Middle East Madness > Volker Türk finally gets to Syria and is horrified; "Oct 7th will happen every year," Palestinian mom; 2 Supreme Court justices killed in Iran

U.N. rights chief: Atrocities committed

in Syria beyond belief

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said Wednesday that the extent of atrocities committed in Syria is hard to believe and emphasized that transitional justice is "crucial" after the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Türk, who described his visit to Damascus as "a historical first" after officials from the U.N. body and many other human rights groups had been denied access to the country under the Assad rule, said it was critical to address "the past wrongs" that have been committed by in Syria over the past five decades.

"The extent of the atrocity crimes truly beggars belief," he said during a press conference in Damascus. "Those responsible for serious human rights violations and crimes must be held to account."

He said "war crimes and even crimes against humanity" have been documented over the years of the Syrian conflict, stressing that "atrocity crimes," which include enforced disappearances, torture and the use of chemical weapons, must be fully investigated.

No doubt he is not exaggerating in the least the horrors that Assad committed. But there were many false flag operations that occurred involving chemical weapons, particularly just after the Arab Spring operation which failed completely in Syria. It would be nice if they were investigated too. Search this blog for 'false flag' for stories on this.

"Justice must be served, fairly and impartially. ... Revenge and vengeance are never the answer," Türk said.

He said that as the country moves forward, "transitional justice is crucial" to promote the rule of law and reinforce respect for human rights in post-Assad Syria.

Türk noted that he met Syria's new leader Ahmad Sharaa, who assured him of "the importance of respect for human rights for all Syrians and all different components of Syrian society."

Since his Islamist rebels took control of most of the country and deposed Assad on Dec. 8, Sharaa has been seeking to reassure the various sects and minorities of their safety, rights and participation in rebuilding the war-ravaged country.

While the challenges facing Syria are "immense," the U.N. official said the first task must be "saving lives," with 90% of the population living in poverty and millions still displaced inside and outside the country.

He then called on the international community to urgently reconsider the lifting of the "sectoral sanctions" imposed on the country.

Assad's fall revealed a shocking reality about tens of thousands of detainees when rebel forces stormed his regime-run jails in Damascus and other Syrian regions and freed them. However, a great number of them remain unaccounted for.

Türk, who visited the notorious Sednaya prison, where the U.N. body has been documenting violations for years, said one former soldier jailed on suspicion of being a defector told him of the "cruel treatment" he endured.

"I cannot even bear to share his stories of beatings and torture," he said.

The U.N. top official also visited the residential neighborhood of Jobar, in Damascus, which he described as "an apocalyptic wasteland" in which no building was spared of bombardment.

"It is inconceivable that such mass killings and destruction took place. Equally, that banned chemical weapons were used against civilians elsewhere in the country, and not just once, says a lot about the extreme brutality of the tactics used by the former regime," he said.

"Such acts constitute some of the most serious crimes under international humanitarian law."

Türk warned that "still very real threats" exist because of the ongoing conflicts and hostilities that "must end."

Two Supreme Court justices assassinated in Iran

The unidentified assailant subsequently killed himself outside a courthouse in Tehran
Two Supreme Court justices assassinated in Iran

Two Iranian Supreme Court justices have been killed by an unknown assassin in Tehran, IRNA News reported on Saturday, citing the media center of the judiciary. The perpetrator reportedly committed suicide on the spot after an attempt was made to arrest him.

The two victims were identified as Hojjat al-Islam Razini and Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Moqisseh, who each presided over a different branch of the court. The two judges were heavily involved in combatting crimes against national security, the statement by the judiciary read, describing them as “brave and experienced.”

The judiciary’s media center said that the attack was a “planned act,” adding that initial indications are that the assassin “did not have a case in the Supreme Court nor was he a client of the court’s branches.” “Immediately after the terrorist act, an attempt was made to arrest the gunman, who quickly committed suicide,” officials said, noting that an investigation is underway.

While Iranian officials stopped short of assigning the blame to any actor, they pointed out that “over the past year, extensive measures have been taken by the judiciary to identify, arrest, and prosecute agents and elements affiliated with the infamous Zionist regime and the US agents, spies, and terrorist groups.”

Razini was the target of an assassination attempt in 1998, when assailants on motorcycles attached a magnetic bomb to his vehicle, injuring the judge. Razini was presiding over the Tehran judiciary at the time.

The two judges were reportedly involved in an alleged purge of dissidents in 1988 at the end of the protracted Iran-Iraq war. At the time, the main target of the Iranian authorities was the so-called People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK), which invaded the country with a 7,000-strong force backed by Iraq.

MEK, which espouses an ideological mix of Islamic principles and revolutionary Marxism, has been based in Albania for decades. Iranian officials claim the group’s fighters have killed more than 12,000 civilians since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

They'll be so horribly disappointed if they can't link this guy to

European Politics > Romanian court decision a "coup d'état in full swing"

Romanian court annuls presidential election

citing Russian 'aggressive hybrid action'

Romania's Constitutional Court Friday canceled the presidential run-off election between far-right candidate Calin Georgescu and centrist Elena Lasconi. Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Romania's Constitutional Court Friday canceled the presidential run-off election between far-right candidate Calin Georgescu and centrist Elena Lasconi. The court cited a Russian propaganda campaign as the reason.

As though there was no propaganda campaign from NATO countries or from George Soros.

The court said in a statement that its decision two days before the run-off was to occur "annuls the entire electoral process regarding the election of the president of Romania."

Declassified Romanian intelligence documents contained a security services warning that Russia had attacked the election system with an "aggressive hybrid action" to elevate a far-right previously politically unknown candidate.

The declassified intelligence documents said Georgescu's victory was "not a natural outcome" and a "state actor" elevated him with an artificial coordinated social media campaign.

That would be like Kamala Harris being elevated from nowhere nearly to President.

The documents said Georgescu benefitted from a propaganda campaign by 25,000 accounts on TikTok that were activated just two weeks before the first-round vote.

Remember when George Soros bought hundreds of radio stations just a couple weeks before the US elections. Same thing!

The intelligence reports also uncovered several alleged illegalities in Georgescu's campaign financing.

I'm sure there isn't an election campaign in the world that you couldn't find financing irregularities in if you looked.

"The electoral process for the election of the President of Romania will be resumed in its entirety, with the Government required to set a new date for the election of the President of Romania as well as a new calendar program for carrying out the necessary actions," The Constitutional Court said in a statement.

Lasconi opposed the court's action.

"Today is the moment when the Romanian

state trampled over democracy,"

Lasconi said. "God, the Romanian people, the truth and the law will prevail and will punish those who are guilty of destroying our democracy."

The startling and unprecedented controversial move by the Constitutional Court plunged Romania into uncharted political waters, with a possible brand new election in spring 2025.

Incumbent Prime Minister and current Social Democratic Party candidate Marcel Ciolacu said the court did the right thing.

Sure he did, he gets to keep his job for a few more months.

"The CCR's decision to cancel the presidential elections is the only correct solution after the declassification of documents from the CSAT meeting, which show that the result of the Romanian vote was flagrantly distorted following Russian intervention," Ciolacu said.

In the first round of the election the far-right Georgescu got 23% of the vote and Lasconi got 19%. Ciolacu was third.

The far-right nationalist AUR party leader George Simion called the court decision a "coup d'état in full swing."

Romania is strategically important to NATO

and the EU's support for Ukraine.

The far-right candidate has vowed to end aid to Ukraine while attacking the actions of NATO and the EU.

There is the reason for the coup!

Brazil's Lula's Not So Excellent Adventure > Throws a big parade and no-one shows up except him

Lula's lonely parade

A million people showed up last week to protest the lack of freedom of speech in Brail after a Supreme Court judge declared war on Elon Musk and X.

Nobody turned out for President Lula's grand parade this past weekend. He looks pretty silly with no-one to wave to.

One would think this might inspire him to get his rogue judiciary under control.

Islam in Pakistan > In Pakistan, Sharia is more powerful than federal laws; Pakistan arrests man for disinformation on Southport murders

Pakistan: Muslim mobs demand Chief Justice’s resignation

for saying Ahmadiyya man has ‘right to religion’

How can Mubarak Sani have a “right to religion” when the Qur’an directs Muslims to “fight them until persecution is no more and religion is all for Allah” (8:39)?

Pakistan: Islamist mobs descend into Supreme Court premises, demand Chief Justice’s resignation for saying Ahmadiyya man booked for blasphemy has ‘right to religion’

OpIndia, August 20, 2024:

The “Sar tan se juda” mob comprising thousands is protesting in Pakistan against Supreme Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. Isa, who was appointed the Chief Justice of Pakistan in November last year has been facing death threats and protests since February this year after he ordered the release of a Ahmadiyya man Mubarak Sani. On the 29th of May, a three-judge bench including Chief Justice Isa, Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan reserved its decision.

The fresh protests erupted after the court on 24th July accepted the Punjab government’s plea alongside those of several Islamist organisations seeking a review of its February ruling and said that the right to profess religion and religious freedom, as ensured by the Constitution, is subject to law, morality and public order. A hearing on these pleas will be held on 22nd August.

The protesting Islamists are demanding CJP Faez Isa’s resignation. On 19th August, a large number of protesters from various Islamist groups breached Islamabad’s highly secured, Red Zone storming the Supreme Court entrance gates to protest the Pakistan apex court verdict in the Mubarak Sani case.

In the February ruling, Justice Isa granted bail to Ahmadiyya man Mubarak Ahmad Sani who was accused of blasphemy in 2019 over distributing pamphlets promoting his religious beliefs. Sani was convicted under the Punjab Holy Quran (Printing and Recording) (Amendment) Act, 2021, however, the 3-judge bench led by Justice Isa noted that Sani was charged for an offence not criminalised until 2021. Consequently, the top court granted bail to Sani and ordered his immediate release. Soon after, the TLP and other Islamists launched a hate campaign against Qazi Faez Isa. In Peshawar, around 3000 people blocked the roads in February and raised slogans like “Death to Qadianis” etc. The agitation of Islamists compelled the Supreme Court to issue a statement ‘defending’ its decision in the Mubarak Sani case.

Notably, the Islamist outfit Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) has even placed a bounty of 1 crore Pakistani rupees on Judge Isa’s head. Pir Zaheerul Hasan Shah, the second top leader of TLP, placed this bounty.

“TLP aside, as a momin [faithful Muslim] and a slave of Prophet Muhammad, I announce in my capacity to give one crore [ten million] rupees to any person who beheads Faiz Isa who desecrated the law of the country, kicked the blood of 10,000 martyrs and permitted Marzai [Ahmadis] and hurt the feelings of Muslims,” Shah said in a rally….

Aug. 21 (UPI) -- A man was arrested in Pakistan for spreading disinformation that helped spark anti-immigrant unrest in Britain after the Southport stabbing, authorities said.

Pakistani law enforcement told the BBC that the man, Farhan Asif, was arrested on suspicion of cyber terrorism, as they connected him to a website that posted false information about the alleged attacker in the stabbing on July 29 that left three girls dead and 10 others injured.

The website, called Channel3Now, posted in the hours after the attack a fictitious name for the suspect. More information on the website suggested that the suspect was an asylum seeker who reached Britain on a small boat, a stereotype used to describe poor immigrants arriving from other countries.

The false information went viral on social media as violent far-right unrest in England and Northern Ireland erupted after the stabbing.

Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency interviewed Asif in DIG Kamran, where he allegedly runs his news platform alone. The FIA said that Asif admitted to posting the information after supposedly gathering it from social media.

The ritos have led to a wave of arrests as Kieran Usher became the first adult to face rioting charges in connection with the far-right unrest in Britain last Friday. He did not enter a plea in South Tyneside Magistrates' Court and is expected to return to court on Friday in Newcastle Crown Court.

Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9, died during the stabbing at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport on July 29.

Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, 18, of Lancashire, was charged with three counts of murder and 10 charges of attempted murder.
