Ryanair Boeing jet evacuated after flames
shoot out of engine before takeoff
A Boeing jet with nearly 200 people onboard was evacuated in Italy early Thursday after flames were seen shooting from an engine.
Firefighters were called to Brindisi Airport as fumes were spotted outside the Ryanair plane just before takeoff, with photos showing flames around the left engine.
Ummm. It looks like the right engine to me! Does this sentence indicate that the airport does not have full-time firefighters?
All 184 passengers on the Boeing 737 were evacuated from the smoking plane safely, the airline said.
“Flight FR8826 from Brindisi to Turin was delayed this morning after cabin crew observed fumes on the outside of the aircraft,” Ryanair said in a statement.
“Passengers were disembarked without incident and returned to the terminal by bus.”
Brindisi Airport, in the southeastern region of Puglia, closed for some time after the incident but had reopened by late morning.
Ryanair said it planned to use a spare aircraft to fly affected passengers to Turin.
In a statement to Italian media, the airport said the closure was “necessary” for the safety of travelers.
“The problem, which occurred when the aircraft was already aligned at the head for take-off, required the evacuation of passengers via emergency slides,” the airport said.
“All operations were carried out with maximum safety for passengers and crew.”
The terrifying incident comes two days after the tires of a Ryanair plane exploded as the aircraft landed in Milan.
While Boeing seems to be the most popular incident-prone airplane, it is not the only one. This incident seems to involve an Airbus, although confirmation of that is hard to find.
Flames shoot out from Frontier Airlines jet
as it landed in Las Vegas
A plane burst into flames as it landed at a Las Vegas airport on Saturday, as the Frontier Airlines flight experienced a “hard landing”, viral video shows.
Billows of smoke and flames shot out from the area of the landing gear of Frontier Airlines flight 1326 as it landed at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to reports.
Frontier Airlines says their pilots smelled the smoke and immediately declared an emergency but it’s unclear if they knew the severity of the fire.
Smoke eaters were on the scene within seconds – dousing the plane with streams of foam and preventing the fire from spreading or causing further damage.
The advantage of having on-sight dedicated firefighters.
The airline reported that there were no injuries to the crew and passengers. Everyone was safely evacuated via airstairs to the gate.
They also said in that statement that the “aircraft landed safely”. Frontier says it is investigating what caused the fire.
