Bits and Bites from Around the World > Wild boar attacks in the Netherlands

Woman left bloody after wild boar attack in Meerssen days after similar attack in Veluwe

A person has been attacked by a wild boar in the municipality of Meerssen, De Telegraaf reported. A woman was left bloody after she was attacked in Geulle on Sunday. This came days after it was reported that a father and son were attacked in the Veluwe.

The woman was jogging in the area as she had done plenty in the past when she was attacked from behind by the boar. The woman then went to a nearby home for help while covered in blood. The victim was bit in three places in her leg. She was treated in the hospital and was able to go home the same day. She admitted to the local mayor, Mirjam Clermonts, that she was aware that there were wild boars in the area.

“I can only give behavioral indications,” said Clermonts. “Pay attention, stay away from nature reserves, especially after dark, stay on the paths, and keep dogs on a leash. Closing off this area, as we were able to do in Bunde last year, is difficult. There are too many entrances and exits.”

Wild boar attacks had been an issue in Meerssen for years. Several incidents of bloody confrontations were reported in 2023 and the early months of 2024. “We thought it was safe again,” said Ray Koumans, who lives a little further on from the location of the attack. “We went for a walk in the forest with the children last summer. We will not be doing that anymore for the time being.”

Math Roumans of the Wild Beheer Eenheid De Maasvallei has said that his organization has shot 54 wild boars in the area in the last year. “We are here almost every night.”

The hunters are volunteers who are often out until the late evening hours. They need to dispose of the carcass after shooting a boar. “Many people think we should shoot as many as possible, but others think we are animal abusers for this,” Roumans added.

There are certain rules when it comes to shooting the boars. The hunters are not allowed to shoot a sow with babies. Even though these are usually the animals that are more likely to panic and then attack somebody in defense of their young. Shooting near homes is also not permitted.

This incident came days after it was reported that a wild boar had attacked a father and son in the Veluwe. A 71-year-old man was left injured as a result of the attack.

Bits and Bites from around the World > Mom saves 5 y/o from Raccoon attack; A mini Loch ness Monster?

‘Mom of the year’ heroically saves daughter from

‘rabid’ raccoon in wild video

A courageous Connecticut woman is being hailed as “mom of the year” online after heroically rescuing her daughter from a vicious raccoon that latched onto her leg. A video of her deed has amassed 16.6 million views on Twitter as users laud her bravery in the face of a ferocious beast.

“I heard her screaming and ran to see what was going on. I thought maybe she slammed her hand in the door, I was not expecting to see a raccoon attacking her,” Logan Kelsey MacNamara told Storyful while recounting the “unprovoked” attack, which occurred last week in the family’s hometown of Ashford. “If I didn’t have the video I wouldn’t be able to tell you exactly what happened, it all happened so fast.”

She posted the video to Facebook per her daughter’s request.

The nail-biting clip, captured via surveillance camera, starts off with MacNamara’s 5-year-old daughter Rylee standing on her front porch as she prepares to walk to the school bus. All of a sudden, a huge raccoon comes out of nowhere and starts attacking one of her legs, causing her to scream in terror.

“I was going out to get on the bus and a raccoon was there and tried to attack me,” said little Rylee recalling the frightening scene to local outlet WFSB. “It didn’t want to go off of my leg.”

In the clip, the shrieking girl tries to kick the vicious varmint away to no avail as it clings doggedly to her pants.

Upon her daughter’s cries, MacNamara rushes out of the house and rips the beserk trash panda off her child’s leg.

“Go inside, get in the house,” the mom urges while holding her daughter in one hand and Ranger Rick with the other, dangling it by the scruff of its neck.

Rylee heeds her mom’s command, whereupon the snarling animal whips around and starts mauling MacNamara’s arm.

At that point, the courageous gal warns onlookers to stay away because she believes that the raccoon is “rabid.”

After a short scuffle, the impromptu raccoon wrestler manages to hurl Rocky into her backyard like a furry discus, whereupon the dazed critter flees the scene.

MacNamara said that Rylee sustained a few puncture wounds and, while both have scratches, they are overall faring OK following the attack. She attributes the lack of injuries to the fact that her daughter wore jeans and not leggings like she usually does, Storyful reported.

Meanwhile, animal control services combed the woods Friday in search of the culprit, but it was nowhere to be found.

As such, it’s yet unclear if the raccoon suffered from hydrophobia, however, the pair went to the hospital and received several rabies shots as a precaution. They will need to return every couple of days for the next two weeks for follow-up jabs.

“I was going out to get on the bus and a raccoon was there and tried to attack me,” said little Rylee recalling the frightening scene. “It didn’t want to go off of my leg.”

Needless to say, social media admirers were quick to praise MacNamara for her courageous act with one Twitter viewer dubbing her the “mom of the year.”

“That mom is amazing,” fawned one admirer, while another wrote, “That protective mother strength ain’t no joke.”

One fan posted a close-up of MacNamara clutching the raccoon by the scruff of its neck with the caption, “The look on the racoon’s face when it realized it was about to find out.”

Even wildlife experts commended MacNamara’s actions. Geoff Krukar, a wildlife biologist for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, told FOX 61 that the raccoon definitely appeared to be sick and the mother did the right thing to protect her family.

“The mother behaved in a way that was very heroic,” he said. “I think she did everything, everything correctly. By avoiding getting bit, warning the neighbor to stay back and getting the child to safety.”

Despite the tidal wave of praise, MacNamara claimed that she was “more scared than anything.” In the future, she says she won’t let her kids outside without an adult present.

This isn’t the first time a woman has saved the day from a rampaging varmint. In June, a steel-nerved Alaskan woman came to the rescue of New York revelers after heroically “bouncing” an interloping opossum from a Brooklyn bar.

I was shocked by a creature on the beach — people say it’s a

‘baby Loch Ness monster’

There are no indications of the size of this creature in this article, but the paw prints in the photo above appear to be those of a large dog.

A baffled British beachcomber experienced vex on the beach after sharing pics of a bizarre beast they found washed ashore — with many viewers comparing it to the legendary Loch Ness monster. The perplexing jetsam was reportedly discovered in November but only recently surfaced on Reddit, where it’s currently making waves as users try to make heads or tails of it.

“It looked like a sea monster,” Lindsay Freeman told Pen News of the freaky flotsam, which she found while “walking on the beach” in Poole, Dorset.

“It caught my eye because it was so unusual-looking and large,” Freeman described the beast. “I couldn’t think of an animal that had a tail like a shark, but also legs like a turtle. It also looked like it had little arms and a very strange head.”

Accompanying photos show the spotted creature, which seems to have four flippers, a long neck and a tail like a plesiosaur — the extinct dinosaur that prompted the infamous Loch Ness monster myth.

Flummoxed by the flotsam, she sent her family a photo of the mystery critter with the hope that they could provide an “explanation.”

Unfortunately, no one in her immediate circle could identify the critter, but Reddit’s ever-helpful commentariat was quick to take the Loch Ness premise and run with it.

“Bro it’s clearly a baby Loch Ness monster,” one armchair cryptozoologist joked.

“Baby Loch Ness monster for sure,” declared another, while one social media jokester added, “Baby plesiosaurus! Your discovery will be famous!”

Some Redditors even claimed it was a “liopleurodon,” a now-extinct marine predator that roamed the seas during the Jurassic period hundreds of millions of years ago.

Realists were quick to throw cold water on that theory, though, with many claiming that the creature was actually the mutilated remains of a UK-dwelling stingray called a marine thornback.

“It’s a winged thornback ray,” theorized one Redditor. “Doesn’t look like it’s been winged correctly, you’re supposed to cut around their snout so the two wings stay connected. We called the filleted wings handbags.”

Another wrote: “It looks like the ray has been predated upon. The fins have been eaten.”

“Line caught, wings removed, carcass left,” lamented one backseat biologist. “Hopefully, fishermen killed before butchering.”

This isn’t the first time a discovery has sparked rumors of the Loch Ness monster resurfacing.

In September, an Irish man who monitors newly installed, high-resolution webcams around Loch Ness in Scotland claimed he’d captured the “giant eel-like shapes” that make up Nessie.

Bits and Bites from around the World > Reckless driver a dog; Chris Christie's Niece goes wild - bites cop - Shocking Update

..

In a sane world, you might easily see a dog bite a man and a woman in a car accident. Today, we have a reversal of roles where the dog drives a car into an accident, and a woman bites a man.

Doggonit!

Texas police said Thursday they apprehended a “reckless driver” who rammed a truck into two cars in a Walmart parking lot, but they were surprised to learn the identity of the culprit.

A dog had somehow set his owner’s vehicle in motion while left to wait in the car, the Kilgore Police Department said.

While his owners were out shopping, the pup became “antsy” and “bounced around the cab, setting this truck in motion,” according to investigators.

One of the victims witnessed the crash and was “shocked” to see a dog behind the wheel, police said. He attempted to get out of the way as the truck barreled toward him but was unable to avoid an accident. This good boy apparently hadn’t been trained to use the brakes.

His paws hadn't learned how to pause!

Police said the vehicle’s steering column had some prior damage and theorized the dog must have put the vehicle in drive. The woofer was wearing a leash, and investigators believe it got caught on the emergency brake and released it.

No one was injured in the accident.

“It doesn’t sound feasible, but an eyewitness saw the pooch behind the wheel just before the crash,” Kilgore Police said. “He certainly has a guilty look on his face.”

I hope he has a license!

Chris Christie’s niece accused of biting, injuring cops

during violent plane meltdown (Updated)

Caution: disgusting, vulgar language below. Another case of madness almost certainly attributable to drugs.

At one point she “broke free” as officers tried to handcuff her, forcing cops to block her path. She “was belligerent and displayed unusual strength” during the struggle, according to the report.

The niece of the ex-gov and failed 2016 presidential candidate “slurred her words” and “had white foam coming from the sides of her mouth.

“Epstein punched me, kicked me, spit in my face, and twisted as she attempted to free herself from my grip,” the officer writing the report said.

Epstein was allegedly “foaming at the mouth” during the rampage. That’s when she again brought up her famous uncle, but claimed she was his daughter — and also said she knew former President Trump.

Epstein continued her screed against the police: “By this time tomorrow you will both be in jail. What the f— did I do? I’m a lesbian. Is that it? Do you want put your dick in me? That’s it, isn’t it. That’s what this is all about? You want to put your dick in my mouth, don’t you? You’re so f—ed, you asshole.”

Epstein continued to be violent after going on the drunken tirade, cops said, which forced them to tackle her to the floor. She then bit an officer’s left bicep and “tore the skin away.” She also scratched the officer’s left leg as she attempted to kick him in the groin, police said.

Officers were eventually able to handcuff her, but she continued to “struggle against handcuff, kick, spit on deputies, and attempt to break free,” according to the report. When asked if she was aware what was happening, she responded: “I’m very aware.”

“Do you guys think I have cocaine in my p—y?” she asked, then screamed for several minutes, according to the report.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’ niece was kicked off a Spirit Airlines flight and arrested after she accused a Latino family of “smuggling cocaine” — and allegedly injured six sheriff’s deputies, one of whom was bitten.

Shannon Epstein, 25, allegedly caused the ruckus on a 6 a.m. flight from New Orleans, Louisiana to New Jersey on Thanksgiving Day. She asked a Latino family sitting nearby if they were “smuggling cocaine,” Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jason Rivarde told NOLA.com.

Epstein, the niece of the failed 2016 Republican presidential contender, grew angry and was being disruptive on the flight, the local outlet reported Saturday.

Airline workers decided to remove her from the plane, which had already left the gate.

But Epstein allegedly refused to leave after the plane returned from the tarmac — and she became “extremely combative” when approached by deputies, the report said.

She injured six deputies while resisting arrest, Rivarde told NOLA.com, including biting one on the arm and breaking skin. She kicked another officer in the groin, he added.

Epstein also threatened the officers, saying her uncle is friends with former President Donald Trump and that she knows powerful people, Rivarde said.

She ultimately had to be handcuffed to wheelchair, according to the report.

The brash-talking Garden State pol’s niece was charged with six counts of battery on a police officer, three counts of disturbing the peace, one of resisting arrest by force and one of remaining after forbidden, the outlet reported.

She was released from Jefferson Parish Correction Center on Thanksgiving Day after putting up $10,750 in bail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 23, the site reported.

Epstein, Christie and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office could not be reached for comment by The Post Sunday.
