Russia > No plans to attack EU or NATO - Estonian Intelligence

Russia not planning to attack NATO – Estonian intelligence

The assessment comes as European members of the bloc have begun building up their militaries, citing what they claim is a threat from Moscow
Russia not planning to attack NATO – Estonian intelligence

Moscow poses no threat to Estonia in the coming years, the NATO member’s Foreign Intelligence Service (EFIS) has concluded in its annual report. The document was published as the US-led military bloc’s European members are conducting a massive military buildup, citing an alleged Russian threat.

Western officials have long used the threat of allegedly looming Russian aggression to justify military spending spikes such as Brussels’ €800 billion ($948 billion) ReArm Europe plan and NATO members’ pledge to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP. Moscow has rejected any claims it poses a threat to NATO as “nonsense.”

The EFIS sees no risk of a Russian attack and is “likely to reach a similar assessment next year,” it concluded in its annual threat assessment report published on Tuesday. “There is… no cause for panic,” concludes the report, which is almost entirely dedicated to assessing Russian policies and the state of its military.

“Russia has no intention of militarily attacking Estonia or any other NATO member state in the coming year,” it added.

The report contradicts the claims made by various European officials, including German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who repeatedly stated that NATO and Germany in particular should be ready for a Russian attack in the coming years.

The claims have been used to press Europe’s biggest economy to speed up its militarization drive and overhaul its armed forces as Chancellor Friedrich Merz vowed to transform its military into the “strongest conventional army in Europe.”

Moscow has repeatedly denied any plans to attack NATO and ridiculed Western politicians over claiming the opposite. Last week, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia has “no reason” to attack the EU or NATO unless attacked first.

In January, the minister also said that it is European NATO members that “are seriously preparing for war against the Russian Federation, and, in fact, are not even hiding it.”

Did the Trump-Putin meeting change the acceptible narrative on Russia?

Putin-Trump summit ‘erased’ Western narratives

– EU state’s leader

Direct dialogue with Moscow is crucial, Slovak PM Robert Fico has said, urging Brussels to take its cue from Washington
Putin-Trump summit ‘erased’ Western narratives – EU state’s leader

The summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, in Alaska has challenged the West’s entrenched confrontational narratives regarding relations with Moscow, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has claimed.

In defiance of the EU’s prevailing approach, Fico halted Bratislava’s military aide to Kiev in October 2023, and has been a vocal critic of the bloc’s sanctions against Moscow, as well as suggestions that Ukraine join NATO.

This is why EU's Deep Left is working to undermine Fico. See the previous post on this blog.

In a video posted on Facebook on Saturday, Fico stated that the sheer fact that Putin and Trump had met in person was the “most important thing” about the summit in Anchorage on Friday.

“Politicians need to meet and show mutual respect, to talk and try to understand each other,” the Slovak prime minister argued.

He further claimed that the high-profile meeting had “rejected the black-and-white view of the military conflict in Ukraine” and essentially “erased a single mandatory opinion on the war.”

“We must speak equally about security guarantees both for Ukraine and for the Russian Federation,” taking into account the “historical roots” of the conflict, Fico emphasized.

“The next few days will show whether the major players in the EU will support this process,” or continue to persist with their “failing” strategy aimed at weakening Russia.

In a post on X on Saturday, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, similarly hailed the Putin-Trump meeting for having made the “world a safer place than it was yesterday.”

Speaking to Fox News following the summit, the US president described the talks with his Russian counterpart as “warm,” bringing the sides “pretty close to the end” of the Ukraine conflict, with “one or two pretty significant items” left to iron out.

Putin characterized the talks with Trump as “constructive” and “useful.”

Russia > Trump on Russia; Orban blocks EU sanctions renewal on Russia

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban is blocking the extension of sanctions the European Union imposed on Russia over the Ukraine conflict, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday. The penalties, set to expire on January 31, require unanimous approval from the bloc’s 27 member states every six months.

No alternative plan currently exists to extend the sanctions if Hungary continues its protest, the publication has said, citing several unnamed diplomats.

Orban is a frequent critic of the EU’s sanctions regime. He reiterated on Tuesday his position that the fifteen rounds of restrictions imposed on Moscow are causing more harm to the bloc’s economies.

“It is time to throw sanctions out the window,” he said in an interview with Kossuth Radio last Friday, adding that the goal for the EU in 2025 should be to “establish a sanction-free relationship with Russia.”

The bloc’s ambassadors will hold multiple meetings this week to break the deadlock, Bloomberg said. If they fail, the issue will be escalated to its foreign ministers, according to the article. They are set to meet on January 27 in Brussels, just days before the sanctions are due to expire.

According to a Bloomberg report in December, Orban surprised his counterparts at an EU summit by stating he was not ready to support the extension of sanctions until US President Donald Trump assumed office.

The Financial Times previously reported that EU officials are concerned that Trump could overturn some of the US restrictions against Russia, “simply because they were taken by [Joe] Biden.”

That would be the attitude of the left-leaning EU officials. They can't imagine that some of the restrictions are just plain wrong. And but for Orban, they are too blind to see the restrictions are hurting the EU more than Russia. And, of course, everything contributes to the complete destruction of Ukraine and the deaths of tens of thousands of people, all for the sake of keeping the War Industry's inventories and American LNG moving.

However, Trump threatened new sanctions and high import tariffs on Wednesday, urging Russia to bring the Ukraine conflict to an end and strike a “deal.”

Orban has long been at odds with Brussels over its approach to Ukraine, opposing both aid to Kiev and sanctions on Moscow. Tensions grew further after he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of his Ukraine ‘peace mission’ in July 2024.

The EU declared the elimination of its reliance on Russian energy as a key priority after the Ukraine conflict escalated in February 2022. Sanctions and the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines later that year have led to a dramatic drop in Russia’s gas supplies to the bloc, resulting in a spike in energy prices and soaring inflation.

Orban previously said that European businesses and industries cannot focus on development goals and growth opportunities when there is a war going on, so everything needs to be done to end the Ukraine conflict.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto warned in October that Hungary could block EU sanctions on Russia if the union’s policies jeopardize its energy security. Budapest will only permit the imposition of restrictions if they retain their current exemptions on Russian energy supplies, he said.

Russia considers ban on childless lifestyle promotions

‘Godless people’: Russia mulls ban on

promoting childless lifestyles

A group of Russian MPs have put forward a bill that would ban any “propaganda” promoting childless lifestyles and the choice not to have children, including in the media, online advertising and in films. It comes as the country faces a demographic crisis exacerbated by the war in Ukraine.

The 'godless' comment came from a man named 'Abdullah'. An Arab name and possibly a Muslim. But his argument that childless couples might be godless may be valid. Parenthood is an important part of God's plan for His people, both to populate the Earth and to help the parents to grow in character. Growing in character is one of God's main ambitions for all of us. It helps to prepare us for Eternity. Refusing to have children can really be a very selfish lifestyle, and selfishness is the opposite of the Christian value of sacrificial love.

It's typical of an European journalist to think that Russia would want to encourage families to have more children because of the war in Ukraine, but Russia has been promoting larger families for years. Perhaps it is because they see what is happening in Europe where the indigenous populations are not birthing enough children to maintain their current numbers. They may also see that Muslim immigrants are groing at a significant rate both through immigration and through child birth rates much higher than the rest of Europe.

Russia will most likely protect their Russian majority just as China and Myanmar are protecting their populations from being overrun. We may not like how they are accomplishing it, but they are accomplishing it.
