bolsonaro’s lawyers, a retired army general and a former energy minister of his administration.

The document recounts one exchange between Bolsonaro and a former top aide to suggest the Brazilian leader was aware that some of the jewelry in question was about to be auctioned in the U.S. Federal Police said Bolsonaro’s phone included other references to Fortuna Auction, the auctioning company.

Police said a second package of luxury jewelry seized in customs was also addressed to Bolsonaro, whose administration made repeated efforts to secure their release. The then president received the package on Nov. 29, 2022, the report said.

France’s Marine Le Pen faces probe for fraud, forgery in 2022 presidential vote

The Paris prosecutor’s office said Tuesday it opened a preliminary investigation last week into suspicions of illicit financing of far-right French leader Marine Le Pen’s campaign during the 2022 presidential election.

The office told The Associated Press that the judicial probe opened July 2 into allegations of accepting a financial loan, misappropriation of property, fraud and forgery. It did not give details.

This was, of course, 5 days before the 2nd phase of the elections. This is normal procedure in France where Le Pen is investigated for something just days before an election. You would think the French would catch on after several such elections. Is it time for a lawsuit against the Paris Prosecutor's office?

Le Pen hasn’t commented.

France election 2024: Can opposition parties stop far-right National Rally from forming government?

The preliminary investigation was opened after a report from the National Commission for Campaign Accounts and Political Financing dating from 2023. The body is responsible for monitoring candidates’ expenses. In French elections, candidates are barred from exceeding a certain spending limit.

French media reports said Le Pen is not the only candidate in the 2022 presidential election being investigated.

Her far-right National Rally party previously was singled out for exaggerating expenses on campaign items used by candidates in the 2012 legislative elections. The Court of Cassation rejected the party’s appeal, and it was fined.

George Soros America > 80-100 looters trash Oakland convenience store, police no help; Oakland Prosecutor facing recall election

Mob of nearly 100 looters ransack Oakland

gas station as store owner says police took

9 hours to respond: ‘Back to square one’

A mob of looters ransacked an Oakland gas station convenience store and caused thousands of dollars in damage as the frustrated store manager claimed police took nine hours to respond to his plea for help.

The horde, who had just attended a nearby car sideshow, broke into the 76 Station near the San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport around 4:30 a.m. on Friday, according to ABC 7 News Bay Area.

Owner Sam Mardaie estimated approximately 80 to 100 people broke through his store’s front door and grabbed everything they could get their hands on.

“Shelves were ripped apart, all the grocery items were torn or stepped on or vandalized,” Mardaie told the outlet.

Video surveillance obtained by the outlet showed the looters snatching drinks from the fridges, food items off the shelves, boxes and baskets belonging to the store and a television.

Some climbed over the register and looted items from underneath the counter.

The mob was reportedly upset they weren’t allowed inside the store as the business was only offering window service, a normal occurrence for the 24/7 shop during the overnight hours.

Approximately $25,000 in cash was taken from the store’s register and ATM, but the looters couldn’t grab the safe.

Two employees inside the store were threatened during the mass pillaging, which lasted around 40 minutes, Mardaie told KTVU.

“This is the hardest thing you could ever go through…especially if you’ve been put in sweat and tears day in and day out,” the frustrated owner told the outlet.

Maradie says he and his family took over the business in August 2023.

“Building yourself for the last ten months and then you’re back to square one,” he added.

A call was placed to Oakland police but the dispatcher informed the caller the crime was listed as a Priority 2, as no suspects were on scene, adding it could be reported online.

It was only after a video of the mass looting was shared with the department that it was raised to a Priority 1 and an officer was sent to the store nine hours after the robbery began, according to KTVU.

The 76 station is located in the same area where In-N-Out closed its only location in Oakland in March because of the out-of-control crime and for the safety of their customers.

Police explained to the outlet that officers had been responding to a sideshow near the airport that had over 100 cars and later responded to a burglary 90 minutes later.

The store’s customers shared their fears of the ongoing crime in the area.

“It’s very disheartening, I’m scared to go out after dark and I don’t know it’s just alarming,” customer Ebony Bolton told KTVU.

Oakland’s recent spike in crime forced several restaurant chains to close their stores in the area and caused one family to pull their son out of a local college.

The horde of looters entered the store through the broken glass of the front door.

In February, a Texas attorney offered a $10,000 reward after her son, who had been refueling his rental car, was robbed at gunpoint at the same gas station, according to CBS News.

“It’s crazy. I mean it’s a daily thing. It hasn’t been a day since we opened in August that we don’t have an incident,” Mardaie told the outlet at the time.

“I come from Yemen, a third world country, and we don’t have those incidents in a third world country where there’s no law and order.”

Another politically progressive prosecutor in the

San Francisco Bay Area faces recall election

Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price faces a recall just two years after she was elected in November 2022, several months after San Francisco voters ousted Chesa Boudin from the top prosecutor’s job.

Like Price, Boudin was also a political newcomer in his first term as district attorney whose critics collected enough signatures to put the issue to voters.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday set the recall election for Nov. 5, to coincide with the general election.

Prior to taking office, Price was a civil rights attorney who championed women, victims of domestic violence and youth caught up in the criminal justice system.

Her opponents say she has emboldened criminals at a time when Oakland, the county’s most populous city, reported a rise in crime, prompting Gov. Gavin Newsom to send in highway patrol officers and state prosecutors to help.

Her supporters say Price has been targeted by wealthy conservatives who do not want to reform a flawed and racist criminal justice system. They say she should have more time to make good on her campaign promises.

Was there George Soros' money behind Price? Soros has sponsored dozens of prosecutors around America in an effort to make the criminal justice system more criminal friendly. It seems the criminals are very appreciative of him, but several of his prosecutors have already been recalled by voters because of a huge spike in crimes.

Soros and his son need to be removed from American and European society.

Chief Investigator Names Police and Municipal Clerks as Most ‘Corruption Prone’ Professions in Russia

But also investigated anti-corruption officials for corruption

Corruption is Everywhere - Certainly in Russia

© Global Look Press

The head of the Russian Investigative Committee has revealed the latest statistics on corruption crime, which show that most cases involve law-enforcement agents, military servicemen, municipal clerks, teachers and doctors.

“Representatives of law-enforcement agencies, officials from municipal bodies and enterprises, people working in the spheres of education and healthcare, and also the military,” said Aleksandr Bastrykin, listing the professions most often involved in cases of corruption.

In an interview with Rossiiskaya Gazeta, the chairman of Russian federal agency that deals with high-profile crimes said that there were currently more than 7,000 people facing corruption charges. Of these, 845 worked for the Interior Ministry, 571 occupied posts in state and municipal bodies, 490 were military servicemen, 227 worked in science and education, and 221 worked in healthcare.

“Another 400 suspects are people to whom we had to apply a special mode of criminal trial. These used to work as prosecutors, judges, investigators, legal attorneys and the like. Some of them are quite senior officials, I don’t think that it makes sense to name them all, as we know their names from mass media,” Bastrykin added.

Corrupt anti-corruption officials

Russia was hit by several major corruption scandals in 2016. Among them was the arrest of Economy Minister Aleksey Ulyukayev on suspicion of taking a $2-million bribe from the CEO of the state-owned oil giant Rosneft. Also in 2016, investigators detained several top officials from the anti-corruption directorate of the Interior Ministry, following an incident in which they found over $122 million in cash in an apartment linked to one of the officials.

No reference here to the systemic doping scandal that got Russia kicked out of the next Olympic Games. It is both hopeful and alarming that 7,000 people have been charged and that some are even senior officials. But the corruption at the highest levels of Russian society and government is not likely to be cleaned up in my lifetime.

Is this a consequence of 70 years of godless communism, or was there this much corruption before the revolution?
