And we can add ‘self-love’ to that list of characteristics that need to be removed. Self-love is not mentioned at all in “My Utmost for His Highest’. It simply never occurred to Chambers more than 100 years ago that such an attitude could exist. Either that or he called it by another name – pride! 

Self-love is the very opposite of Christian love. Christian love is about giving; self-love is about getting.
