Dutch Lies Over Putin’s ‘Aggression’ Expose NATO War Agenda

undefined

By finian cunningham

Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte was this week forced to bear a parliamentary vote of no confidence after his foreign minister finally came clean over a dangerous lie he has been telling for two years concerning Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Halbe Zijlstra quit in shame on Monday as the country’s foreign minister after admitting that a story he had peddled about personally hearing Putin plotting to create a “greater Russia” was false. That then forced premier Rutte to endure a “no confidence” motion from parliamentarians. In the end, Rutte survived the vote. If a majority had voted against his leadership, his coalition government may have collapsed.

But the deep damage done to the Dutch authorities will not be so easily repaired by Rutte’s survival as premier. What has been exposed this week is a senior member of government recklessly telling bare-faced lies in an attempt to slander Russia, poison international relations, and ratchet up already dangerous geopolitical tensions.

Zijlstra had claimed two years ago, in 2016, that he had personally witnessed Russian leader Vladimir Putin boasting about creating a “greater Russia” which, it is claimed, would incorporate Ukraine, the Baltic states, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

The newly resigned Dutch top diplomat claimed he heard Putin making the remarks while present with others at the Russian leader’s dacha (summer house) back in 2006.

This week, Zijlstra finally came clean and admitted before parliament that he hadn't in fact been present at the alleged gathering. He still maintains, however, that a confidante who was among the guests at Putin’s dacha informed him of the alleged “greater Russia” plan. But how can we now trust the word of a self-confessed liar?

Zijlstra’s boss, Prime Minister Rutte, also sought to downplay the debacle, claiming that his foreign minister had made “a big mistake” – but that “lying was not a deadly sin.”

Unless it starts a war - then it's pretty deadly!

Rutte is in for a rude awakening due to his complacent thinking. For indeed his government has been caught telling a very grave lie whose ramifications concern issues of war and peace in Europe.

Disgraced former minister Zijlstra stands accused of gross distortion of Russia’s foreign policy.

Since the US and European-backed illegal coup in Ukraine in early 2014, geopolitical reality has been turned upside-down. American and European corporate media have peddled relentless anti-Russia propaganda accusing Moscow of “aggression” and “expansionism” in Europe.

This torrent of Russophobia spewed out by Washington, the Pentagon, NATO, and the European Union has created the worst crisis in relations with Russia since the Cold War ended nearly three decades ago. There are real fears that the mounting crisis could escalate into an all-out war involving nuclear powers.

Zijlstra’s offense therefore is not merely a “mistaken” lie. His flagrant public distortion has contributed directly to the grave deterioration in geopolitical relations. One could even argue such reprehensible remarks amount to incitement of war, which is a cardinal crime under Nuremberg legal principles.

Lamentably, the mendacious senior Dutch politician is not an isolated case. Recall how former Polish foreign minister Radek Sikorski was caught out telling similar defamatory lies about Russia in 2014.

Sikorski, who has been an ardent supporter of NATO force build-up against Russia, reportedly claimed that he personally overheard Vladimir Putin in 2008 plotting to annex Ukrainian territory in a covert plot. Sikorski claimed that he heard Putin propositioning then Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk with a carve-up deal of Ukraine between Poland and Russia.

Sikorski was obliged to swiftly retract the claims published in US media, and awkwardly admitting that he was not present at the alleged meeting with Putin, and that his quoted remarks were meant as a “surreal joke.”

But, again, this is no joke or mistake. It is deadly serious disinformation by senior government officials, which is recklessly inciting war tensions with Russia. Sikorski is prominently associated with pro-NATO think-tanks like the hawkish American Enterprise Institute. He is married to Anne Applebaum who makes a living from writing anti-Russian screeds for news outlets like the Washington Post.

Zijlstra and Sikorski join the ranks of Russophobia regurgitated by other European foreign ministers like Britain’s Boris Johnson who issued the outlandish claim earlier this year that Russia is “targeting” British infrastructure; or French foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian who has impugned Russia for chemical weapons use in Syria – only for the French President Emmanuel Macron to admit this week that his government has actually no evidence about the use of such weapons in Syria.

Macron has made his own contribution to Russophobia by leveling unsubstantiated allegations that his presidential election campaign last year was “hacked” by Kremlin agents. He has since banned Russian news media from attending his press conferences.

All these senior government figures are irresponsibly fueling a climate of demonization against Russia which is compounding other unhinged claims made by politicians in Washington and the Baltic states. Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite, for example, recently claimed that Russian Iskander missiles based on Russian sovereign territory of Kaliningrad were targeting half of Europe, an alarmist claim which has been amplified by US secretary of defense James Mattis in the Pentagon’s recent Nuclear Posture Review.

The climate of hysteria – based on false, fevered official claims – is militating against normal political and diplomatic relations, which is, in turn, exacerbating the war in Ukraine and leading to wider war tensions with Russia across Europe.

A good question is why the ousted Dutch minister decided to own up this week to his lies about Putin.

The answer may be related to the bigger credibility crisis of the Dutch government and its NATO allies with regard to the whole Russophobia propaganda war.

Next month, the Netherlands is to hold a national referendum on extending powers of Dutch state intelligence to monitor public electronic communications. To convince the Dutch public to vote for more snooping powers, the authorities are relying on the hackneyed claims about Russian “meddling” and “interference”.

It seems significant that Dutch media reported last month that the country’s secret services allegedly “hacked into” Russian state hackers who were allegedly penetrating the American Democratic party’s databases during the US presidential elections back in 2015-2016. As usual, no evidence was provided to support the claims. We know from other credible reports that the Democratic party was quite possibly not hacked at all, but rather was leaked from inside by a Democrat staffer. So the Dutch intel story smearing Russia is highly dubious.

But it seems that the purported “good deed” performed by the Dutch intelligence services was pitched in the media as a way to ingratiate bona fides with the Netherlands public. The aim being to dispose the public toward voting in the referendum next month to give the Dutch state more intrusive powers over citizens to “protect” them from “nefarious Russians”.

Now, if the Dutch minister had held on to his office any longer there was a risk that his lies may have become public embarrassingly close to the March referendum, which could have resulted in the public rejecting the authorities’ desire for more snooping powers.

Perhaps then the decision was taken in high office for the minister to take the fall now in order to get rid sooner of an embarrassing story concerning his lies over Russia.

Whatever the explanation about the timing, the admission of Dutch government lying about Russian aggression in Europe is nevertheless an illuminating and appalling insight into how Russophobia and war is being fomented by the US and its European NATO allies.

Abominably, European government officials are willing to risk plunging millions of citizens into a war with Russia based on lies and warped, self-serving prejudices.

Peru's Fujimori Goes Back to Trial for Death Squad Killings

Corruption is Everywhere - Certainly in Peru
By Sommer Brokaw

UPI -- Former Peru President Alberto Fujimori, age 79, will go back to trial on charges related to death squad killings in 1992.

A court ruled Monday that Fujimori could be tried despite a medical pardon months ago.

At issue is the death squad killings of six farmers in Pativilca, a central town in Peru, in January of 1992. Fujimori is now charged with authorizing the kidnapping, torture and killings of the six farmers.

Fujimori had been serving a 25-year prison sentence since 2014 for human rights abuses before a medical pardon was granted in December. These abuses involved authorizing the six farmers' killings as part of a larger conflict with left-wing rebels. Nearly 70,000 people died in the conflict.

President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski granted the pardon in December, sparking two nights of protests in Lima. Kuczynski cited "low blood pressure and an irregular heartbeat" in his decision.

Seriously, I've had that all my life! Kuczynski, himself, has been accused of corruption being named in Brazil's Odebrecht scandal. He has refused to step down.

Another Peruvian ex-president Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006) has also been implicated in corruption. It's almost like a requirement for the job!

Amnesty International praised the court's latest ruling.

"The decision not to apply the grace granted by President Kuczynski to Alberto Fujimori constitutes an important advance in the fight against impunity for the crimes that occurred in Pativilca, and reinforces the obligation of the Peruvian state to guarantee the right of victims to truth, justice and reparation," the statement from Amnesty International reads.

Islamic State Claims Responsibility for Russia Church Shooting

Chechnya's Kadyrov in denial of reality

UPI -- The Islamic State terror group claimed responsibility Monday for an attack that killed five at a church in the Dagestan region of Russia.

Authorities said the gunman was Khalil Khalilov and that he was a member of an IS sleeper cell.

Five people were killed in the shooting Sunday as worshipers left a traditional pre-Lent celebration in the city of Kizlyar, capital of the Republic of Dagestan.

"An unidentified bearded man ran toward the church yelling 'Allah Akba,'" Father Pavel, dean of the church, told RBC.

"When we heard the shots, we quickly closed the doors so that he couldn't get inside. He had a gun and a knife."

Several others were injured in the attack. The gunman was shot dead by police.

RBC reported that Khalilov, 22, joined the Islamic State last year and intended to target the attack on the Christian holiday.

Head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, though, disputed the shooter's Islamic ties.

"One can say with certainty that the bandit and his patrons, in case he had any, do not have any direct or indirect connection to Islam," Kadyrov wrote on Telegram.

"The North Caucasus has always been a region of close cooperation and mutual understanding between Muslims and Christians. So today, it is our duty to deter assaults on our heritage that instigators and Russia's enemies may make."

Obviously, if shouting Allah Akba means he wasn't an Islamic adherent, I wonder what it does mean? Are there other religions that worship Allah?

Europe’s ‘Last Hope’ in Face of Mass Migration is Christianity – Hungarian PM

EU politicians endanger Europe by advocating migration, with Christianity being the only means of preventing a Muslim majority on the continent, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said.

“Our worst nightmares can come true,” Orban warned, referring to the influx of migrants from north Africa and the Middle East since 2015. “The West falls as it fails to see Europe being overrun.”

Orban told a huge crowd of supporters of his right-wing Fidesz party, who gathered in front of the Royal Castle in Budapest on Sunday, “Christianity is Europe’s last hope. Absurd as it may sound, the danger we face comes from the West, from politicians in Brussels, Berlin and Paris,” who advocate migration and “opened the way to the decline of Christian culture and the advance of Islam,” the PM added.

“The rate of migrants will grow at an accelerating pace in countries to the west of us… For example, the rate of native Germans has decreased in larger German cities. Migrants choose big cities to occupy first: In Bavaria, for instance, they spend more money on migration and integration (of migrants) than on the economy, environment and health combined,” he said.

The EU will find itself under “hideous pressure” if migrants from Muslim countries in Africa aren’t prevented from coming to the continent, Orban said. “If things don't change, there will be a Muslim majority in Europe,” he added.

The rally was dedicated to the launch of the ruling party’s campaign for the April 8 election, in which Fidesz are seen as strong favorites for a third consecutive landslide win. Orban’s popularity in Hungary is boosted by economic success and his firm anti-migrant stance. The country refused to accept refugees in accordance with EU quotas, going as far as building a double razor wire fence on its border to prevent illegal crossings, and was sued by the bloc.

Western European nations want Budapest to implement the same “policies that made them migrant-countries… They want us to accept migrants and have a mixed population,” the PM told the crowd and promised to “fight” the EU on the issue.

He said that Budapest will employ “ever-stronger legal tools” in the battle, recalling the so-called ‘Stop Soros Act,’ which is aimed at curbing migration and giving the state more control over foreign-funded NGOs that assist refugees.

Hungarian-born US philanthropist and multiculturalism advocate George Soros and Orban have been at odds for years. The PM has accused Soros of working to undermine European values, demographics and identity by flooding the continent with millions of Muslim asylum seekers. He also said that the American financier plans to interfere in April’s Hungarian election by spreading propaganda via his network of NGOs.

“Soros has antagonized not only us but also England, President Trump and Israel too… everywhere he wants to get migration accepted. It won’t work. We are not alone and we will fight together... and we will succeed,” Orban said.

The PM praised Hungary’s Visegrad Group partners — the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia — for sharing the anti-migrant stance, adding that “Croatia has come around, Austria has turned in a patriotic direction, and in Bavaria the CSU (Christian Social Union) has created a resistance… we don’t think the fight is hopeless — on the contrary, we are winning,” Orban said.

German Teen ‘ISIS Bride’ Sentenced to 6 Years in Jail in Iraq

An Iraqi court has sentenced German teenager Linda Wenzel, dubbed a “jihadi bride”, to six years in prison for her affiliation with Islamic State, German media has reported.

Wenzel was given a five-year sentence for being a member of IS and another year for crossing into Iraq illegally, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported on Sunday, citing judicial sources. Her hearing at the Palace of Justice in Baghdad was closed to the public due to her age, but representatives from the German embassy were present at the trial.

Originally from Pulsnitz, a town near Dresden in eastern Germany, Wenzel converted to Islam in 2016. After meeting extremists online at the age of 15, Wenzel ran away from home and made her way into Iraq through Turkey and Syria. There, she reportedly married a Chechen fighter, who was later killed.

After being captured in Mosul last year, Wenzel made headlines across the world when footage emerged that showed her terrified and in tears as she was dragged along by Iraqi troops. But the teenager was just one of many women from Europe and elsewhere who traveled to the Middle East to become jihadi brides.

Since her capture, Wenzel has expressed regret for her actions.

"I want to go home to my family," she told reporters. "I want to get out of the war, away from the weapons, the noise."

"I don't know how I came up with such a dumb idea. I've completely ruined my life."

R1 Million Reward for Info Leading to the Arrest of the Guptas and Zuma’s Son

Corruption is Everywhere - Certainly in South Africa
But Ramaphosa appears determined to clean it up - God bless him!

The reward pool for information leading to the arrest of the Gupta brothers and former president Jacob Zuma’s son Duduzane, has now been boosted to R1 million (about $86,000 USD).

This follows the announcement from the non-profit, Forensics for Justice this week that a R100,000 would be paid out for information leading the arrest of Ajay Gupta, who is considered a fugitive on the run by the Hawks.

The Hawks are South Africa's Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) which targets organized crime, economic crime, corruption, and other serious crime referred to it by the President or the South African Police Service

On Saturday, FFJ put out a further notice, adding a R100,000 reward each for Ajay Gupta’s alleged conspirators, namely his brothers Atul Gupta and Rajesh (Tony) Gupta, as well as their business associate Duduzane Zuma.

If all four are arrested on the same information, a further bonus of R100,000 will be paid out, FFJ said, bringing the total to R500,000.

Responding to the FFJ’s reward, CEO of Sygnia, vocal critic of the Guptas and state capture opponent, Magda Wierzycka said she would match the reward, rand for rand, effectively doubling the total reward pool to R1 million.

“South Africans, contribute your spy skills. We need these crooks in jail where they belong. As soon as possible,” she said.

Despite calls for information relating to the arrest of the other Gupta brothers, so far the Hawks have only confirmed that there is a manhunt on to arrest Ajay Gupta, the patriarch of the family.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi confirmed on Friday that Ajay was in the country and that the unit was negotiating with the security company protecting him.

However, he dismissed reports that Atul and Rajesh were also being sought.

Ajay Gupta and Duduzane Zuma are wanted in connection with the Free State dairy project that is currently at the centre of fraud, corruption and money laundering charges against Free State government and Gupta associates.

The Gupta family and their associates – including government the officials – allegedly received over R100 million in funds unlawfully through the project, which only got 1% of the reported R220 million budgeted to get the farming project going.

Eight accused, including former Oakbay chief executives Varun Gupta and Nazeem Howa, as well as current its CEO Ronica Ragavan, we arrested in a Hawks raid on Wednesday morning.

They appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Thursday, where they applied for and were granted bail for between R10,000 and R200,000.

Seems like pretty cheap bail for multi-millionaires. A good opportunity to run?

“We need as many people as possible to step up and help find Ajay Gupta. While it is extremely unlikely that any of the Gupta family will ever come back to South Africa voluntarily, we at Forensics for Justice believe that the one that’s here, must stay here and face the music. As a result of the reward, we have already started receiving information, which we have passed on to the Hawks,” FFJ said.

Anyone with information can contact the group at 0800 118 118 or tweet them @FfJZA or e-mail sarah.trent@forensicsforjustice.org.

And if he's arrested will you let him out on bail so he can join his family?

Teenagers who Smoke Cannabis Damage Their Brains for LIFE and May be More Likely to Develop Schizophrenia

Yet another study linking pot to brain-damage and schizophrenia in teens

By Ellie Zolfagharifard, Mail Online

Teenagers who regularly smoke cannabis suffer long lasting brain damage and are in much greater danger of developing schizophrenia.

American researchers say the drug is particularly dangerous for a group of people who have a genetic susceptibility to the mental health disorder - and it could be the trigger for it.

Asaf Keller, of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, said the results highlight the dangers of teenagers smoking cannabis during their formative years.

The study found that even short-term exposure to cannabis impaired brain activity,
with the damage continuing into adulthood

The study, published in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology, exposed young mice to the active ingredient in marijuana for 20 days.

It found that their brain activity was impaired, with the damage continuing into adulthood.

The past 20 years has seen major controversy about the long-term effects of marijuana, with experts divided over its long-term effects on teenagers.

Significantly higher incidence of psychiatric disorders

Previous research has shown that children who started using marijuana before the age of 16 are at greater risk of permanent brain damage, and have a significantly higher incidence of psychiatric disorders.

‘Adolescence is the critical period during which marijuana use can be damaging,’ said the study's lead author, Sylvina Mullins Raver, a PhD candidate at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

‘We wanted to identify the biological underpinnings and determine whether there is a real, permanent health risk to marijuana use.’

The scientists began by examining cortical oscillations in mice. Cortical oscillations are patterns of the activity of neurons in the brain and are believed to underlie the brain's various functions.

These oscillations are very abnormal in schizophrenia and in other psychiatric disorders.

VIDEO: Scientists explain how cannabis damages the teenage brain. 2:40

The scientists exposed young mice to very low doses of the active ingredient in marijuana for 20 days, and then allowed them to return to their siblings and develop normally.

‘In the adult mice exposed to marijuana ingredients in adolescence, we found that cortical oscillations were grossly altered, and they exhibited impaired cognitive abilities,’ said Raver.

We also found impaired cognitive behavioural performance in those mice. The striking finding is that, even though the mice were exposed to very low drug doses, and only for a brief period during adolescence, their brain abnormalities persisted into adulthood.’

'The striking finding is that, even though the mice were exposed
to very low drug doses, and only for a brief period during
adolescence, their brain abnormalities persisted into adulthood.’

According to the research team, there is a group of people who have a genetic susceptibility to
developing schizophrenia. Adding weed to the mix during adolescence could be the trigger that
causes it to develop, permanently impairing brain function and cognition

The scientists repeated the experiment, this time giving marijuana to adult mice that had never been exposed to the drug before.

Their cortical oscillations and ability to perform cognitive tasks remained normal, indicating that it was only drug exposure during the critical teenage years that impaired brain activity.

‘We found that the frontal cortex is much more affected by the drugs during adolescence,’ said Keller. ‘This is the area of the brain controls executive functions such as planning and impulse control. It is also the area most affected in schizophrenia.’

Keller now wants to know whether the effects can be reversed. ‘We are hoping we will learn more about schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders, which are complicated conditions,’ he said.

‘These cognitive symptoms are not affected by medication, but they might be affected by controlling these cortical oscillations.’

CANNABIS DESTROYS YOUR GET-UP-AND-GO

A separate study by Imperial College London last month revealed that long-term use of cannabis destroys dopamine, the feel-good chemical in the brain that inspires a spirit of get-up-and-go.

Previous research has suggested taking marijuana can lead to individuals becoming withdrawn, lethargic and apathetic.

The cannabis users in the study published in Biological Psychiatry had all experienced psychotic-like symptoms while smoking the drug such as strange sensations or having feelings of paranoia.

The researchers expected their dopamine production might be higher since this has been linked with psychosis - but instead found the opposite.

The cannabis users had their first experience with the drug between the ages of 12 and 18 and the researchers believe the drug could be the cause of the difference in dopamine levels.

'Cannabis is an illegal drug and there is mounting evidence the idea of it being a harmless herb is not true,’ said Dr Michael Bloomfield, of Imperial College London.

'When people stop taking cannabis it seems the brain can slowly go back to producing pretty normal levels of dopamine.

'Cannabis has effects on the brain and it’s important people can make an informed decision.'
