Ramadan in Syria: Islamic State kills three more truffle hunters

The Islamic State (IS) reportedly killed three truffle hunters on Tuesday, a war watchdog said. The group continues to carry out attacks in Syria, despite no longer holding any territory.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that “likely” Islamic State gunmen attacked a group of young men searching for truffles north of Palmyra in central Syria. Three of the men were killed before the assailants fled, according to the observatory.
Why it matters: Truffles are a type of mushroom. Many Syrians pick truffles with the aim of selling them. The Syrian economy has been struggling for years due to the effects of the war, government mismanagement and US sanctions. The Syrian news outlet Enab Baladi called truffles an “irreplaceable” income opportunity in eastern Syria due to the rising cost of living in a February report.
Hunting for truffles carries numerous security risks, and the Islamic State has killed civilians while they were searching for the mushrooms a few times recently. On Feb. 17, Syrian state media reported that IS killed 53 people hunting for truffles east of Homs in central Syria. On March 23, IS killed 15 truffle hunters in a knife attack outside of Hama, also in central Syria, according to the observatory.
Truffle hunters also run the risk of stepping on unexploded mines….
Why do they kill truffle hunters? Is it because they want them for themselves? Is it just for target practice? Is it because they have a need to just kill people?

In a Friday, April 7, 2023 sermon in Rafah, Gaza, Hamas official Sheikh Dr. Hamad Al-Regeb prayed for Allah to bring annihilation and paralysis upon the Jews and to “enable” the Muslims to “get to” the Jews’ necks. He said that the Jews are “filthy animals” and “brothers of apes and pigs” who spread corruption, injustice, and evil at the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Dr. Al-Regeb said that the Jews will only be defeated with weapons and by inflicting terror – and not by praying – and he declared that all Muslims and Arabs should prepare for the day when they will heed a call to arms. Praising martyrdom, he added: “What could be more beautiful than ending your life by dying for the sake of Allah?” He also prayed for Allah to kill all atheists and polytheists and to not leave “a single one of them” alive. The video of the sermon was posted to the YouTube account of the Al-Abrar Mosque.
Sheikh Dr. Hamad Al-Regeb: “We see the hordes of foreigners, the brothers of apes and pigs, spread corruption, injustice, and evil [at the Al-Aqsa Mosque].
The Al-Aqsa Mosque was built on the grounds of Israel's ancient temples, destroyed by the Romans after Jesus. So is holy ground to the Jews more so than to Muslims.

“According to the tradition, [the Jews] killed 70 of the Israelite prophets in one hour during the daytime, and they did not even close their markets.

“[Allah] transformed them into filthy, ugly animals like apes and pigs because of the injustice and evil they had brought about.

“How can we defeat the enemy? Unfortunately, some beloved preachers in different corners of the Earth, do not understand what defeating the enemy means for us.

“Can we defeat the enemy with spiritual and religious education? Can we defeat the enemy only by praying in the mosques?
Well, yes, if Allah was real and as powerful as you seem to think he is. Ephesians 6:12 - For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

And it's not Napoleon or the British who are attacking Acre, it is the Muslims. They will do no better than Napoleon or the British.

How often do you read of people being stabbed in their necks? It's all too frequent and it is always Muslims who do the stabbing.

Even if that happened, there would be no peace in the world for the Muslims would turn on each other. Devout Muslims seem to have an inherent necessity to murder somebody.

On Thursday, March 30, a worshipper was attacked while opening the doors of the mosque of Échirolles, near Grenoble. Armed with a knife, the aggressor said he “knew Le Pen.” Put to flight by other faithful, he is still wanted by the police.
The attack occurred very early, Thursday March 30, in front of the Échirolles mosque. Shortly before 6 a.m., while he was opening the doors of the place of prayer, a worshipper was violently beaten by an individual. He was slightly injured in the forehead following a punch.
The attacker allegedly claimed he “knew Le Pen” and pulled out a knife. Alerted by the cries, two other faithful intervened and put the attacker to flight.
Two days later, this Saturday April 1, the public prosecutor of Grenoble confirmed that the police officers in charge of the investigation were still looking for the defendant. “Probably unbalanced” and described by the victim as “an individual of North African origin, 30-35 years old and about 1m80,” specifies the prosecution. DNA investigations are also underway.
In the process, the mayor of Échirolles issued a press release to “strongly condemn this intolerable act.” “If the Islamophobic nature of this act is proven, it would be added to the too long list of attacks that affect Muslim citizens in France, especially in places of worship dedicated to them,” writes Renzo Sulli.
While the attack occurred only a few days after the start of Ramadan, the city councilor added “to show his support for the victim, his relatives, as well as the entire Muslim community of Échirolles.”
So, because it wasn't an act of Islamophobia, it's not so bad? It was an act of Islamic madness like nearly all other violent acts committed by Muslims. Violent Islam and madness are inseparable.

A 70-year-old grandmother has reportedly had her kneecaps broken by Iranian prison officials in Tehran’s notorious Evin jail.
Human rights campaigner Mahvash Sabet Shahriari was said to have been under interrogation by officials when she was inflicted with the barbaric punishment.
She had been serving a 10-year prison sentence in Evin jail for participating in anti-government protests.
The news of the attack emerged from independent Iranian media which said the activist’s knees had been broken by an interrogator during questioning.
Evin jail has a brutal reputation for its inhumane living conditions and merciless treatment of its detainees, with prisoners frequently subject to beatings and torture.
Frud Sabet, son of Shahriari, said he was yet to hear of his mother’s condition since her initial trial.
He told RFERL Radio Farda: ‘The family is very worried about her health. We don’t know where she is, and we don’t know if she’s alive.’
Shahriari, a poet, was seized last summer as part of the Iranian regime’s repression of the Baha’i community that saw several community leaders detained.
The Bahaʼi faith is a religion that counts up to eight million members all over the world. It originated in Persia (Iran) in 1844.
