His motive was Islamic jihad, which the French authorities, like authorities all over the West, pretend doesn’t exist. So they retreat into agnosticism or claim that jihadis are mentally ill, which is probably what’s coming next for this fellow.

A man of around 40 was shot and wounded this afternoon by gendarmes in the area of the Mornas area, on the highway A7. He had been wanted since yesterday evening by the military following a bus accident, which occurred on this same highway and at the end of which 14 passengers were slightly injured.
According to our information, this man was in the BlaBlaCar that was going to Lyon. As the bus arrived at Mornas, the individual tried to take the wheel from the driver, causing the accident. The coach then left the road, but fortunately remained upright on its wheels. Significant rescue resources were committed to take care of the injured while the gendarmes of the departmental road safety squadron (EDSR) of Vaucluse tracked down the passenger who had caused the accident and had just fled. A search for the person was conducted in the area throughout the night.
This Sunday, it was finally the start of a brush fire near a house, located not far from the Mornas area, which forced the gendarmes to intervene with the firefighters. Arriving on the spot, two soldiers saw a man emerge from the bushes. Armed with an iron bar and a knife, the individual reportedly ran at the gendarmes, shouting “Allahu Akbar!” Despite warnings, the individual did not drop his weapons, forcing the soldiers to fire in his direction. Hit in the abdomen, this man was taken care of by the firefighters and was hospitalized in Avignon in serious condition.
At this point, his motives are not yet known. The Carpentras Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation which it has entrusted to the soldiers of the Orange research brigade.
Seriously! They don't know his motives? He yelled "Allahu Akbar". That means he's a jihadist, a radicalized Muslim, and, by nature, is inherently insane.

Local Muslim leaders said they didn’t think a Muslim did this. And indeed, it could have been done by anyone, including opponents of jihad violence and Sharia oppression who meant it as a kind of warning. But in this case, the perpetrator turned out to be a Muslim after all.

“Long live Islam and peace.” It is these inscriptions tagged on the wall of a church in the town of Lieusaint (Seine-et-Marne) that the parishioners had the unpleasant surprise to discover, Thursday, May 4. In addition, a Star of David, inscriptions in Arabic and lines were made in black paint on the enclosure of the building, reports the weekly La République de Seine-et-Marne.
The mayor of the town, Michel Bisson, deplored an “inadmissible, unacceptable and reprehensible gesture” on the social network Facebook. “Like all Lieusaint residents, I am revolted by such acts, with a thought for our Catholic friends,” he added. The municipality told CNews that it had filed a complaint, and immediately set about cleaning the wall of the building. An investigation has been opened.
In addition, Michel Bisson announced that he would closely follow “the progress of the investigation,” which may ultimately identify the perpetrators of this act. In this sense, the town hall stressed that “the video protection system, piloted by [the] urban supervision center, will be valuable for the police in the context of their investigation.”
The Muslim Association which manages the Great Mosque of Lieusaint “strongly” condemned this act of vandalism, and expressed its “complete indignation,” says the mayor of the town. However, the Great Mosque of Lieusaint told CNews that it was skeptical that these inscriptions could have been made by Muslims.
It's amazing how quickly Muslims can jump from perpetrator to victim.
This is not the first time that this church has been vandalized, the parish priest emphasizes. Several statues had been degraded and overthrown, but the police had not been able to arrest the perpetrators of this act.

Within 72 hours, the police were able to establish a link between the various offences and arrest the alleged perpetrator. He, a 45-year-old resident of Moisenay, admitted to the offences. A psychiatric expert concluded that his judgement was impaired.
“In police custody, the man told us that we would have done well to stop him as he was planning to set fire to the forest of Fontainebleau…”. Jérôme Georges, central commissioner of the Melun Val de Seine (Seine-et-Marne) conurbation, was relieved.
It all starts with slogans written in Arabic (“Allah is great”; “No deity but Allah,” according to a specialist with spelling mistakes) painted in black paint on the back of the church in Lieusaint. The damages were committed during the night of Wednesday May 3 to Thursday May 4.
