Canadian Convulsions > Turning the reprehensible into victims - Islamophobia czar's job

Canada’s ‘Islamophobia czar’ defends antisemitic

pro-Hamas rally at Mount Sinai hospital

Pro-Hamas protesters recently targeted Mount Sinai Hospital. The fallout was swift, and included not only a reaction against the invasion of a hospital, but against those who defended the demonstrators. One of those defenders was particularly notable: Amira Elghawaby, Canada’s Trudeau-appointed “Islamophobia czar,” whose 2023 appointment drew immediate backlash for justifiable reason.

Trudeau appointee, Canadian Press both defending anti-Semitism

by Brian Lilley, Toronto Sun, February 16, 2024:

The people who targeted a Jewish hospital in Toronto this week with calls for the death of Jews seem awfully concerned about how people see them.

They have been pushing back against those denouncing them with key help from Justin Trudeau’s appointed representative on Islamophobia and a national media organization.

Amira Elghawaby, appointed just over a year ago as Canada’s first special representative on combatting Islamophobia, posted to social media earlier this week that those calling out the Monday protests at Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital were going too far.

The Canadian Center for Diversity and Inclusion states more about Elghawaby’s role in the Trudeau government:

As Canada’s Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia, Ms. Elghawaby serves as a champion, advisor, expert, and representative to support and enhance the federal government’s efforts in the fight against Islamophobia, systemic racism, racial discrimination, and religious intolerance….

…. Elghawaby most recently led strategic communications and campaigns at the Canadian Race Relations Foundation.

The worst discrimination across the board is being felt by Jews since October 7, when Israel was savagely victimized, yet Elghawaby defended the Mount Sinai protests, saying: “Wrong is the rush to label protesters as anti-Semitic and/or terrorist sympathizers.”

Elghawaby has also served as Communications Director for the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), formerly CAIR-CAN and a CAIR offshoot. As is well known, CAIR was deemed an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorist funding trial in the history of America, the Holy Land Foundation trial. CAIR was specifically listed under the category of “entities who are and/or were members of the US Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee and/or its organizations.”

The NCCM recently cancelled a meeting with Trudeau, claiming that he was not being supportive enough of Hamas over Israel, and not doing enough to prevent “hate crimes” against Muslims. The NCCM’s Chief Executive stated:

We’re interested in the government taking real tangible action to reduce Islamophobia in this country (and) taking real tangible action to stop the hostilities in the Middle East.

It wasn’t enough for the NCCM that Canada voted in favor of the UN resolution demanding an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” in Gaza. The NCCM “is also worried about Ottawa’s decision to suspend funding for the UNRWA,” an organization that’s “rotten to the core” due to its infiltration by jihadists. It was recently revealed that 30 UNRWA employees participated in the October 7 attack.

While Elghawaby states her mission to include fighting “systemic racism, racial discrimination, and religious intolerance,” she isn’t doing much as a government appointee to fight antisemtism; rather, she is doing the opposite. She supported the Mount Sinai pro-Hamas protests, even while attempting to soften her position. As pointed out by the Toronto Sun:

Elghawaby said that “hospitals and medical workers must always be safe to provide important services,” but then went on to defend the protests.

“Yet also troubling and wrong is the rush to label protesters as anti-Semitic and/or terrorist sympathizers,” Elghawaby said.

No, not really, because that is what these protesters have shown themselves to be since Hamas launched the war on Oct. 7. Within hours of the brutal terrorist attacks taking place, one of the organizing groups of Monday’s protests, the Palestinian Youth Movement, was organizing a rally to celebrate the attacks.

Dr David Jacobs, President of the Ontario Association of Radiologists, tweeted:

According to the Mount Sinai Hospital website:

Mount Sinai Hospital, part of Sinai Health, is an academic health science centre, affiliated with the University of Toronto.

The renowned hospital has an impressive history with Jewish origins, and that was enough to activate the pro-Hamas crowd. Imagine a hospital, of all places, being flooded by intimidating Hamas supporters calling for the death of Jews.

Is Amira Elghawaby truly concerned about antisemitism, Israel’s fight for its existence amid rising Jew-hatred and the fact that Hamas gets a pass for its use of human shields? It also recently emerged that the UN refuses to evacuate Palestinians to safe zones, despite all efforts and pleas by Israel to bring Gazan civilians to safety.
