Hero American tourist and model reveals extent of facial injuries suffered while defending two women in Germany: ‘Wear my scar with pride’
The American tourist stabbed defending two women from vicious thugs on a tram in Germany revealed he was nearly blinded from the attack – but declared he’ll wear his scars with “pride” in his first interview since the frightening ordeal.
“The injury to the face, the cut to the nose. It severed my nose in two and part of my lip here,” 21-year-old John Rudat told journalist Julian Reichelt. “It just nicked the eyelid. Just a centimeter off and I would have lost my eye for sure.
“Certainly I’ll have a scar. But you know, it was worth it. And I’ll wear it with pride,” Rudat said.
Rudat, a model from upstate New York, remains hospitalized after the Sunday attack in Dresden, where he intervened as a locally-known drug dealer and one of his cronies were accosting the women.
One of the suspected attackers – a 21-year-old Syrian national – was arrested, but was later released over lack of evidence, the German outlet Bild reported.
The other attacker remains in the wind.
Following the attack, Rudat slammed his attackers and condemned what he called Europe’s “immigration problem” in a video posted to Instagram.
In his interview with Reichelt, Rudat said the attack boiled down to simply a “problem of violence.”
“An act of violence perpetrated on somebody that could not defend themself. That’s the problem. That’s the real root of this.”
“The problem to me wasn’t anybody’s skin color. Wasn’t anybody’s race. It was the fact that a woman was being harassed and assaulted,” Rudat said. .
“My reaction was proportionate to exactly that. I would have protected any woman against any race, and color of man.”
Rudat was in Germany visiting his former home-stay family from his days doing a foreign exchange, and said the city seemed more dangerous since he’d last been.
“I’ve since then noticed from traveling back here a few times since then that this reality of safety in Dresden, from my perspective, has become a little bit more dangerous,” he told Reichelt.
Rudat models part time, and recently was certified as an EMT in his hometown outside Albany – and family members said it was no surprise to hear he stepped in to help someone in need.
“I would have been surprised if he hadn’t stepped in,” Rudat’s 22-year-old brother Logan previously told The Post.
“It’s part of his character. That’s just the way we were raised,” said Logan, who is also a first responder.
Photos from the attack showed the city tram spattered in dark blood, while Rudat’s face was left covered in heavy bandages.
The US embassy in Germany asked local law enforcement to prioritize catching Rudat’s attackers.
“We urge German authorities to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice and punish them to the fullest extent permitted by law. Safety is a collective responsibility—no one is safe until all are safe,” the embassy said in a statement.

Germany: Muslim preacher says it’s forbidden to work in supermarkets because they sell things prohibited in Islam
The next step will be to demand the removal of items that are prohibited in Islam from the supermarkets. Watch for it.
Islamist Preacher: ‘Supermarket Work Haram for Muslims'
translated from “Islamistischer Prediger: „Supermarkt-Arbeit für Muslime haram,“” Freilich, August 21, 2025 (thanks to Medforth):
The Islamist hate preacher Ahmad Armih, also known as “Abul Baraa,” has been reaching a large audience for years via platforms like TikTok and through public appearances. As a prominent figure in political Salafism in Germany, he regularly appears in mosques and spreads his interpretations of the Quran. Some of his statements are now also spreading outside the Muslim community – often because of their bizarre and extreme interpretations.
An interpretation of “Abul Baraa” is currently circulating on social media again, sparking discussion. It centers on the question of whether Muslims are allowed to work in supermarkets. The preacher, who is being monitored by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, takes a clear position: working in a supermarket is haram. He justifies this, among other things, with the activity of stocking shelves. The “problem”: The shelves are not only stocked with products that are halal, but also with those that are haram for Muslims.
Prohibition also applies to sale and storageHe cites alcohol, illegal meat, cigarettes, and gambling products as examples. According to his interpretation, it is not enough to simply not consume these things yourself. If Allah forbids something, then He also forbids its price. This means that one may not buy, sell, or store these items, nor may one assist anyone in buying them. According to “Abul Baraa,” working in a supermarket creates a direct shared responsibility. This leads to sharing the same share of sin as someone who consumes the aforementioned products.
